I saw Camel Balls at the post office earlier. Huge great testes hanging off a camel on the packet. My 7 year old thought it was hilarious!

If you let your children have any involvement in Halloween you can’t really be upset by this.

Must keep an eye out for those! Gdcs would find them hilarious, too!

I have to admit I'm not overly keen on the way Halloween has veered off into serial killers and mass murder. It was all ghosties and ghoulies and a few skeletons when I was growing up. Yes, the theme was dead things and there were creepy stories about their untimely demise, but not this out and out thirst for gore. Little kids are running around with costumes depicting characters from 18 rated horror films that involve torture and murder. Some of them are dressed as real life serial killers. I'm afraid I'm a little bit pearl clutching about this - and not much bothers me.

Halloween is traditionally the time when the veil is thin between this world and the spirit world. So the supernatural - ghosts, witches, skeletons. It's linked to the Celtic new year, Samhain. In the Christian calendar it's the night (or e'en) before All Saints Day on 1st Nov and All Souls Day on 2nd Nov, when prayers were said for the deceased.

It has absolutely nothing to do with chainsaw massacres or psychos in motels murdering naked women in showers.

Murder Motel is too strong for sweets aimed at kids.
They could have gone with Assault Tavern or GBH Inn maybe

Isittoolatea · 28/09/2024 23:46

What about this?

That should be illegal

MissMeMiss · 29/09/2024 00:03

Too many people trying to make Halloween all about kids!

It's all inappropriate if you look hard enough.... just leave it for teens and adults if you don't like what you see

SkiingIsHeaven · 29/09/2024 00:02

OP just don't buy them then. Problem solved.

Vote with your feet.

Edingril · 28/09/2024 23:58

There is sweets in the shape of skeletons and other things if we looked hard enough we could complain about

I presume this is from the movie Psycho so a joke for more parents

Halloween these days is tacky and silly but it is a bit of fun even though I don't personally do anything about it

Why do people need to sap all the fun out of things, if you don't want to buy them dont

mm81736 · 28/09/2024 23:56

...and the undead

Fun? And wtf has 'murder motel' got to do with Halloween?

What?
Halloween is all about the dead!

FrogletandMe · 28/09/2024 23:32

I agree with you.

Also, I can't believe those Camel Balls sweets!

ErrolTheDragon · 28/09/2024 22:47

I’m guessing Psycho?

Yes...really not something appropriate for kids sweets.

Halloween for kids is silly 'supernatural' scary stuff.

Pinkpop8 · 28/09/2024 21:08

MissMeMiss · 28/09/2024 20:27

@Pinkpop8 what would you like to see Halloween sweets called then? What would you call these specific ones?

Hmm @Rumforme has better ideas than me! I’m not sure tbh but maybe not the murder word

I too was going to say Camel balls sweets are pretty gory- especially as they are red inside! 😯

Rumforme · 28/09/2024 20:33

Oo, creative challenge. I would call Halloween themed sweets:
Ghoulish gummies
Scary sweets
Terrifying treats
Vampire snacks
Monster yums
Cackle candy

Kaete · 28/09/2024 20:25

They're Halloween sweets... don't see the issue.

MissMeMiss · 28/09/2024 20:23

It's Halloween 'horror'

Not sure what's expected....fluffy pumpkins and smiley ghosts?
