The common cold is nowhere near as infectious as covid.🙄

And you don’t get Long Colds that debilitate you for years.

Bellatrixpure · 29/09/2024 10:20

the common cold is also very infectious, as is D&V. Stay home and don’t expect people to spend money confirming that they have it

Because it is more infectious than anything else so much more likely to infect people.

My main problem with masks is how we were all told ( back in March 2020) they were useless for the general public and suddenly they were not. The professional ones told us this!
I would comply and did comply, but I understand why people think as they do and wouldn't comply again tbh. The messages were definitely mixed over mask wearing.

They lied in march 2020 because we just didn't have enough masks. The reusable cloth ones that they then advised people to use probably didn't do much either. It was all about money and lack of preparation.

I did a covid test last Wednesday and it was positive and I just did one today five days later and it is now negative so I don't know when in the five days time frame it went from positive to negative but the main thing is it's now negative and I can start really seriously planning for my trip away however I do have a few symptoms like the shortness of breaths but those will go over time so there you go I'm now a very very happy person

Why does the test changing to negative mean so much if you still don’t feel well?

Your trip is 3 weeks away so you were always not going to have covid by then.

wombat15 · 29/09/2024 10:17

Bellatrixpure · 29/09/2024 09:53

I think it’s madness to spend money on a covid test to be honest. If you’re unwell, you stay home, rest, avoid spreading it to others and take the necessary medicine for your symptoms. What good is knowing that you are covid positive for the majority of cases?

I mentioned masks to a friend and how I've seen people wearing them again inside places
Her answer ' it's been proved they don't work '
So people will not do it
It's only one opinion, but one I've heard a lot of times and seems to be imbedded

Funnywonder · 29/09/2024 10:00

We keep an eye on what illnesses arrive in our home because our 12yo is immunosuppressed. He could become very ill with Covid and is eligible for antivirals, provided of course that we know he has Covid, which obviously involves testing. I'm sick of people saying it's nothing more than a cold. Colds don't have possible long term repercussions, nor do they generally kill people. Comparing it to the flu is at least acknowledging its seriousness, given that a flu vaccine is developed every year to manage the risk of serious illness and death in vulnerable groups. I completely understand that people don't want to test or wear masks or self isolate for days on end, but surely they can at least recognise that Covid is not the same for everyone and that their blasé remarks about it being just a cold are ignorant and lacking in compassion for others. It's the old 'I'm alright Jack, pull the ladder up ..'

Masks work if fitted properly and I still wear one in theatres, public transport etc. Covid is different to other infections as it is much more infectious. We don't know what the long term effects of continuous infections are.

Because l have LC l read about it quite a lot.

It has the potential to significantly impact a large number of people, some predictions are dire. The more times you get it the higher the risk. I have read once predicted scenario where 60% of the world could have it.

The World Economic Forum have issued warnings about the financial impacts it’s having on the world economy.

I have read research that it’s linked to oestrogen and this is why women are disproportionality affected.

And yet people on here are so blasé. It won’t happen to them. I thought that too. I didn’t care. I felt safe. l’ll just carry on as normal. It’s no longer a threat.

But it is. In an insidious dark way. The threat of dying is low. The threat of disability isn’t.

I agreed with lockdown and mask wearing, but many many people I've come across are of the opinion it was hyperbole and a ' waste of time ' cost millions , a cover up, all about control , only the flu and wearing masks has been proven not to work anyway ( although I admit they didn't ask us to wear masks from the start)
I don't necessarily agree with all the above , only what I've heard from people in all walks of life and status and peddled a lot by the media and certain news outlets.
Good luck to any government faced with another pandemic of any kind. I fear that many wouldn't comply with much anymore or maybe if they didn't have any choice in the matter ( they wouldn't wear masks for example)

No we do get it @ArseInTheCoOpWindow and I'm sorry that has been your experience with getting Covid. However, my personal experience is that I have had it definitely once, probably twice and for me it was nothing more than a bad cold.

I had it twice too. And it was like a bad cold.

The second time it destroyed me. Don’t make the assumption that you won’t get LC just because it hasn’t affected you yet.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 29/09/2024 09:37

I was blasé about Covid. So many sneering comments on here.

Last year l got Long Covid. I’m still bed and housebound 15 months later. There was nothing wrong with me at all before this. Covid has destroyed my life.

All l can say is Covid isn’t a cold. It isn’t flu. I’ve had post viral syndrome after flu. This is a whole different level.

I think thoughts about Hubris might be useful for some people on this thread.

the80sweregreat · 29/09/2024 09:36

I guess people can't be bothered to test because it's pretty meaningless now. Work don't ask people to test anymore and many don't pay sick pay , so people carry on regardless a lot of the time anyway and just spread it around everyone else.
My old tests are out of date now , so I need to buy some more.
Most people are Covid deniers now too, wouldn't do lockdown or masks again anyway

No, it's not "total utter madness". 🙄

If you are ill, you stay at home and try to get better. I wouldn't go and see my mum who is 80 or my friend who is going through chemo when I'm ill, and the specific name of that illness does not matter.

Also I am sure you would not approve of someone who suspects they have this terrifying, dangerous thing called Covid popping along to their local pharmacy or supermarket and buying tests, spreading their dangerous illness to half the town.

Long story short - not everyone is as scared of Covid as you are.

Take it very gently if still getting symptoms so doesn't become long COVID

Your holiday could be just the thing if it involves lots of rest in a warm climate - less so if it's hiking in Scotland...

Flute56 · 29/09/2024 09:03

Wouldnt you be even a bit curious whether you had cobid. Most people i know test if unwell

I wouldn't be curious enough to buy tests. Did a couple of times when I still had a box of the free ones, as they were there and it was mildly interesting so why not. Most people lost access to free tests about two and a half years ago, so even if they have any left they probably won't be in date.

KnottedTwine · 29/09/2024 09:11

No, if you're unwell then you deal with the symptoms and try to get better. I think I probably had it in the summer as I had headache, sore throat, chills, aches, so I took paracetamol, Strepsils for the sore throat and bundled myself up in warm clothing. Why would it matter if it was flu, covid, or some other viral thing?

Motheranddaughter · 29/09/2024 09:04

No ,not in the slightest
