To volunteer for the Milano Winter games at 34?

I’m thinking about applying to volunteer for the Milano Winter Games at 26. By then, I’ll be 34 and I’m wondering if that’s too old or if it’s still a good age to get involved. I’d love to hear if anyone has experience volunteering for big events like this or if you’ve done something similar in your 30s or beyond. Any advice or thoughts?

Go for it! I've been a volunteer in Paris for the Olympic and Paralympic games this year and it was such an incredible experience. I met volunteers of all ages

I’m the same age as you, we might be too old to start an Olympic snowboarding career but don’t get why we would be too old to point tourists around!

My aunt was helping exhausted rowers out of boats, bringing them kit etc at London 2012 at the age of 54. When I went to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games there were loads of older volunteers. 34 is nothing!

They need volunteers for all sorts of tasks - some of which have no age limitations really.

I know someone from the UK who volunteered for the World Nordic Skiing championships at the age of 56 and spent 10 days at or around the ski jumping hill.

Do it! My friend did it in Rio and loved it.

My sister did it in Rio too, met her now DP there.

I've done Commonwealths and some World Champs stuff. Planning to do more as it's been great. I'm late 30s and have found I'm on the younger end of the demographic for volunteers, so go for it!

Why on earth would you think 34 would be too old to volunteer?
I had to read twice to check you weren't talking about competing!

Thank you all for the encouragement! I’ve just realised I’m actually a year off - I’ll be 33, not 34, by the time the games happen. My birthday’s in March.

Fair point! I guess I just overthink sometimes, but you’re right - volunteering at 34 (or 33, as I’ve now realised!) is definitely not too old.

I'm in my late 50s and volunteer at major sporting events. Why on earth do you think you'd be too old in your early 30s?

My late dad was a Gamesmaker at London 2012 at the ripe old age of 67. Go for it.

FIL volunteered at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He was 70.
