Family member awarded enhanced pip - AIBU?

My family member has just been awarded enhanced pip in both living and mobility components.
Shes told me that she’s twisted the truth during the assessment and told the assessor that she has lots of pain and can’t really walk at all, but she walks all the time as I see her out and about - we live in a hilly area. I know people who are in a wheelchair and struggle to get enhanced rate - so I really don’t understand how she’s managed this.
I know people will say mind your own business but she’s told me she’s actually lied to them.

They are taking benefit cash out of the bank though which cannot be accounted for.

Edited

Who pays cash for anything any more? It’s all done via bank or card payments.

Mind you, as a lot of PIP claimants work you’d have a hard time monitoring what their PIP vs their salary is used for.

Who decides what is or isn’t appropriate use of the money though? You’ve not even begun to think this through. How do I know? My job includes monitoring people who use Direct Payments for social care services. You have no idea the amount of resources that go into monitoring it. It would make your whole crazy scheme not worth a single damn penny.

It is more about having a cashless benefit system that can be audited at any time. Not necessarily about what is justified more about stopping benefits being taken out as cash, stashed or sent abroad.

That is fine but non of that needs cash it can all be paid via a bank transfer or debit card and is accounted for.

You're completely right you know. It makes perfect sense to create an entire new army of jobsworths, combing through everyone's bank account, sending out an alert because Doris has taken out £20 to give her carers the money to nip down the shop for a pint of milk. That'll definitely save the country money...

Good news is that PIP isn’t awarded on diagnosis, it’s awarded on functional abilities. HTH.

She hasn’t been asked for any clinical evidence from her doctor.

This is surprising as IME you have to send evidence?

But then we need to also know how the landlords are spending the taxpayers money they receive!

Good point. I hope none of the bosom hoikers on here are landlords. Chances are, some of my hard earned tax paying money is going to you. I would like someone to audit to make sure you’re meeting your statutory obligations.

I forgot students! We should definitely stop all student loans. They can have vouchers and any housing costs paid directly to the landlords. It sounds soooooooo easy to implement too! 😉

And who has got time to audit over 3 million accounts 🤣🤣

that in itself would cost the tax payer millions

The thing with PIP at the moment is that, in theory, you don’t actually need any diagnosis or medical evidence…..they very rarely contact your GP …..it’s all based on what you tell them you can and can’t do, with regard to the descriptors…..they either go with what you are telling them or don’t……I have medical evidence but lots don’t….there are changes afoot, these will likely be made public at the November Autumn Statement …..there’s talk of the need for a medical diagnosis and medical evidence ……and stopping a cash handout , instead providing free services ….who knows 🤷‍♀️…..but guessing it will be harder to claim for some….I’m just hoping they leave me alone until my current award runs out in 2027

Absolutely true, they request information from an absolutely miniscule amount of claimants, most of the time the GP doesn't even reply.

There's also no requirement to have any medical evidence at all.

@20yearrenovation

They receive Government money which should be able to be accounted for to stop abuse of the system.

So everyone who gets child benefit, universal credit, a state pension etc etc should do the same then?

Not state pension that is a payment linked to contributions.

Public servants are employed to do a job for the Government not the same as benefit claimants.

Pension credit, yes.

I believe all businesses should be cashless too.

It’s not paid by cash it’s paid to bank account which can be monitored if needed

Bet it’s some fancy new car too isn’t it. 😩🧐

Sadly not. One is a heap of shite and the other one is currently needing something fixed so isn't driveable. But still it's nice to say I have 2 cars 😂

The whole point of DLA /PIP is that its non means tested and can ve used for anything that benefits the recipient, be that paying for a bill ,getting some food shopping ,or paying for a spa weekend .

That is fine but non of that needs cash it can all be paid via a bank transfer or debit card and is accounted for.

Technonan · 19/09/2024 17:58

I don't have a goat but I do have 3 small children so that's kind of the same. Oh I forgot I'm not allowed to have children when I claim benefits. Better not tell anybody I'm pregnant with a 4th either...

Daltonbear1 · 19/09/2024 17:57

The only thing that should change in my view as someone that gets enhanced pip on both and that uses it to pay for carers and mobility scooter every month is that if you don’t need to pay for extra stuff ie car to help you get about, carers or any other stuff as I do know of a couple of folks that don’t use it for extra help then 8 would argue you r not disabled enough. Now I do know that they want to try and see whee peopel are using it maybe that’s a good point because I am not sure why some do need their money if not using it to cover extra costs

Agree. We should definitely absolutely 100% do the same with child benefit and the state pension.
Fuck the kids and fuck the old people - I want to know how they are spending my money!
