To be envious of these female Doctors

Dd has been ill recently so we’ve had to go to a range of different private specialists.
Ive noticed the majority were female-amazing, but also that they were young, good looking, trendy etc. The child psychiatrist was wearing smart clothes-wide legged trousers etc, but with really nice Gazelles and she walked out to my dream car. The female gp we have is beautiful, so kind and warm and was saying her husband was a psychiatrist etc.
I’m not one to be jealous or superficial normally, but I think them also obviously being very smart and the list of their educational achievements makes me more envious. I wish I’d studied harder at school, instead of having too much fun with my friends, in a way.
I don’t know, I felt a bit rubbish as a 40 something mum with my Primark bag, fairly old Quasqui and mediocre teaching career.

Currently have a 10y old KA after partner forced me to get rid of my 2003 plate fiesta a couple of yrs ago when doing a lot of motorway miles to work lol

Repeated myself there oops!

I just imagine they also likely came from good backgrounds, with fairly wealthy parents engaged in intellectual pursuits (not always of course!) but how cool to meet someone on a night out and they ask what you do and you’re a child psychiatrist or surgeon and so on

Lol I'm a female Dr. Live in jeans and t-shirt (well scrubs at work as I'm an anaesthetist). Noone else in my family has even been to uni , parents aren't wealthy. Rarely get nights out as we work 60-75h weeks and commute 3h a day so are basically exhausted pigeons most of the time. Def not glamorous haha

Stanleycupsarecool · 04/10/2024 19:34

I remember being about 12 or 13 and my dad took me to a local an and e on the weekend for a mouth infection I had after having a tooth removed.

I remember leaving with the antibiotics and saying to my dad I thought we would have seen a doctor. My dad says we did, the man with short hair. I was astounded he was wearing a very faded Subaru sweatshirt and jeans rather than a shirt and tie with a white coat 😂.

I am sure after another 20 years in the profession and a couple of kids they’ll start to looks a bit more frazzled.

@SardinesOnGingerbread Have you got a mediocre career too, say as a Firefighter, a Police Officer, a Scientist, or a Surgeon, or something? 🙄

Doctor (Neuropsychologist). You have a good night there.

Ireolu · 04/10/2024 19:09

I'm a medic and most of my friends are doctors. My most stylish friend is an interventional neuro-radiologist. She does her lists in 4 inch heels. Typically louboutins. You would be very impressed with her OP ;)

My daughter is a third year med student - I wish she came from a wealthy background, and didn't have such a train wreck of a mother, who is currently unable to hold down a minimum wage job, due to physical and mental health issues!

Wasityoubecayse · 04/10/2024 19:04

Man op i dont know why your post makes me like you so much. I love the responces i feel like women are really beginning to move forward. I had hoped to be a teacher one day but untill im calmer not a good fit. Teachers are highly respected. If you want some fun and to shake off the funk..........

Any particular reason for the needlessly bitchy reply to a perfectly nice comment?

ChampagneLassie · 04/10/2024 17:59

it’s lovely that you think this but it’s a really hard slog and massively undervalued in Uk both socially and monetarily. The facts so many do NhS and private. There are many many Drs really struggling and I’d imagine the glossy ones you encountered are probably supported by well earning spouses or inherited wealth as you’re not getting rich being a Dr in UK!

Give yourself a pat on the back.

And teachers rule! You lot are made of steel and stardust x

SardinesOnGingerbread · 04/10/2024 17:46

I came from a working class background and drive a 10 year old cactus. It's pretty grubby too! I dress nicely because clothes and style are interesting to me and I enjoy it, but my hair is pretty limp spirited (and I can't be bovvered) and I've never learned to do make up. I've also got a love of bread, so I'm pretty broad in the arse. I love my job, but there must be benefits to not seeing or hearing some of the things that come my way at work. I also see some colleagues and get style/car/classiness envy, particularly the generationally wealthy private school group, but on the whole everyone is nice irrespective of how glossy they look, and lots of them do not have their personal shit together. Not sure if that helps at all.

BobbyBiscuits · 04/10/2024 17:43

A teacher and a doctor are both some of the most valuable careers anyone could choose to do for the benefit of society.
You are equal to them in every way. If they are working privately then of couse they can afford an expensive car. But being a teacher, a good one is amazing and so important.
You can't just suddenly decide to start studying medicine now. You're already highly skilled in a massively valuable career. So be proud of yourself.

Blanketyre · 04/10/2024 17:37

Get your hair done and put Gazelles on your Xmas list!

SpikeyHousePlant · 04/10/2024 17:36

I think a lot of parents would be envious you’re able to take your child to a private healthcare facility.

littlestrawberryhat · 04/10/2024 17:34

They aren’t all that intelligent, just good at memorising information, from my extensive experience with the profession

SabreIsMyFave · 04/10/2024 17:31

A mediocre teaching career? Hmm

Blessedbunny · 04/10/2024 17:26

I’m always impressed by teachers. I think they are fantastic. The job can be tough, and they are looking after the education of our future generations. They have such a big impact.

Thanks from me to all teachers - and I think you should be paid more too.

AndromacheAstyanax · 04/10/2024 17:22

Teaching is not a mediocre career!

CouldNotStayAway · 04/10/2024 17:10

Richard1985 · 04/10/2024 16:06

Nothing mediocre about a teaching career! That takes amazing skills that most people don't have

You're doing an important job - setting the Doctors of tomorrow on the path to success

This^

Teaching is truly incredible- Be proud! You are the foundation for tomorrow's doctors, vets, educators, engineers, lawyers and countless others.

Lemonadeand · 04/10/2024 16:55

Lol yes there’s a super human doctor in our village who looks like a super model, has three kids, works almost full time but somehow also manages to grow her own vegetables and press her own apple juice, not to mention the triathlons. Her husband looks like a A-List celebrity as well. They’re like a different species.

Cantbelievethatimafoolagain · 04/10/2024 16:34

They probably have less stress being a private doctor.

lot of consultants etc don't do very much.

Meadowfinch · 04/10/2024 16:33

There is nothing mediocre about a teaching career.

I'm sure you too would look great if you didn't have to dress in clothes that can all go in a hot wash!

And think, at least you don't have 6 figure student debt
