Is it me or are more and more people on here just being fucking nasty for the sake of it?! Honestly if you have nothing nice to say to people that are genuinely looking for some advice because they haven't got anywhere else to turn just keep your opinion to yourself! It really isn't hard to be nice!

Plus that’s part of the reason some people post. They want to know whether calling their baby Bertie-Bob Russell Roberts is a good idea, and friends and family are saying ‘Lovely’ and changing the subject.

Calling someone a moron either to their face (via MN) or behind their back in RL is never nice.

BIWI · 26/09/2024 15:20

@HolidayAtNight

Those threads can definitely be nasty ABOUT Mumsnet, but the way posters interact with each other is very different.

Does that excuse how nasty they are about MNetters? Some of the stuff they say about me is truly awful. Not just Bootcamp - I don't mind that, as they patently have no clue about low carbing - but about me specifically.

Iamthemoom · 26/09/2024 14:14

I agree OP. I was just reading a post about curtains and comments had been removed for breaking the talk guidelines and I was thinking how on earth could someone be so moved to write something mean when the op was just asking if it was ok to return some curtains with a fault! I think there are people who get off on just being nasty. I was offering good helpful, totally I controversial advice the other day when someone randomly started attacking my replies either snarky comments. I guess to some it's a sport. Ignore the trolls. Your point was literally proved with the first snarky response!

I think it's nice that everyone is so honest on here, it's much better than people nodding and smiling in real life and then bitching behind your back.

maybe some days the person posting or replying has just had a really bad day and needs somewhere to let off steam before going back to the real world.

most people who post are well meaning, and it only appears rude when it doesnt agree with the general theme of the post.

lol it's nice you see the best in people but this isn't true. Lots are deliberately really really cruel with no advice at all. But also lots are very kind and helpful too but let's not dismiss the blatant nasty ones

I have absolutely no idea what your talking about. I was simply pointing out that threads/topics will get repeated.

and i was simply explaining why the "wah wah meanies on mumsnet" is quite so annoying

HTH

The thing about posting on the internet, as opposed to face-to-face conversation is that you don't have to couch what you're saying so as not to offend the other person.

That's not to excuse being nasty - but it does mean that posts here are much more direct.

I think it's also very refreshing to be able to say what you mean, and not have to kowtow to the #BeKind brigade.

(Oh, and if anyone tells you that Tattle is better/nicer/kinder than Mumsnet, just have a read of their long-running MN threads. It's beyond bitchy.)

Not sure why this grates so much, maybe because you can make a change to the impact on you by not coming here?

The parking threads are normally "this has happened / is currently happening to me", and relevant to a person at that time - so kind of like I hate soaps and dont want to watch Eastenders, but I have to as I want to watch things on the BBC - well, dont watch Eastenders then, there are plenty of other things to watch at 730 on a tuesday?

I have absolutely no idea what your talking about. I was simply pointing out that threads/topics will get repeated.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 26/09/2024 13:07

It's not a new thing, but yes there are many nasty and rude people on here. People can be as rude as they want to when they are anonymous. The best thing is to just ignore the comments, don't feed them the attention they crave by quoting them or replying to them.

See this "If you've nothing nice to say..." crap it really pisses me off.
I'm not here to defend nasty but if people only want to hear "nice" things then you're not actually a fully grown adult, and you do not fully understand how the world and human beings work.
You post here for a range of opinions. Not fake niceness

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 26/09/2024 12:42

DaniMontyRae · 26/09/2024 10:11

By professionally offended do you just mean disagrees with? Maybe you are the one proving the OP's point because you've resorted to insults straight away.

I mean the ones who jump on threads like this to tell off the OP for being unoriginal, new here, a snowflake, in the wrong place etc.
But don't seem to see the irony that they are posting on a thread they don't like.
And I've been here since this was all fields.
And I report bullying when I see it.
In this case, as I said previously, I wonder if the OP here is reacting to the really nasty vicious trolling that an OP of an overnight thread was subjected to. I've never hit the report button so fast.
I understand that AIBU is home to the vipers. I like it. It's entertaining.
But just because it's AIBU shouldn't mean that all vestiges of civilised behaviour should be abandoned.

Bayern · 26/09/2024 12:25

I have been on MN for nearly 20 years. I do think it has got worse.
AIBU used to be robust, sure. Now, it is just seen as an opportunity to be openly rude, aggressive and argumentative. And it leaches into other areas. If you dare to post an opinion that differs from the general direction of responses, the vitriol can be vile.

Scampuss · 26/09/2024 11:33

Did you come on Mumsnet by mistake?

Week01 · 26/09/2024 11:27

TheRavenSaid · 26/09/2024 08:59

Wow - thanks for your imput....

Maybe you could have added to one of the weekly threads this comes up on repeatedly?

If you dont like it - why are you here?

First post proves OPs point entirely.

capstix · 26/09/2024 11:22

YABU

It's the old lazy response that "people who disagree with me are trolls".

We're all different - you can't please all of the people all of the time. If you are asking a large number of people something, be pleased if 80% agree with you or support you. If you are focussed on the minority who think you're wrong, then it's not us, love, it's you.

Why? Why should be prepared for bitchy answers?

It would be better for the posters mh if they took a breath before typing.

Lol, it's AIBU. It's known for it. Post in chat if you don't want to poke the Vipers. AIBU - you need to brace for a roasting.

GoingForALongWalk · 26/09/2024 11:05

TheRavenSaid · 26/09/2024 09:10

No, not intending to be amusing.

Just fed up of this weekly moan, seriously - if somewhere makes you so unhappy, really, why are you here?

If you are so fed up, why are you reading and replying on the thread?

You don't have to read everything just because it's here. If I don't think a post looks interesting I don't read it. Try that and you won't get fed up.

Kiuyni · 26/09/2024 10:58

unsync · 26/09/2024 10:54

Tsk, people are so touchy nowadays. If you are asking on AIBU, you need to be prepared. Twas ever thus.

I disagree. I don't think there's huge amounts of nastiness on MN. Healthy debate, constructive criticism perhaps. It's not a support group. It isn't therapy.

I agree. If someone says something you don’t like, either ignore it, or call it out and report them. If it’s just that they’re not stroking your ego, or agreeing with you, that’s fine. We all have different opinions. I don’t really give a toss what other people’s opinions are, beyond a quick scroll while I drink my tea. I just roll my eyes and scroll on. No one’s here to make you feel better. If you don’t happen to like me, pass me by.

SpottySpotSpots · 26/09/2024 10:54

I never really understand why people think AIBU is for support. Its not - its 'am I being unreasonable', just like Reddit's AITA - it is famously brutal and snarky. I remember when I was pregnant being on a baby forum and someone linking to AIBU because it was 'hilarious, but vicious and not for the sensitive'. And that was a decade ago.

The rest of mumsnet is fantastic for supporting posters, providing brilliant advice and information.
