Taking an object to an interview

Okay, where do I start
I've just had a job interview confirmed and they've asked me to bring an object that best reflects my personality 😂
Never heard of this before
What does one bring? 🤔
Not strictly an AIBU but can I have some ideas please!

If this is The Entertainer, I know someone who took bubbles and got the job x

BaronessBomburst · 05/10/2024 11:20

@Parry5timesbeforedeath I'm in stitches at this. 😂

Bananagirl23 · 05/10/2024 11:18

Your phone? 😂 then you could scroll through your photo stream to pass the time 😂

TherapistInATabard · 05/10/2024 11:18

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 05/10/2024 09:37

Given your self description I'd take in a toy Labrador 😂

Haha exactly what I thought!

One of my old workplaces was really fond of teambuilding crap. at one of our team away days we had to sit in a circle and explain in a sentence what made us passionate about the workplace and what made us apply for that organisation. I panicked and just blurted out the truth “because i sent out 36 CVs and you were the only people who interviewed me”.

It did not go down well with my line manager but a few of my colleagues said quietly to me afterwards that they agreed and it made a change from the guff about being devoted to our service users that was expected.

I'm a friendly person, get on well with everyone, reliable, will gladly be over worked 😂

Take a labrador?? 😁

RaraRachael · 05/10/2024 11:09

I'd cancel the interview - can't be doing with that kind of shite.

An old friend of mine, in an interview, handed her a pen and told her to sell it to them. They were trying to give subtle hints about the pen lid having holes and she panicked and said "if a child accidentally swallowed it, they could whistle for help" 🤣🤣🤣 she was mortified.

That's lived rent free in my head for over 20 years.

That is hilarious!!

BunnyLake · 05/10/2024 11:05

You could take a bill and say needing to pay your bills is the biggest incentive anyone can have to get out of bed and go to work.

Oh god. This nonsense would put me right off. Interviewers once asked what star sign I was 🙄. I’d take a cup of tea OP. The cup would have “Idiots” written on the bottom so they’d get a flash of it whenever I took a drink

What on earth did you say when asked what your star sign was? I really think I would have got up and walked out. It would be best for all concerned. I'd never fit in at a place where they thought that was an appropriate interview question.

A labrador 😀

Rubyupbeat · 05/10/2024 11:00

I would take in my 2 large dogs and my sewing machine, they reflect me quite well!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/10/2024 10:59

It's only a seasonal position ... In a retail shop

Then they must be quite insane, and I'd take your valuable experience somewhere else Confused

Jc2001 · 05/10/2024 10:59

I had this. We used to own chickens so I took and egg box along. It's just a device to get you talking really. You can make light hearted and can be a good icebreaker. It was actually good fun

In a retail shop is all I'll say incase they find my thread 😬😂

God, who do they think they are Google or something. 🙄

No idea really but I think I’d take something humorous (or sarcastic depending on how much I need the job).

AutumnalCosiness · 05/10/2024 10:56

Baubles? 🎄🎄🎄

Demonhunter · 05/10/2024 10:56

Oh God I cannot stand this kind of crap.

If it is retail be prepared for them to ask you to sell the item to them.

ChampagneLassie · 05/10/2024 10:55

ok I think this is just intended to be a bit light hearted and check you have social skills. As it’s retail and seasonal why not your favourite Christmas related thing with a story. Ie a family decoration/pudding bowl/ anything you’ve got a story for.

Jeeze!

timenowplease · 05/10/2024 10:49

Bring an LED light bulb. It's superbright, eco friendly, very economical and lasts for 20,000 hours before needing to be replaced.

GoldenLegend · 05/10/2024 10:48

I’d take a piece of gold jewellery, tell them I had expensive tastes and ask if we could discuss the salary.

I mean they’re obvious twats so you may as well.

😂😂

Oh my god is it the 80s?? I’m cringing soooo bad at this.

A border collie ?? 😂

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 05/10/2024 10:46

I wouldn't be going to the interview! Fuck that shit.

Gwenhwyfar · 05/10/2024 10:46

I couldn't be doing with this bs. Unless the Job Centre know about the interview and you need it for your benefits, I'd cancel.
