To think all men are like Diddy?

Justcurioushere · 21/09/2024 18:03

With the recent (and not so recent) news surrounding Diddy, I can’t help but reflect on how his behaviour epitomises a troubling pattern I see in some men: selfishness, drama, and a complete lack of accountability (to put it lightly). It makes me wonder if this is a common attitude among men.

AIBU to think that many men, like Diddy, prioritise their own desires over the wellbeing of others? Is this something we should be more critical of, or is it just an unfortunate stereotype?

I don't think all men are diddy men but at least some of them are.

@SpidersAreShitheads

"Sometimes I do wonder about what would happen if you put any man in a position of significant power, control, and influence. I don’t believe that all men would be corrupted by it, but I think an uncomfortable proportion would be. I think there is certainly some who would take full advantage and engage in predatory behaviour. More than we probably like to think."

Spot on.

Exactly, 50+ men all living within a few miles of the victim. If that doesn’t demonstrate what a large proportion of men are capable of if they think they can get away with it there’s no convincing some people. Most willfully ignore the possibility because it’s so horrific.

50 men who have been identified, but at least 80 in total. 30 of them are still out there. Horrifying.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/09/2024 22:35

I'm sorry if I was rude @Hateam I assumed your extreme minimisation of violence against women and girls was wilful.

I'm always astounded when people don't seem to understand. It's an epidemic. It's getting worse and it's not something to be complacent about.

You never truly truly know anyone. The persona they use for you, is different to their work persona away from you, different to their mates from school/college persona. You know the person they show you.

I feel.this argument has its flaws. I've been involved with my partner for a long while; in the course of that - cohabiting, going to his work functions, being out socially with his friends, hearing him talk to his friends on the phone, in recent years, hearing him all day while he works from home ...... It doesn't "compartment" out neatly like that at all.

Over the course of a long period of time, people find it hard to filter and tailor their personality for their cohabiting partner in that way. Especially not if alcohol is ever involved, which it usually is.

You'd have to be very obtuse not to pick up on their full personality, particularly over a long period of time, if you're around them constantly.

In my experience, lots of women do pick up on traits in their partner, but ignore/dismiss/minimise/make excuses for/stick their head in the sand etc about him. Because their want for a partner and family supercedes it (and they believe all men to be sleazy/predatory/dick led/base etc.anyway, so they think they won't get different or better ...and they've got their window to grab a partner and maybe marry and have kids, while everyone else is doing it and they don't want left out or left behind).
If older when they discover things, they don't want to face old age alone.

Other women don't really pick up on traits, because they project how they think & feel .... and because they're not predatory, base, sex oriented etc. etc. they can't imagine what it is like to be so. They are extremely naive in a way.

Edited

You're coming across as victim blaming. Geisel for example, has no idea what her husband was doing. How could she? They had been together for decades and she never assumed he was drugging and raping her.

Many women have found themselves with predatory men and never realised. Some people are very good actors.

@Hateam the Met police thinks it's above 14% of men who are dangerous to women in a lawful, civilised democracy. In Gisele's case it works out to around 4% of the surrounding men. That would rape an unconscious woman. Catholics spokesmen were saying somewhere between 1-3% of men were pedophiles FFS.

Even a misogynist can do some simple maths, surely.

I was happy to engage in civilised debate but as you're not I'll leave you to it.

Enjoy your evening.

HazelPlayer · 21/09/2024 21:26

after being encouraged to behave like this by the 'producers'

Sean Coombes has done pretty well in life, as a rapper, producer, actor, head of a large merchandising endeavour etc etc for some who apparently has no independent brain, judgement or self determination.

🙄

She is truly amazing.
To have found the strength to go public so this utter scum could be named.
She is an absolute hero.
I felt very emotional watching a clip of her being spontaneously clapped by the public.
I pray that she will be able to move on from this.
I feel desperately sorry for her children...imagine knowing you share his DNA.

I'll go with under 3%.

My husband?
He is not....
He's the only man in my life, also three decades older.

So what did you mean by "In a nutshell, yes." 😳

LonelyInDville · 21/09/2024 21:01

I think a lot of men at least think/feel like P Diddy. I have quite a few mails acquaintances and the way they talk about women, even the married/partnered ones, is very eye opening.

The number of men in a quiet French village who wanted to rape an unconscious woman is scary.

This isn't someone wealthy and famous seducing vulnerable women into abuse.

This is ordinary men - brothers, husbands, fathers, sons - who wanted and chose to rape an unconscious woman. And did so, and continued with their ordinary lives without remorse.

You need the know better men. Mine are about as far from this sleazebag as you could

As says every women who swear not her Henry. He wouldn’t cheat on her. Doesn’t have the time. Despises cheaters. Was cheated on by an ex

Not going to happen here. 35 years, looking forward to retirement and a new lease of life together.
Our son is a good and gentle soul. I know because we brought him up. His sister is good, too.

Oh I know a sicko when I meet one because I was physically and sexually abused by my father and by my brother. I’ve learned, despite them, that good men do exist and mine are good men.

What about the 'family men' who raped the unconscious Gisele Pelicot?

Wouldn't they have said the same about their husbands/ brothers/sons? Because they were perfectly normal and caring husbands / brothers / sons

It’s naive at best to believe that your Henry never ever possibly could be that person.
It’s fine to hope and think he wouldn’t be, but to be the person who would swear blind not theirs because I don’t have around with those types is silly.

I swear blind and I’m far from “silly”. A finely honed radar from around 3 years old.
There is such a thing as a good man.

Fair enough.

I honestly think that if I believed all men capable of abuse, cheating, etc - I’d have to just stay single and avoid them altogether.

I honestly can’t imagine spending my relationship feeling always at potential risk.

Fortunately for me I guess, I’m a “not my Henry Nigel whoever” kinda woman, otherwise I’d have to just be alone!

I think a very large number of men would like to be more promiscuous than they actually are.

I think quite large number to men would be unfaithful if they had the opportunity.

I think a tiny number to men are like P Diddy.

It's not tiny.

How many people would commit a crime any crime if they thought they could get away with it. Be it stealing a Mars bar, to robbing a back or hell murder. A lot more people than you’d like to believe would do it

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 21/09/2024 20:19

I honestly don't think we want to know how many men would behave just like him if they were given his opportunities.

I’m confused by this idea.

Do women who think that Nigel/Henry/Gary are (or could be) cheating predators HAVE one at home that they don’t ever fully trust?

Poor Nigel and Henry if so.

Choochoo21 · 21/09/2024 20:18

A lot of men are, but not all men are.

There definitely seems to be a theme with rich, famous/powerful men.

Either

Most men are secretly like this but they don’t have the influence/power to act how they really want to act.

Or

They turn this way because of the money/fame/power and they get a God complex.

Or

They already had this God complex and that’s what has made them so successful.

If everyone was an open book nobody would be shocked if cheated on, abused, stolen from, about sexual predators because we would all already know they are all like that.
