Child identifies as a wolf ... WTF?

Portakalkedi · 27/09/2024 12:15

Just on Radio 4 now, discussing a child in secondary school who identifies as a wolf, and the school is going along with this. AIBU to think the world (or at least the UK) has gone mad? If said child is living in the woods, catching its own prey etc etc, howling and running with other wolves, which I doubt, then why the hell is anyone going along with it? They are also saying that some others identify as dogs or cats etc. And here was me thinking men 'identifying' as women was bad.

They do it, because they can! Wolf, would have clothing removed, raw food and be in a cage outside! Assuming they'd need to be treated by a vet too and have all their shots!

The poster stated gender was observiedcat birth. I was pointing out this was not possible and as gender is a load of made up bullshit no one can know anyone’s gender one’s gender at birth.
if trans people know that sex and gender is different, why do they keep wanting to access spaces for the opposite sex? Surely they’d go in the mixed gender single sex bathrooms related to their sex?

I'm still confused as to what you mean. could you explain a little bit more to me to understand?

im confused as to what you mean. Sex and gender are different. sex is things like chromosomes and things like XX (female sex) XY (male sex) XXX, XXY, XYY (intersex), and hormones, Gender is a social and cultural construct. Your gender can be influenced by social norms, personal or cultural beliefs, and gender expression (clothing, mannerisms, etc). Us trans people are aware that we cannot change our sex. However, we can change our gender. While yes, we don't know if the baby will turn out to be non-binary or agender, we have to let them figure that out. We should let them know we will support them, no matter what. hopefully this makes sense. It does to me, but to some people it doesn't.

Do you mean sex there? No one can know anyone’s gender at birth. What if the baby is agender? Or non binary. How would they know at birth? Are they just assuming the baby’s gender!!!

All transwomen are males pretending to identify as women. They can’t identify as women because they have no idea what being a woman is and in most cases can’t even define a woman.

There are definitely some males who genuinely believe that they have a female "gendered soul".

Just as there are definitely people who believe that it's possible for a virgin to give birth to a child... ~2 billion people worldwide.

Some people genuinely hold beliefs that differ from biological reality.

But there are also several pretenders of both these beliefs.

It becomes a ratio thing: I'm going to assume that most Christians genuinely do believe that Jesus' mum was a virgin and that god was his father. People who hold this belief and people who pretend to hold this belief will talk about miracles, divine intervention etc to explain how it's apparently possible for biological facts to be irrelevant.

I'm not going to comment on the other ratio, except to say that right now anyone who tries to suggest there are bad actors (in any number) risks losing their job and more. People who hold the belief that we all have a gender identity and people who pretend to hold this belief will talk about someone's sex being "assigned at birth", will interchange the words sex and gender etc to explain how it's apparently possible for biological facts to be irrelevant.

Additionally, there are some transwomen who are males pretending to believe that they identify as women so that they can mask their autogynophilia.

Therians identify as non-human animals. transgender people identify as a different gender than they were at birth

Thank you for answering.

So, to play this back:

  1. The difference between the two is as per your answer
  2. The similarity between the two is that both identify as something different from what they are:
  • a therian is a human who identifies as a non-human animal
  • a transwoman is a man who identifies as a woman (and a transman is a woman who identifies as a man)

In both cases, they may either acknowledge the reality of what they are but wish that they were as per their identity or they may hold a genuine belief that their physical reality is irrelevant and that they are actually what they identify as.

Does that sound like a fair summary?

There is another reason why some people might have a trans identity but I'll post it on a separate comment in case it's not within the guidelines of this board.

Yes, you made it clear.

But the questions about how "being" a therian and "being" trans differ (or don't) are valid.

I've used quote marks because, assuming I understand your position correctly, you recognise that you are a human (owing to the reality of your physical body) but you also believe that you are a therian. Whereas I don't believe that anyone has a therian (or transgender) identity within them.

Personally, I'm happy to call people trans, therian or whatever because I see it as a description of their belief. Just as I call someone who believes in god a Christian, even though I'm an atheist.

However, I draw the line at anyone expecting me to act as if I hold the belief myself.

To give an example: if I was with you in person, I might introduce you as follows to someone "This is TheHamilton. TheHamilton is a therian". I wouldn't introduce you as whatever creature you identify as because obviously I don't believe that you are that creature.... just as I wouldn't introduce Bonkersbilly by saying "This is Napoleon" 😁

If the other person asks me what a therian was I would explain that they are people who believe that they have an animal/creature identity within themselves. I might even say that it's similar to how trans people believe that they have a gender identity within themselves which differs from their sex.

It would be good to hear your viewpoint on the very valid questions that Frozenberries asked above:

Like a trans woman is biologically male but wants to identify as female?
So, how are they different? Therian and trans?

I saw a child on the bus who was dressed partly as a fox and partly as a goth. She spoke to friends in yaps, but seemed quite capable of using a bus pass, using a rucksack, drinking from a water bottle and replying politely to an elderly lady. I wouldn't allow it with a teen; it's either too young for them, or a sign of being mixed up in adult fetishes, or a sign of mental illness.

Like a trans woman is biologically male but wants to identify as female?

So, how are they different? Therian and trans? They sound very similar to me. Both are things you know are not biologically possible but things you wish to identify as. Eg woman or cat.

you’re a human. It doesn’t matter if you want to be a cat. You are not one. You can identify as one if you like, you can identify as a potato, a man, a woman, a wind turbine, none of it matters. You’re a biological human male or biological human female.

the end

It's a bit cloudy here tonight but I'm guessing it's a full moon? Never heard so much deranged nonsense in my life!

Therianthropy is a non-harmful identity. I would know, considering I am a therian. However therianthropy is not a choice, just like how being trans isn't a choice. Again, However, therianthropy is different from transgender.

If you identify as an animal, how are you able to access Mumsnet and type a response on this thread?

Christmasbird · 28/08/2025 13:23

Take away the ipads and spend more time in the outdoors, crafting, learning to play an instrument, build dens ect but most importantly stop them watching nonsense and indulging them in this bullshit.
I've just realised I'm sounding like my own mother but anyone who indulges their child in this claptrap is to blame just as much as anything.

If the sad entity had an accident and went to hospital needing a blood transfusion would the hapless parents want them to be given wolf blood, no doubt resulting in a bit of a death? Or would they force themselves to agree to the correct human blood type?

I would guess that the odds are a bit too close to call on that, given many transwomen have an F on their NHS records in the "sex" category.... so may also end up in a bit of a similarly dead predicament:

https://archive.ph/NzA08

I assume no more research has been done into this, given much of the NHS no longer has records about its patients' sex. D'oh:

https://archive.ph/HL4Ws

Presumably it's better just go with people/wolves are who they say they are, give them the blood that matches their identity and hope nobody ever asks questions.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but this is affecting other children too.

In a different case, because a classmate would not go along with humouring a fellow pupil by referring to them as a cat, the girl was called despicable by the teacher.
Which begs the question, who the hell is teaching our kids?
