to think it's fine to not want to date someone because of their job?

According to my friend I am unreasonable. Met a guy on online dating, he said he worked for the council. Didn't go into detail re what until the date. He then told me that he is one of those people that puts parking tickets on cars. Cue me very quickly deciding I don't want to date him.

Personally I think at first date stage you can afford to be picky and can choose not to date someone for whatever reason you want. I don't want to date someone who waits around for someone to go 11 mins over their parking time to shove a ticket on their car.

Friend thinks I'm being daft and 'it's just a job'.

You can choose not to date someone for what ever reason you like. When I was dating prior to DP, I purposefully filtered people out based on their job as I wanted to date another professional.

I have no problem with parking attendants. We have to have them because people are lazy self centred arseholes.

StridingIn · 24/09/2024 19:37

I feel sorry for traffic wardens. A very tough job and not one somebody with other options usually chooses. I am in London and most wardens here are from ethnic minorities and they also have hideous racism directed at them.

I would not think less of someone for doing the job.

I'm so with you OP!!! Absolutely disgusting job 😖

Why is it? If people didn't park like twats, they wouldn't get a ticket.

Actually disgusting jobs are defence lawyers for paedophiles and the like.

SpookyX · 24/09/2024 19:36

I think it's fine.

When I was doing OLD I was certain I'd never go near armed services or police.

I also couldn't date someone who got multiple parking tickets every week this would drive me nuts financially!

Yep, which is why we have separate finances so I don't need to concern myself with it unless he borrows my car. Unlike a person's job, parking tickets is something you find out quite late in a relationship. So cut your losses now, I guess

It's fine not to date someone for whatever reason you want. But you are being a bit silly to harbor these feelings towards parking wardens. Someone needs to do this job or there will be mayhem on our streets. My partner has multiple tickets a week and always has grievances with the wardens when he is the one who can't be arsed to find a proper parking spot.

What was his education level?

It is more sensible to see if this is likely to be a temporary job that he could move away from, or he would be stuck doing it and similar jobs.

I think its absolutely fine to have whatever criteria you wish to have, but accept that other people do too.

Yep, I agree. I wouldn't judge anyone for dating someone who tickets cars, I just don't personally want to.

It’s totally reasonable to not date someone for whatever reason.

BleachedJumper · 24/09/2024 19:29

I think people can have romantic relationships or not for whatever reason they want (consenting adults etc) no one should be obligated to provide a relationship.

Skipsurvey · 24/09/2024 19:28
