Colleague showing off about upcoming holiday?

Me and colleague wanted the same week off. She got in there first so annoying but first come first served.

She knows I couldn’t have the time off and yet she won’t shut up about her holiday telling me facts about the country, what she’s going to wear and what facial she’s going to get.

Firstly I wouldn’t give a shit about that in any circumstance (sorry to sound miserable but talk about your holiday or dream I’ll probably zone out). But in this situation aibu to expect her to have a little tact to not blab on about it.

It was the only week I could go as friend I’ve not see since Covid will be there.

(Also please no replies of she got in there first, because I know she did and I don’t have an issue with that part at all, it’s the bragging part that’s frustrating me)

As she had already booked the time off before you asked she may not even know you wanted the same time.
she is probably just excited about her holiday. You just sound jealous.
I love hearing about other people’s holidays and luckily I work with people who get along well and love to listen to what other have planned too. We always chat about holidays at work.

I find attitudes like yours very tiresome. Just because you didn't get your request in first it doesn't mean she now has to be ashamed of her holiday.

Yes because ashamed is definitely not an extreme overreaction.

Other way around I would assume she was probably disappointed she didn’t get her holiday so I wouldn’t be there giving her long lists of what outfits I’m going to wear each day on my holiday. Or providing her random facts of the country I’m visiting.

I bet you're fun at parties

Probably more fun than people who bore others to death about their holidays and saying really outdated painfully unoriginal “comebacks”.

You sound pretty miserable, OP. Maybe you should consider what people are telling you here.

Oh well there you go. Just letting you know but no one gives a shit about your holiday, and most are too polite to tell you to shut up.

I bet you're fun at parties

Hopefully it rains all through her stupid holiday and she gets bitten by a fish!!

My entire workplace chat is us taking it in turns to brag about our upcoming holiday and then everyone asking "are you going on holiday? You hadn't mentioned it " 😆

This. Try to lighten up op or you will start to feel further resentment towards this colleague. Someone had to get in there first.

ChynaS · 27/09/2024 23:04

You really are miserable OP.

I want to hear about @soupfiends holiday and I'm somebody. I'd also like to hear about your friend's. Where's she going? What facial will she be getting, and what's she going to wear?

SAME! I’d never feel bitter about someone being excited. I want to hear it. Also tell me about it when you get back. The poor colleague has done nothing other than being more organised and got in there first!

She’s not going to a wedding in Israel is she?

😂👀

Wow - sounds like you need a holiday or something to remove the chip from your shoulder

Comedycook · 25/09/2024 13:24

I agree with you op

One of the advantages of hybrid working and/or working from home is much less of such annoying behaviour from work colleagues.

drowninginsick · 25/09/2024 13:17

You sound pretty nasty so maybe it's on purpose!

To be fair most people don't have only one week they want to go on holiday if I was her I would assume you just booked for a different time. Totally normal to be excited and talk about an upcoming trip

cheeeesey · 25/09/2024 13:04

"Oh well there you go. Just letting you know but no one gives a shit about your holiday, and most are too polite to tell you to shut up."

Erm. Nope, just you misery guts

TroysMammy · 25/09/2024 13:02

People might like talking about their holidays but it doesn't mean others have to listen to the excessive commentary.

Josephinesnapoleon · 25/09/2024 12:59

Envy is a really bad look op.

I did feel sorry for you, but after the above post, you lost my sympathy.

maybe some people don't give a shit that you were too slow to book the week you wanted🤷🏻‍♀️

Pretty much. Be quicker next time.

Then tell her to shut up. She probably won't bother you again. Win, I guess?

The usual exchange of pleasantries is fine. People talking incessantly about themselves isn't. It's intrusive and it's rude. I am happy to support those who need a supportive ear, but people's holidays, dreams, pet dogs and TV-watching habits are generally not a point of interest to others.

By this thread's standards I'll also be deemed a miserable arse. Fine. I'm also a professional and productive arse who is completely uninterested in engaging in idle or spiteful gossip. To plenty of people those are positives.

YANBU. I find noise-cancelling earphones work like a charm.
