Labour PIP benefit cuts

Stickytoffeepudding6 · 25/09/2024 21:01

Can someone help me please?

I'm absolutely spiraling. I've just read up about the Labour conference and everything about PIP reforms.

I'm absolutely panicking. I feel like giving up. I'm on PIP with mental health.

I do work. Part time.

@XenoBitch They seen well enough 100% of the time to me, its one big party round here.
I see these people day and night.
They go on annual holidays, they go to the pub, socialing with friends, they shop and carry heavy loads into there house. Believe me not one of them can not undertake some kind of work.

Where I live woman next door claims every benifit including pip, claims to have a bad back, every summer I see her carrying crates of budweiser. Been out of work all her life.
4 adults in other house, not one of them has ever worked, and are claming pip etc..., all got arms, all got legs, all got a brain refuse them. All go socialing down the pub and that and go on annual holidays.
Theres a woman further up the road, nowt wrong with her and never had a job in the 30 years i've known her, watches wide screen tv at night.
Another woman who has had 7 children, not a single one of them work Her children are 19-30 odd years old. Her 2 youngest sons are 19 and 21 never had a job claim all benifits.
If people can work then they should work, where is the pride sitting at home if your able.

What a lot you know about your neighbours, including their disabilities and their nocturnal activities @IveGotToGoToMeDads. It must be exhausting for you fitting in work around that surveillance.

@EasternStandard if people can work then they should work.

I get the line but I'm not sure what Labour can actually do policy wise to say get the person you describe back to work v posters on here who have also described the reason for getting what they do

I think they could use a carrot type policy and encourage people, or a stick but that won't be welcomed by everyone

XenoBitch · 26/09/2024 16:11

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 26/09/2024 16:04

@Differentstarts I just don't understand how she claims to have a bad back, but then is seen carrying crates of bud into the house.

A disability only has to affect someone for 50% of the time for them to be eligible to claim.
People with disabilities are allowed to have good days... and they are the days when people see them out doing stuff, which then leads others to assume they are committing fraud.

If this were the case, going by your posts, what would Labour do?

Because she's feeding you bullshit and probably finds it funny because you fall for it or doesn't want to share her actual medical history with you. I have multiple physical and mh conditions some, people are aware of others I keep to myself as people are judgemental. For e.g. if your diagnosis is paranoid schizophrenia I would also be telling people I don't work because of my back

Yeah, sure right. She'll have a plethora of things the matter with her that she's not telling you about.

That she's stupid enough to say it's a bad back is beside the point

I could not claim ESA, as I live in a full UC area. I think you can still claim contributions based ESA though.
Everyone is getting moved over to UC though.

Yeah I got moved over nearly a year ago I was getting pip and wtc then the wtc went and changed to universal credit. I didn't know lcrwa existed until universal credit contacted me to ask why I only work part time

XenoBitch · 26/09/2024 16:01

Bignanna · 26/09/2024 15:56

Why aren’t you reporting these fraudsters?

Oh, people claim they do and that "nothing happens"... maybe because they were investigated and found to be a genuine claim.

I can't take seriously a post that mentions someone's TV as some sort of proof they are a fraud. It is straight out of the DM.

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 26/09/2024 16:00

@Bignanna I try to keep myself to myself, I would not like to report them because I don't want to make enemies with my neighbours.
They are nice people, but I feel from what i've seen and heard that they would be capable of some work.

Differentstarts · 26/09/2024 15:59

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 26/09/2024 15:55

@Differentstarts i'm only going on what she has told me herself, and like I say shes not got a bad back carrying budweiser crates into her house.
I've been here over 20years it would be quicker to tell you who works on this street, there is just me and people in my household and about 5 other house holds work. All the rest claim benifits like pip.
i know this because I talk to all my neighbours.

Don't believe what people are telling you obviously you can't get pip for your back hurting unless she had multiple scan images and consultant letters showing actual severe damage. Dates of surgeries and hospital stays a gp letter alone wouldn't be enough to qualify for pip

It is moving over but for now there are huge numbers still on the old ESA. they are starting to be moved across now. Contributions based ESA can still be claimed.

Yes but it if a.person is in receipt of both PIP and UC ,the PIP can.have a positive affect on the UC award

Yes it gives a higher LHA for people over 35. It also means if one of a couple are in receipt of daily living PIP the other can claim a carers element no matter how much they work or earn. It also lifts the benefit cap which can make a huge difference. It also means someone can be assessed for LCW/ LCWRA even if they are earning more than 16xnmw. As a knock on , someone getting LCW or LCWRA can have a huge impact for example in a couples claim where they have no kids as if the other partner is working they then start getting a work allowance too which further boosts the UC claim. So yes a PIP award can have huge implications for a Uc claim. PIP is a hugely beneficial benefit to secure with it's implications for just about every other benefit.

Differentstarts · 26/09/2024 15:54

Miley1967 · 26/09/2024 15:51

But people who are on PIP and income related ESA ( and there are a lot of them ) will receive enhanced benefit rates when they are awarded PIP. A person living alone with no-one claiming carers allowance for them gets an extra £81.90 a week severe disability premium on their ESA claim because they get PIP. This is why PIP is so important to so many- because they not only get the actual PIP money of up to £800 a month but potentially a lot more on top as well.

I thought esa had moved over to uc or is in the process of moving over I get pip and universal credit I didn't know I could claim esa

CharlotteLucas3 · 26/09/2024 15:53

Well it's hardly a new thing. My DS lost his PIP earlier this year after being granted it for three years. They did a sudden review, I had to do a phone assessment and they said he didn't qualify.

EasternStandard · 26/09/2024 15:53

ilovesooty · 26/09/2024 15:27

Have they defined "working people" as "linked to unions"? I must have missed that. Do tell me where that's been stated. In any case almost anyone in employment can join a union.
I'm a pensioner who's still working self employed and part time. I don't think I have to be careful what I wish for, thank you.

There was a full stop there. You can look up their definition if you are interested.

Labour is linked to unions and have already shown priority with payments.

If your sympathy stops for pensioners because you know some people and you don't care about those on basic state pensions who are losing the WFA, then the same lack of sympathy could come round for benefit claimants

Miley1967 · 26/09/2024 15:51

Differentstarts · 26/09/2024 15:43

No it can't their completely separate you can recieve lcwra without pip. Pip has nothing to do with uc

You seem to know an awful lot about your neighbours medical records I guarantee you nobody is getting pip because their back hurts
