Breastfeeding jewellery

I don't really understand why you would want it, it's a bodily fluid. The idea of sending my bodily fluid through the post to some stranger to make it into a ring makes me feel a bit sick. I probably an being unreasonable but it can't just be me

There's a woman on TikTok who makes semen jewellery Envy

Zanatdy · 12/10/2024 08:23

I have a ring made from some of my dad’s ashes. It’s not ‘grim’. Some people don’t like the idea, fair enough but i’m sure those who have lost a much loved relative and this is their only connection now don’t find it grim at all. Each to their own, why do people feel the need to slate something they personally don’t like the sound of. Clearly many do or it wouldn’t be a thing

I’m so ordering this when I stop breastfeeding, I think it’s beautiful even if you all think it’s creepy!

It’s beautiful!

SandandSky · 12/10/2024 08:20

Breast milk is hardly is the same category as Blood, Vomit, sweat or urine though is it? None of which you would feed your baby.

I can’t believe so many people can be so cynical about something that doesn’t really affect them.

Mama2many73 · 12/10/2024 08:12

I dint even know breast feeding jewellery was 'a thing' and I suppose each to their own it's hardly affecting anyone else, and as people say it's discrete so noone would know except the wearer.
Ashes jewellery I can acknowledge but it's not something I'd chose but thats because I'm hopeless and often lose stuff and I'd be so upset if I lost that piece of jewellery.

LynetteScavo · 12/10/2024 07:39

I think ashes or a lock of baby hair are different from my own body fluids. But that's just my opinion.

HermoniePotter · 11/10/2024 22:45

If wearing jewellery made with a little bit of someone’s ashes gives comfort there’s no harm being done to anyone else imo, likewise ashes tattoos. My DH has a tattoo with some of his dads and mums ashes mixed with ink as do his siblings. It’s none of anyone else’s business. I’ve never seen jewellery made from breast milk but if that’s what someone likes to wear then crack on is my view.

Cheeseandcrackers40 · 11/10/2024 22:42

What a mean spirited post.

LuluBlakey1 · 11/10/2024 22:34

It's more rip-off tat that will end up as landfill.

Matildahoney · 11/10/2024 22:32

I always thought it was weird until DC stopped feeding sooner than I was ready for them to which affected me massively, now its like I have a reminder of 'our journey'. (I hate that phrase but I'm tired and couldn't think of a better one.

I wish I had some of my newborns meconium in a bracelet but couldn't find anywhere that made such a thing. I think there's a go in the market.

Grin

Or baby vomit.

SeptemberSunglasses · 11/10/2024 21:52

I wouldn't want any jewellery from mine but it annoys me when breastmilk gets described as a bodily fluid like it's in the same category as urine or sweat. It's milk.

Spottydotty268 · 11/10/2024 21:22

Just wondering if you breastfed?

I did, for 14 months x 2.

Still think it's weird and although less gross than people making decorations out of strips of placenta or prints from the bloody pattern of the placenta it's on the same spectrum.

But then I don't get why DH has kept the DC's teeth that have fallen out either. His business if he wants to but it's just weird to me.

DH sent off a bit of mine and had a lovely ring made. I'd not heard of it before, but I thought it was a lovely gesture. The ring itself is gorgeous, you'd not have a clue that it's breastmilk - it looks like an opal.

I fed both of mine for a long time, and it was a challenge sometimes early on. Tongue ties, allergies, biting...I remember bleeding horrendously. Carried on because I knew it was best for them. DH was proud. 🤷‍♀️ I feel proud too.

Though I also love the idea of ashes jewellery, and I'm a taxidermy enthusiast. Love weird Victoriana too, so it's probably no surprise I appreciated it!

Orrinocc0 · 11/10/2024 20:59

I have no faith that you'd get your own milk back.

You'd never know you're walking round with a random's breast milk on a chain around your neck. Ewww.

RampantIvy · 11/10/2024 20:50

It's not for me. I know I BF DD and don't need to be reminded that I did by owning a piece of jewellery.

I didn't particularly "enjoy" breastfeeding. It was just something I did to make sure DD was nourished. I had a hard time at the beginning, but I don't understand why some women fetishise it. It's just a way of feeding a baby, that's all.

SometimesCalmPerson · 11/10/2024 20:43

It seems odd to me, but if it makes people happy and provides someone with a job then it’s got to be good.

I don’t think it’s comparable to jewellery that is made from or contains a little bit of ashes. Grief is a weird thing, but wanting something that can be with you at all time that helps someone feel closer to someone they’re grieving is completely understandable.

SimpleThings101 · 11/10/2024 16:14

Surely we aren’t talking about ingesting our loved one’s ashes?

Well, no, that’s pretty much the point. If I’m happy to put some tasty, but really quite disgusting when you think about it, things in my mouth, then I find it hard to get squeamish about jewellery that has been moulded and shaped to the point that it’s unrecognisable as breast milk or ashes, against my skin.

Haroldwilson · 11/10/2024 16:31

Minging but harmless I suppose

My children are made out of my breastmilk, so I don't really need another memento

forgotmypassagain · 11/10/2024 16:18

takealettermsjones · 04/10/2024 14:35

You called a death/grief custom "grim"

There are cultures who make things from ashes, from beads to statues to art. Just because you don't want it doesn't make it "grim"

Just because it’s someone else’s culture doesn’t mean can’t find something grim or horrible. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

agree with pp that it’s a bit mawkish.

SimpleThings101 · 11/10/2024 16:14

Whothefuckdoesthat · 04/10/2024 14:32

I find it hard to feel any sort of concern about wearing solid breast milk or jewellery made from ashes when I’m quite happy to drink cow’s milk, have leather shoes, have feathers in cushions and eat meat. I hate to sound like a militant vegan, but we ingest far more disgusting things than either our own bodily fluids or the ashes of a loved one.

Surely we aren’t talking about ingesting our loved one’s ashes?

Backtoblack87 · 11/10/2024 16:05

It’s weird but I wanted to do it!
I have only just thrown away a tiny pot of frozen expressed milk from the freezer… I stopped BF at 18 months, my son is now 6! I couldn’t part with it lol
