Inspired by a recent thread, in which I read multiple posters saying you shouldn't wear mascara on your bottom lashes (which I have been doing for the last 30 years 😂) what has Mumsnet told or taught you you've been doing wrong?

The irritating thing is then I made one eye up as usual and made one up without mascara on the bottom lashes and DH preferred the without eye! Don't even get me started on my inability to make a chicken last a week...

@HauntedbyMagpies I did not know this 😳

You hadn’t heard it because it’s not true! Waste incineration is terrible for the environment.

SatinHeart · 24/09/2024 13:32

Turns out that explaining things to my young DC when out and about is 'performance parenting'. Who knew.

I also stay in my pj's far too long at weekends because no one ever told me how wildly unhygienic pj's are.

The 'needs done' thing made sense to me when the scottish presenter on Homes under the Hammer said it. It's a nice quirk.

Some Americans use it, to the bemusement of other Americans.

Twiglets1 · 24/09/2024 13:29

I don't "cook from scratch" if I can avoid it, who needs all that faff?

ChristmasCookie123 · 24/09/2024 13:28

MN showed me that many women seem to think that women only commit criminal offences due to the actions of men. From shoplifting to child abuse and murder, there are a lot of MNetters that seem to think women are not independently capable of crime or horrific acts and a man must have been the real party responsible or influencing the womans actions at some stage in their lives.

My husband doesn’t have a penis beaker.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 24/09/2024 13:26

Letting my in-laws past the threshold to meet all of their grandchildren in their first week or so of life.

And not only that, I did it happily, without coercion or sulking and without accusing them of being demanding, controlling, of ruining the baby's feeding/sleeping routine, or of bringing on my PND.

I know! Remarkable isn't it?

Butterflycream · 24/09/2024 13:24

I don’t let silly twitter extremists like jk Rowling shape my views about trans people

I've been doing things when they need done, paying bills by direct debit and standing order, and making appointments when I need them. I didn't know that I was supposed to call it life admin, and make a big deal out of how time consuming and stressful it is

I would rather do almost anything than this stuff. I hate it so much. It is mind numbingly boring. Also, I don’t know when people have time to go to the appointments they have booked or be in for the plumber etc. when they have to go to work and make dinner and deal with the children after work. A dentist appointment can create a knock on effect of chaos that lasts until bedtime.

I didn't know till MN that there are apparently adults (there's always one or a few on every thread discussing it) who were so traumatised by discovering that their parents had lied to them about the existence of Father Christmas that they never trusted their parents or any other individuals again and subsequently had a horrible traumatised life unable to trust anyone and would never do that to their or any other children.

Oh god this! I am worried for them as they seem so fragile

unsync · 24/09/2024 13:16

That having a shower when you get up, even if you are going to the gym later, and showering after will blow someone's mind.

Who knew you were supposed to be minging at the gym? Not me. I only learnt this yesterday, everyday is truly a schoolday on MN.

@Hyperbowl , you don't put bleach down the loo, you chuck it.

@EngineEngineNumber9 , and you should shower before and after DTD.

Thanks, noted. 😁

That taking care over spelling and grammar is pointless, and that it doesn't matter if I use the wrong word.

Maybe I'm in a viscous cycle, been high rate and venerable, and need councilling. Anyway, go to go, need to see if anyone has brought my Chester draws and chez lounge.

@PedantScorner - this made me laugh so much. Thank you!

Ineedwinenow · 24/09/2024 13:15

I’ve only read threads on here where everyone hates Mcds and giving kids a happy meal is the equivalent to giving them a line of coke or a syringe full of heroin

AubrieDog · 24/09/2024 13:15

Thinking. Speaking. Having an opinion about anything at all, but particularly if it relates to dogs...😨

If another persons actions bother you, speak up about it, but mind your own damn business while you do it

Might not be for you but is for some of us, phoning around plumbers for two hours with a burst pipe, or trying to cancel sky before they up your bill, realising your health insurance doesn’t cover something you can’t afford, trying to get an appointment for your child that you’ve been waiting for for two years … And some direct debits would be due before payday so we have to phone to pay. Not everyone is in the same position and it is ‘life admin’- I can say eg I’ve cleaning, spreadsheets, gardening, proofing, filing … why can’t I say life admin in relation to bills and appointments?
