Inspired by a recent thread, in which I read multiple posters saying you shouldn't wear mascara on your bottom lashes (which I have been doing for the last 30 years 😂) what has Mumsnet told or taught you you've been doing wrong?

The irritating thing is then I made one eye up as usual and made one up without mascara on the bottom lashes and DH preferred the without eye! Don't even get me started on my inability to make a chicken last a week...

I loved my inlaws
I love a wedding, baby shower, any celebration (but if I can't attend something for whatever reason I have no problem declining without tying myself in knots).
I'm delighted by unexpected guests and don't mind too much if the house is untidy.
I love dogs, cats...all animals!
I have toilet brushes.

I don't hate bleach. Just loo brushes

Ah, OK.

PedantScorner · 24/09/2024 21:43

@Tryonemoretime , duvets usually have channels and these run the length of the duvet. The opening is usually at the base of the duvet cover.

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 24/09/2024 21:42

Tryonemoretime · 24/09/2024 21:39

Please explain this to me. Whichever way I put my kingsize duvet in the cover, it's always the wrong way.

My duvet cover is 220x240 and the quilted lines should be running vertically if that makes sense.

Jukeboxjive · 24/09/2024 21:40

I walk on my floors, which are beautiful and clean and I keep a shoe on my foot.. My guests and visitors are also welcome too..
No one has walked mud or dog muck into my house and we are rarely ill.
Our rugs are beautiful and I have white floors in much of the house. All is well and fine and non of us eat off the floors.

Soditsally · 24/09/2024 17:01

Don't know if this has already been mentioned .. I learned how to fit my king size duvet in the cover the right way round by paying attention to the vertical lines
Never knew this until I saw it here 😂

I've learnt from Mumsnet that I'm weird for preferring warm sunshine to cold torrential rain. I've also learned that small children love nothing more than putting their puddle suits on and going for endless rainy walks, splashing in puddles for hours on end. This is evidenced by the totally deserted playgrounds, parks etc I see on wet days...

Grin I'm weird as well.

You hadn’t heard it because it’s not true! Waste incineration is terrible for the environment.

If we don't have landfill where were the police looking for the gentleman who was suspected of failing asleep in a industrial bin ( purposely not used his name)
I've just come across this comment so you might have already answered

Chickens/mince/shoes. I have not been making a chicken last for six meals. Neither have I made 500g of mince last 4 meals. And neither do I make people take their shoes off before they come in to NOT eat chicken or mince.

Thistooshallpass24 · 24/09/2024 20:51

That it's totally acceptable to talk to strangers about your "bathroom habits" whereas in real life after the age someone else wipes your bum , it's really not ( general chitchat, not a medical worry)

Cosyblankets · 24/09/2024 20:38

I had a destination wedding
I let my dog off the lead in the park.
I don't take my shoes off at the door.

I'll see myself out!

mumsnet has taught me that there is no subject too lighthearted or innocuous that people can’t manage to get in a spat about it

Ha yes. Lighthearted threads sure do turn nasty quickly 😆

BunnyLake · 24/09/2024 20:35

Thisismetooaswell · 24/09/2024 12:48

Each to their own. I don't want a used brush hanging around in my loo. And a cloth is needed anyway for the seat, lid, cistern etc

I use a brush and rinse it by sticking it in the loo and flushing it. I clean the cistern and lid with loo roll so I can flush it away afterwards.

By flushing I mean I give it a ‘shower’ in the loo, I don’t flush the brush away. 😁

SeptemberSunglasses · 24/09/2024 20:30

That you can peel mushrooms. Never knew.

@bringincrazyback you really have stopped me having a good day. I commented on a lightheaded thread, and you decided to have a go at me because it hit a nerve. Do you not have anyone else you can go annoy? There was nothing scathing about my comment

I'm not going to bother replying to you. You're just looking for argument and honestly, you're really not worth anymore of my time

Everything and nothing. From what I've read so far, there are as many opinions that the ways I do things are the wrong ways as there are that I do them all the right ways. Someone will be along shortly to say I shouldn't have started my second sentence with a preposition 😂 And someone to say I shouldn't make assumptions 😂 Someone else will say language has evolved so not to worry about starting with a preposition, another will say it was a prediction, not an assumption.

I have to laugh sometimes at the threads where someone is asking if they should do something and the replies are literally alternating with Yes you should, no you shouldn’t, yes you should, no you shouldn’t. And on it goes for pages and pages. I’m none the wiser and I expect it’s been no help to the OP.

housethatbuiltme · 24/09/2024 20:24

Red Bricks are not better than Poly Techs either.

I went to a Poly Tech and older people (who haven't even gone to uni) sneered at it. My course was full of Red Brick students doing the medical internship and then resitting because their Red Brick did not include the physical experience they needed to actually qualify to become licensed. I can still enter Research fields with my degree as well as practical fields.

Without a license the degree is a pretty useless piece of paper unless you have a magic in with a private institution that has very deep pockets that will straight off hire and fund you for private research.

PedantScorner · 24/09/2024 20:10

I don't tend to get offended about anything much, but on MN it's almost compulsory to take offence at the slightest thing.

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 24/09/2024 20:03

Red Brick means it's a research uni, and many Russell group are part of that. I only know this because I work in recruitment though.

BunnyLake · 24/09/2024 19:54

PinkArt · 24/09/2024 17:57

MN taught me that despite going to uni, having a successful career and hiring many, many people - mostly graduates - in that career, that without going to a Russell Group uni you are doomed to failure. It also taught me that Russell Group unis exist, as I'd never heard of them.
I still don't know which universities are in the group and which aren't, or what makes them better, so have clearly been hiring all wrong for 15 odd years.

I think some people mistake RG for Ivy League. My son put down a RG as first choice because he felt he ought to but got into his non RG insurance and I couldn’t be happier.

I think it basically means it’s a research university but don’t quote me on that.

I still don’t actually know what deep cleaning means tbh!

Me too.

I'm pretty sure I'm not doing it, though!

😳

Els1e · 24/09/2024 19:21

Wash your armpits and bits with soap not shower gel. I miss shower gel 😕

Ihateboris · 24/09/2024 19:16

According to 99.9% of MN, heels are old fashioned and totally impractical. Frankly though, I don't give a shit what other people think and I bloody love wearing high heels for a night out. Oh, I also wear mascara on my lower lashes.
