To be disgusted by the Deafening Silence of Celebrities in the wake of Diddy allegations?

I can't be the only one who's deeply troubled by the silence from certain A-list celebrities following the recent allegations against Sean Combs aka Diddy. It's been weeks since the news broke, and the lack of response from some of his closest associates in the industry is, quite frankly, disturbing.

Let's talk about Jay-Z and Beyoncé, for instance. These two have been thick as thieves with him for years. Countless collaborations, public appearances, and even vacations together. And now? Radio silence. Not even a peep about condemning the alleged actions or distancing themselves from him. It's baffling.

Ashton Kutcher is another one who's keeping silent. Given his vocal stance against human trafficking and exploitation, you'd think he'd be the first to speak up. But nope, nothing.

Now, I want to tread carefully when it comes to Usher and Justin Bieber. There's been speculation about their own experiences, and if they were indeed victims themselves, I absolutely respect their right to process this privately. No one should be forced to relive trauma or speak out if they're not ready.

But for those who weren't victimised? Their silence is deafening. How hard is it to release a statement saying, "I don't condone these actions" or "I had no knowledge of these alleged crimes"? Anything would be better than this awkward void.

I'm honestly shocked that there hasn't been more public backlash against these silent celebrities. In an era where "cancel culture" can be triggered by a misplaced tweet, how are they getting a free pass? Having your longtime friend and associate arrested on such serious charges, and you can't even muster up a word of condemnation? It's beyond disappointing.

What do you all think? Am I being too harsh, or is this silence truly inexcusable? Should we, as consumers and fans, be demanding more accountability from these public figures?

@FUBAR77 absolutely and there are so many click bait sources around this, I try and stick to a few reputable sources only. Kempire on YouTube gives good updates, popcorn planet and Toure on TikTok

Who were the people who stepped down from their role?

Thank you. It's a sad shame because when people talk about trafficking and women's rights in the Middle East and other places, no one is calling it irrelevant.

I recently saw an interview with Sharon Osbourne commenting on this situation. Her son Jack called her out because she said she doesn't have an opinion as she's "not from that world" and knows nothing about it. How ridiculous! Do we really need to be experts in hip hop to condemn wrongdoing? Surely this should unite all people regardless of background - we're discussing a potentially dangerous criminal hiding in plain sight.

It's concerning that because we're talking about a black man, I get the feeling some people seem to dismiss it as "just a black issue." This attitude ignores the fact that Diddy is literally one of the most powerful people in the entertainment industry! He even did a panel interview about this very issue, pointing out how he's often pigeonholed into "black sections," limiting his opportunities. Some posters here are inadvertently demonstrating exactly that kind of thinking.

The charges here are serious - alleged sex trafficking, blackmail, bribery, rape, criminal damage, assault. As you mentioned, the day Diddy was charged, about twelve people connected to the industry stepped down from their roles. This suggests something much bigger is going on.

This isn't just about hip hop or one demographic - it's about power, abuse, and potentially systemic issues in the entertainment industry that affect us all. Dismissing it as irrelevant does a disservice to the victims and to our broader discussions about social justice and accountability.

She was woman who Jay Z was having an affair with and was found dead, pregnant, the day before Beyonce announced her pregnancy. She was going to go public with the affair and the pregnancy at the VMAs and the day before they happened she was dead. Diddy says he has the evidence of both of their involvement. It's heavily suggested Z also had a hand in Aaliyah's death, bit but I don't think anyone can prove that one.
He said he's ready to take down the House of Carter.

Why would they want to kill Aaliyah? Because of R Kelly?!

Puttheneedleontherackets · 30/09/2024 21:00

What’s been said about Leo? I always feel these young girls he dates could be a cover up…is he gay?

Krampers · 30/09/2024 17:15

You can add Leo Di Caprio another one close to Diddy!!

There's been things circulating about Leo for a long time. My Dp is friends with an actor and a screen writer over there. They don't know each other but have told him the same things that they've heard through the grapevine.

FUBAR77 · 30/09/2024 18:08

Thanks for the thread @notaurewhatusername I’ve been down so many rabbit holes with this - Some of which appear to be cruel click bait lies (Jayden Smith being pawned to him for example), but most seem credible.

I saw something (unsure if true!) that said his head teacher and school priest were both jailed the year after he left the school, his ‘kinks’ do appear to be in line with someone having been subject to abuse, that he has been recreating. All the freak offs are around degradation and a way for him to convince himself he’s not gay - The link I’ve found most shocking is Will Smith being with him, although I did see something a year ago with a bodyguard coming out to say he walked in on WS with another man.

We think we ‘know’ these people but it’s all just a PR ruse isn’t it….

TBH, I don't really care what millionaires on the other side of the world are getting up to, criminal or not. It sounds harsh, I know, but I've got my own things going on rather than getting upset and disgusted over the actions of a man and group of people I've never met, who don't know I exist.

Maybe this post is not for you- original question was not if you cared.

This was my thinking, but I'm sure it is much more complicated than that.

