AIBU to say it’s the spider’s house now?

Massive spider crawling up my leg. Barely saw it as I am wearing black leggings. Reflexes kicked in and I brushed it off quickly, which flung it to the other sofa. It’s now somewhere in my lounge and I can’t find it and daren’t look for it. I know spiders are harmless but I cannot deal with them. DH is asleep as he has been working nights, so can’t help find it till the afternoon. AIBU to say it’s the spiders house now? Frantically searching Amazon for repellant spray… to make matters worse it was one of those huge ones with elbows and knees 🤮

You can just not click on this thread if it’s annoying

Of course, and equally I can click on them and agree with some others that it's all very silly and immature.

If it was me I would wake my dh up and he wouldn’t be going back to sleep until the spider is found and put outside. My fear of spiders is bad and my dh knew what he was taking on when he married me 🤣

😱 Vacuum everything. sofa cushions, every corner, nook and cranny. And spider spray the room.

We have this nonsense every year at his time. Grown women screaming over harmless little creatures.
To be clear, a small minority of people have a genuine phobia of spiders. That's awful, but it can be treated.
For the rest of us, let's grow up and not pretend we're frightened. And most of all, don't behave like that in front of children, or you will be teaching them to behave the same way.

Conversely, I don't have to pretend to like them because "feminism". I can hate them and that's okay.

MN actually hasn't been too bad so far this year.

But normally it's thread after thread of 'Tee hee hee', 'burn the house down', 'I needed a man to dispose of the spider' etc.

It's embarassing.

OK, some people don't like them but the giggly threads can get a bit much.

It’s that time of the year. He’s just sex-mad and desperate. Perhaps you could advertise for a mate for him, save him the leg work?

Well it's already literally sat on you and you survived so 🤷‍♀️ what's the worst thing that can happen after that?

The spider hysteria on here is wild. Also just saw someone on instagram saying she used her crème brûlée torch to kill a spider carrying her babies on her back. Can't get my head round people setting fire to creatures and thinking it's ok.

Yes I have one, now called Brendon living in the bathroom. When we first moved in here we had a shed which seemed to be spider central and the biggest one looked like he had paws he was sooo big.

I like that he’s got a name. Paws though?! Eek. Must be big

I love spiders. They eat flies.

If I lived in Australia or somewhere I'd feel differently, I'm sure!

Nor me, I'm not the biggest fan of spiders at all, but I always catch them (well dh does) and put them outside. Torching them is extremely cruel, and there's just no need. I spent all morning walking around a Web a spider had made, as they've put a lot of effort into that.

It's called a phobia.

I'm well aware they're harmless. Im still terrified of them.

I wouldn’t do that obviously. If I could find a large bowl I would put that on top of it until DH could take it outside. I do hate them.

I for one welcome our arachnid overlords.

Echomama · 04/10/2024 09:34

Enjoy the house hunting! Good luck with the move....
Although he probably owns all the furniture with creepy crawly hiding places too....

EveryKneeShallBow · 04/10/2024 09:32

My house, too. Mahoosive ones which I keep evicting but they are clearly homing spiders because they or their siblings keep coming back. I’m going to admit defeat. Surely the council must accept this as reasonable grounds for homelessness?

StolenChanel · 04/10/2024 09:30

Yep. Better draw up a tenancy agreement and hope it doesn’t trash the place in your absence!
