To be stung by a wasp at 1.30am

i mean...I think it is bloody unreasonable of the wasp.

I just woke up to a sharp pain in my upper thigh. Thought I had been bitten. Flung off the duvet and put the light on. .. and there's a sodding tiny wasp on the floor.

My leg is on absolute fire now and it really hurts.

I mean ... The middle of the night, in bed, in nearly October and the window is shut. What the hell? I'm in agony and need to go back to sleep as I've got to get up for work in 4 hours. 😭

I've done the vinegar thing but it is still hurting like hell.

Is this an omen? What the HELL?!

Had to share with someone, if anyone is up. Ow...ow...owwww.

If you had the windows closed there might be a nest in your roof.

We had a nest a few weeks ago, I was going to leave them until they all died off naturally but then I remembered that the last time we had a nest they were still appearing in the bathroom as late as December and they are getting past their useful time in late August so got the exterminator in.

£60 very well spent.

Sympathies on getting stung - it really does hurt!

Oh god. I'll have a look in the attic at the weekend. Hope it had just got in earlier as I often do ah e windows open and the bathroom window is open every night to let steam out.
Thanks though..good point 👍🏻

years ago my granny got stung 50+ times by a swarm of wasps next to a big country house near us while walking her dogs. About a year later I was in the exact spot walking my sisters dog with her and I had just said "this is where granny got attacked by wasps" and low and behold I got stung 3 times. Bloody bastards. I feel your pain it's very sore!

That sounds horrendous!

The default state for wasps is 'unreasonable'. Particularly at this time of year when they know their time is up and they're of a "If I'm going down I'm taking every last one of you bastards with me!" state of mind.

We have hornets and dragonflies here which seem to keep the wasp numbers down at least, athough both a rather alarming when you're trying to usher them out of the house.

Nicely put!

Haven't had a lot of wasps and usually see a couple of hornets who love my fig tree but they didn't make an appearance this summer. Unless they kindly popped by while I was on holiday!

It's all a bit odd!

Many years ago there was a wasps nest in my wall in a rented flat. I could hear buzzing when I was in bed and think I was stung then too but not in my sleep. I think I sat on it! The dopey landlord kept saying they'd flown in the window until they ate through the plasterboard and I could see them. I had to just gaffer tape the wall as he wouldn't deal with it!

One October half term went up to bed and there were 52 wasps on the bedroom curtains at my parents' house. Mum got stung but Dad got out the vacuum cleaner and sucked them up. He put sticky tape over the nozzle so they could escape and binned them all the next morning.
Wasps always seemed to like that bedroom, must have been the lovely 1970s pink nylon curtains.

ClockworkDisaster · 25/09/2024 15:29

I feel your itchy pain. I woke up in the middle of the night to 7 mosquito bites

Beamur · 25/09/2024 15:09

Vinegar on wasp stings. Antihistamines and a cold compress for the pain

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/09/2024 15:07

That is not on by the wasp!

I was woken up 3 times by the same spider crawling over my face a few nights ago. Not nice, but preferable to. Wasp sting.

We don't have "carpenter" ants either

Big black ants that eat through wood?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/09/2024 14:43

Different names...
tylenol/paracetemol, I think
cotton balls...cotton wool?
rubbing alcohol...surgical spirit?
(I googled) 🤞

We don't have these things in the UK? Are you in USA?

I got stung at 3am a few years ago. I had got up to see to dd2, it got stuck in my pyjama trousers and I was stung 5 times. It turned out we had a nest in the eaves in the attic.

This happened to me one November in the middle of the night. I had gone to the loo and it was inside the loo roll. I was so lucky it was "only" my finger 😬. It was dark and the sudden sting was so intense, I just whacked it as hard as I could on a towel hanging on the door which splatted the bloody wasp. Horrible.

My poor granny once sat on a wasp on the toilet seat in the middle of the night - she said it was a horrible sting and experience.

I'm going to check my room and duvet for wasps before settling down to sleep.

orangesandlemonssaythebellsofstclements · 25/09/2024 13:31

WTF was it's problem?!!

slowlyswimming · 25/09/2024 13:02

This happened to me a few weeks ago, stung me twice on the leg. I was outraged but then puzzled as to how it got there, all tucked up under the duvet. Very strange.

I do a compress first of a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol, take Tylenol and then ice.
I woke to being bitten on the back of the neck by a spider once (horror) and a carpenter ant back of my knee another time. Not fun. Sympathies. 💐
eta: might also want to take an anti-histamine.

DH found one in his underpants, they had been drying on the line and I put them straight in the underwear drawer. He was not amused, no damage done fortunately.

OhmygodDont · 25/09/2024 07:11

Hate wasps. They sting for no bloody reason. Just walking down the street doing the school run and bang flys out a bush and in my leg. Bastards.

Saw one yesterday putting the washing out and thought fuck sake it’s that time again. They need to be more like bee’s leave us alone we leave you alone.

@OhmygodDont - though to be fair at least it put the washing out for you.

Daddy long legs are completely silent.

You've clearly got poor hearing!