I've always thought that Hollywood and the music industry was very much a club that was full of wrong uns and fakery that stifled true creativity. I've never been too bothered by it all and I'm glad the sheen is getting blown off it all with these revellations now and hopefully this behaviour will be stopped.

I cringe at the music I listened to in the late 90s and 00s now. It's not exactly hard to find the sexual predators is it?

Hollywood is filled with predators in the entertainment industry.

That doesn't mean the ones who make it big aren't extremely talented.

Jay Z is a bloody genius. You don't make it that far without talent.

Might not be everyone's cup of tea but the talent is there regardless.

And again, that is NOT all they rap about. I find that rhetoric pretty racist.

I'm not sure why some posters feel this story is irrelevant for Mumsnet. If you're a millennial, unless you lived under a rock, Diddy was one of the biggest stars of the 90s and 2000s. He featured on many songs with major artists like Jennifer Lopez, Usher, Notorious B.I.G., Mariah Carey, and Beyoncé, just to name a few.

Something tells me if the thread had been about Taylor Swift, no one would call it irrelevant - and she's also in the US. Same goes for the Harvey Weinstein scandal, which people seemed interested in despite it being US-centric.

As another poster pointed out, this could be the start of the fall of a whole industry of people, making it very relevant indeed. We might be witnessing a major shift in the music industry, similar to what happened in Hollywood after Weinstein.

Is the disinterest actually code for something else? Why are we applying different standards of "relevance" to different stories or personalities?

It’s annoying isn’t it - as if MN is only meant for certain demographic. If you are not interested just don’t click in it!

They’ll be busy getting legal advice and keeping their heads low to avoid repercussions. Their time will come. If they speak out they either implicate themselves or put themselves in danger. As long as they’re all eventually locked up, starting with jay z and Beyoncé.

Hmm. I happen to think abuse of women, possible trafficking and certainly assault is something we should all be concerned about wherever it happens. And when positions of power are involved, it makes no difference if it's music you don't like, politics, or any other field, it's the same structural problem.

And that, indirectly or not, affects all of us.

Did you think the same about Epstein and Prince Andrew?

I think they divorced because they are both narcissistic people.

That said I wouldn't want to be Jlo right now.

Agree with this, I don't think the divorce has anything to do with this, was just imagining what the conspiracy theorists might think.

Josette77 · 30/09/2024 16:57

Tell me you don't listen to rap, without telling me you don't listen to rap...

No, that isn't all they rap about. That's actually a very insulting view of music that is made by predominantly black artists.

This is HUGE. I used to love Diddy and Jay Z.
After the video of him beating Cassie I thought he was pretty messed up. This is even levels above that.

murasaki · 30/09/2024 16:13

I really doubt it is. But if one were going to spin a website of bullshit, one could say Affleck wanted the divorce as he knew she'd be mentioned in any legal case re Diddy as she dated him for a long time and was in court at the time over a shooting with him that might re emerge, so Affleck's avoiding any links himself by getting out early.

Frankly tenuous at best though.

LBFseBrom · 30/09/2024 14:58

I expect they have been advised to keep schtum for now. Anything they say can be used.

When it all came out, or started to, about Jeffrey Epstein I looked at lots of news reports, docs and interviews with people involved with him. I don't really like that sort of thing but it was buzzing everywhere and I wanted to get facts if possible so if it was talked about, I had something valid to say. I went over some things twice.

There were several people, mainly men and some quite young, who Epstein had helped in their careers or business, he was extremely influential, had many contacts in all sorts of spheres. They were vocal and quite outraged that he was being accused of all these things, didn't believe it, he had been so good to them, etc. That despite the fact he had a conviction but they thought he was innocent, took a plea as the easiest way out. They were so loyal! I was quite surprised at it all, some were really upset and hurt on his behalf. However I knew nothing about Epstein then. I realised later how insidiously manipulative and plausible he was, anyone could have been sucked in, and his particularly heinous activities were hidden in plain sight.

I have no doubt people have learned from that, that it's better to keep quiet if you can. Also of note that Diddy refuses to take a plea.

I'm glad never to have known either.

ZoeCM · 30/09/2024 14:57

If he's done even half of the stuff he's been accused of, he's essentially a real-life supervillain. Blowing up Kid Cudi's car? Killing a surgeon because he refused to remove his girlfriend's breast implants after one day? It's crazy.

Lampzade · 30/09/2024 14:53

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 30/09/2024 07:53

I do not believe that PD is top of the tree. Neither was Epstein.

This has been on twitter for years- why now?

He has obviously burned his bridges with some people and they are determined to bring him down.

Totally agree
Let is all he honest. The lack of interest from some posters is because Diddy is a black American rapper.
I am a white , middle aged English woman and I am very interested in this because of the
potential fallout
Alleged sex trafficking, blackmail, bribery, rape, criminal damage, assault are some of the charges.
The day that Diddy was charged about twelve people connected to the industry stepped down from their roles. Something fishy is going on.
