Just been into the local cemetery walking my dog, and felt uneasy about a man who seemed to be watching me.
He went to one grave down the bottom of the hill, went to another all while watching me, he didn't have any flowers or nothing for anyones grave. He appeared to be talking to himself.
He slowly made his way up towards the hill towards me, at this point my back where to him. I felt really uneasy, so faced towards him and he was staring at me and I felt really intimidated he stopped at another grave and then faced me again staring. I felt is was not quite right and my gut instincted was going, so I decided to abandon my walk with the dog and run back to the car. Got in the car and locked myself in and come back home.

Trust your instincts: don't go to the cemetary alone again.

MMUmum · 02/10/2024 17:54

I was once out with my dog in a wooded bridleway, he stopped suddenly, his hackles went up and he started growling, there didn't seem to be anyone or anything else about but nevertheless we were out of there sharpish, always trust your spidey senses.

FlappingMadly · 02/10/2024 17:38

Always trust your instinct. Better to feel silly or embarrassed than be dead.

nootcoffee · 02/10/2024 14:30

what route did you do this morning OP?!

It just sounds like he was keeping an eye on the dog. He didn't try to approach you. He stopped when you stopped. That's something people who are scared of dogs do. When they know a dog nearby, they become hypervigilant and keep their distance.

exactly

PattiSmithsPattis · 01/10/2024 19:35

Can I ask if you have ever tried putting the muzzle on your dog whilst it is already unhappy? So baring teeth/snapping? Because IF your collie did decide to do that again, however small the possibility in your mind, you yourself may be bitten.
Also, if this cemetery is used by dog walkers, is there not a chance you may encounter a cyclist? Or someone with a leaf blower or a lawn mower?
As for your encounter with a man today, I can't say if he was having nefarious thoughts but recommend trusting your instincts.
I probably wouldn't have phoned the police though.

I reckon it was a ghost who couldn't remember which was his headstone.

😆 😆 😆

Lacky301 · 01/10/2024 18:07

Maybe you looked like his deceased wife or somebody.

Yeah, good job she wasn't raped. It would've been her own bloody fault for being so close to the bloke.

If your instincts told you danger, would you not move away?

Be it from men, cars or bears!

ginasevern · 01/10/2024 16:28

Yeah, good job she wasn't raped. It would've been her own bloody fault for being so close to the bloke.

That's not what I said and what I implied so quit with the implied accusation of victim blaming.

I'm wondering why if she was only there for five minutes she ended up able to monitor the behaviour of someone so closely in a massive cemetery.

nootcoffee · 01/10/2024 16:31

no more industrial estate…. this has turned out to be a good thing Op. It’s giving you another walk route that doesn’t involve an industrial estate and a cemetery

@nootcoffee you'll be pleased to know my friend is coming to my house now, and we are walking the dog locally at 16.30 today.

Edited

a new walking route! You dog (and probably you!) will love the change!!

BogRollBOGOF · 01/10/2024 16:29

It may have been entirely innocent, but listening to your instincts is important, and no harm has been done by that and getting away.

I run a lot, often off-road and generally feel completely comfortable about it. Once I was on one of my running routes on my bike and there was a starey man with a hard expression. I checked over my shoulder a few times and he still stayed there staring. I never knew I could pedal so hard up a steep hill and I remember feeling relief that I was cycling not on foot for a faster getaway and speed advantage. No one else has ever provoked that instinct in me. Not even on the drug-runner cycle route through town. I just wanted to get away from him ASAP.

There was one young man in a university social club that none of the females warmed to. Guess whose hands I found in my pants when I woke up after a party...

Our instincts are there for a reason and they can help to protect us as an early warning when we pick up hostile body language cues.

Why did you have to be near him if the cemetery is massive?

Yeah, good job she wasn't raped. It would've been her own bloody fault for being so close to the bloke.

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 01/10/2024 16:21

@Mamabobogo I will, thank you.

@Asleeponthejob I think the man had mental health issues myself. I felt very uneasy near him.

You’ve diagnosed him? Amazing!

But even though you were very uneasy, you’re going back tomorrow!

have fun!

Machiavellian · 01/10/2024 16:12

Was he in fact.... A ghost?

My dog loves walking in the cemetary

Your dog just likes going for a walk.

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 01/10/2024 16:00

@Asleeponthejob yeah i'm going to see how I feel tomorrow. But I think ur right I might need to get my confidence back & walk in less secluded places.

so that just limits you to the industrial estate!

nootcoffee · 01/10/2024 16:06

@wavingfuriously if he wanted to chat then that would of been okay with me, but the silence & stareing unnerved me. He didn't say anything.
