All the males in my house wander around in their pants.

I am getting tired of it, particularly now that my sons have hit puberty, so I have mandated that all human inhabitants must wear a minimum of shorts. We have no daughters so I am the lone voice here. The boys are complaining bitterly. Husband is neutral but says he understands my feelings.

Your husband started this behaviour and so should be modelling respectful (and self respectful) behaviour to his sons.
Those of you who think this male entitlement is acceptable... when they have a flat share will it be OK to parade around, like this in front of other women?
Too hot is a ridiculous excuse.

BiMale50 · 23/03/2025 15:20

My step dad, step brother, and I would only wear or FTL basic white briefs in and around the house after or showers. And all day during the summer

Maddy70 · 06/10/2024 23:09

All my family walk around in their undergarments male and female. What is it about the human body you are worried about?

Also, I empathise as the only woman in my house. I once had a breakdown over wee on the loo seat.

In the middle of the night when you haven't noticed before you sit down.

LizTruss · 06/10/2024 22:14

I remember ony too well.
It's one of the reasons I was quite relieved to no longer have to spend time in the House. 🤮

DiscoBeat · 06/10/2024 22:13

That's very odd! DH and 4 boys between us and none of them have ever worn pants in the house (underclothes excepted!) Is the house too hot? I would prompt them to put shorts on.

ThinWomansBrain · 06/10/2024 22:10

stop wasting money on having the heating so high

Wander around in yours to make a point.

Fordian · 06/10/2024 22:05

Skipped from 7ish yesterday evening to this evening to now to ask those if you'd wear a bikini to a wedding? Your pants and bra to Asda? Your PJs to work?

But somehow your house, where different people, women, girls, men boys, being related, should somehow be okay with near nudity in the home? Despite people being uncomfortable with it?

Floogal · 06/10/2024 17:36

Is it briefs or boxers? Because boxers look like shorts whereas briefs are more revealing. Sometimes I just chill out in my knickers and t shirt at home. DH wears briefs and t-shirt around the house if its hot

The beach is not just any 'public place' though is it. You can't sit in a cafe (except a beach one maybe) in a bikini so why should OP have to put up with near nudity in her home if she doesn't want to. They should be decent in front of the opposite sex as it's basic respect.

Words like "decent" and "basic respect" are quite subjective in this context.
There is nothing inherently disrespectful in having one layer of clothing on. There is nothing inherently disrespectful in nudity either (thought a case could be made for a hygiene)
It is just a clash of preferences.

Yes, in this case the older son shows he isn't happy to give others the same liberty he is taking, so that's a good point to address, but in general there is no good and bad here, just some people perceive/wish for a social norm which isn't really there

Gwenhwyfar · 06/10/2024 13:16

FawnFrenchieMum · 05/10/2024 19:50

No she and them are in their private home, where I think you should be able to wear the same amount of clothing that acceptable in a public place.

Correct
It's the home of children who happen to have penises
Why does that matter?
It's their home too, girls arent more important than boys

OP doesn't want to endure penis all day through gaping boxers. It's not unreasonable.

bittertwisted · 06/10/2024 12:13

Dotto · 05/10/2024 22:13

Ewwww. Yanbu. It's your home, not mighty penis land. Get them told.

Mine wear jama shorts. Similar but different.

Caerulea · 05/10/2024 23:21

What a peculiar thread. My brow has furrowed right out of the back of my head in confusion as I've read through it 😂.

Mum of 3 boys, 2 still at home & aged 15 & 17. They are constantly in a state of undress, especially the 17yo who dresses really nicely for college but the minute he gets in it's all off & he's in either his pants (fitted boxers) or a onesie & it's never crossed my mind to be bothered. I will walk around, when getting ready, in my pants & bra & sometimes not even a bra! THE HORROR!

Until this thread it hadn't even crossed my mind to think it odd (& I still don't!). DH is more a stickler for Being Dressed (himself, not anyone else) & that's fine too.

I guess I'm just not sure what there is to be uncomfortable about when it's your own kids?

WiseBlankie · 05/10/2024 23:21

Never been to a nudist camp and don't see the appeal, but we regularly wander around in just underwear in our house, especially on hot days. No bra for me either. I hate wearing bras. Also am very comfortable with communal showers, mixed-gender naked saunas, which I know lots of people find shocking. I've just always been comfortable in my own skin and really don't care what other people look like, as long as they're not smelly or unhygienic.

So for me this would be a non-issue, unless unclean bits start hanging out and coming into contact with the upholstery.

LikeWeUsedToBe · 05/10/2024 23:18

This post reminded me of a girl when I was at school who made some comment that let peers know everyone goes naked in her house. She was completely unaware this wasn't normal and got mercifully picked on for it for a while.

My ex used to walk around in t shirt and no boxers/pant. He said it was too restrictive on his testicle. I'd find ginger pubes on the dark sofa. Fucking disgusting

I don't think being in just pants in your own home is a problem in itself. If someone is uncomfortable about it then it becomes a problem and I think being uncomfortable with nakedness trumps being uncomfortable with clothes when deciding how to resolve it

blahblahblahhhhh · 05/10/2024 23:01

I couldn’t get upset about this, maybe I’ll feel differently when they’re older? DS 5 is permanently naked once in the door. DS 13 (trans FtM) walks around in boxers and tshirt all the time.

DH is a freak of nature and would sleep in pjs + dressing gown + duvet once September rolls around so he’s never undressed unless it’s proper boiling.

I guess even then he’d usually be in shorts not boxers but he’s an adult? Wouldn’t ever be bothered about the kids being in whatever when they’re at home just the 4 of us.

Echobelly · 05/10/2024 22:57

DH removes his trousers as soon as he's home if we have no guests and DS sometimes does the same, which I just find quite funny.

I can imagine it might feel a bit icky if you're the lone woman in the household though.

We will have to start having dessert so I can withhold it 😂

Usually with mine the only time I see it is when he wants additional food and has to make it himself, the rest of the time he's sat in a chair wrapped up in a blanket like a bloody burretto 🤣

ThePoshUns · 05/10/2024 22:54

bittertwisted · 05/10/2024 17:03

Why is it grim?
Boys who you gave birth to and there is an issue with them being in pants?
Really couldn't care less, mother of 3 boys

I agree, I have two adult sons , they both wander around in their pants, I really can't see the problem here.

I’m not totally sure where I sit on this except for hands down the pants and meals. Hands down the pants I’d send them to wash their hands, and meals no one would be fed if they weren’t dressed. If I had to mention it several times I’d have a special dessert for everyone who I didn’t have to mention it to and those who weren’t respecting my rules in my house for a meal I’d cooked would miss out.
