Why would someone keep an empty envelope?

To ask why a person would keep an open but empty envelope with their name on the front. They haven't mistakenly kept it. I know this because it has been deliberately moved from its original place and hidden in a new place while they were tidying up.

I keep every card and envelope my granny gives me

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 18/09/2024 16:45

I presume that the handwriting isn’t your husband’s. Therefore I assume that it has some sentimental value, and he doesn’t want you to know about it.

Rickrolypoly · 18/09/2024 16:41

what a non event- Holy shit, have you nothing else to occupy your time.

This wouldn't even register with me.

Fluufer · 18/09/2024 16:40

Maybe he was just fiddling with it while putting the photos away? Unless it's an uber special envelope, and there are major details you are omitting, I can't imagine I would have even noticed the same envelope twice.

redtrain123 · 18/09/2024 16:40

I would assumed to keep the address, until I saw the update.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 18/09/2024 16:39

Good grief, you clearly think it means something - what?

angellinaballerina7 · 18/09/2024 16:23

Does it matter?

Isn't it pretty obvious that it matters? Why do you think the OP has started a thread if she's not bothered?

Assuming hes not just absent mindedly moved it I'd assume sentimental value of some sort

Garedenhelp · 18/09/2024 16:38

I would have said forwriting shopping lists on but after your update about photos, I assume it's to separate some photos into, maybe to pass to a family member or to take somewhere like for his desk at work. What is your concern?

It's clearly imbued with magical properties, be careful you don't open the envelope under a full moon OP, it could be a portal to another dimension.

Like Narnia.
Paper made from a the wood pulp of a magic apple tree.

PinkyFlamingo · 18/09/2024 16:31

I'm guessing they're must be something else you're suspicious or worried about you're not telling us about him?

oakleaffy · 18/09/2024 16:31

takealettermsjones · 18/09/2024 16:03

I have a post it note with my name on (amongst other words of course) in a deceased relative's handwriting. Maybe something like that?

Exactly. I kept envelopes that had sentimental value.

Are you thinking it might be from an old flame?

It has been hidden inside a packet of printed photos.

If it’s hidden away with photos it is obviously sentimental.

Gogosmarty · 18/09/2024 16:27

How about he had some photos printed. Did nowt much with them. Re-found them and stuck them in the envelope he had kept from the time that Sarah, his boss at the office, had left one time on his desk containing a key to the secret room of mysteries that could only be entered via the accessible toilet on the third floor. He used the key, but the gorgon that lived within, swallowed it, and almost your DH too. He escaped with his life, but kept the envelope as a reminder to himself never to trust women called Sarah or to borrow their magic keys.
It's the only explanation.

adayofsuns · 18/09/2024 16:25

Could be from his mother or grandmother if she passed, or something innocuous like that.

bifurCAT · 18/09/2024 16:24

I would do this if it was a lost family member or lost love. Just to have something of them.

I'm guessing it's hand-written? This is a sentimental keepsake.

Or he's a hoarder!

SidekickSylvia · 18/09/2024 16:24

I would guess it has sentimental value. Like previous posters, I've kept an envelope with my name on because it's the last thing written to me by them (my late grandma). Is it from someone who is no longer in his life?

viques · 18/09/2024 16:24

Maybe there was something small and apparently insignificant
inside the envelope, like a hair , which had a meaning for the envelope owner.

You didn’t notice the hair, it’s gone now, the envelope is meaningless.

Well done.

angellinaballerina7 · 18/09/2024 16:23

Does it matter?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 18/09/2024 16:23

Ask him.

takealettermsjones · 18/09/2024 16:20

What is your concern about it OP?

dontcallmelen · 18/09/2024 16:20

Probably best if you ask him OP, my Dh has an old envelope which I had had written my name & telephone number on the night me met, we’ve been married 45years so could be all manner of reasons possibly sentimental or not hope the explanation doesn’t upset you.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/09/2024 16:19

Why won't you say what it is you're so paranoid/concerned about?

LonginesPrime · 18/09/2024 16:19

Could there be something written on the inside of the envelope that he wants to keep?

Could it be that he was looking through the photos and used the envelope as a bookmark to remember where he was up to, or to separate the photos into two sets (e.g. those to keep and those to scrap, given they're from a camera roll)?

Anothernamebite · 18/09/2024 16:18

There are photos of me, photos of DD, some family shots.

OP posts:
LaineyCee · 18/09/2024 16:17

I keep old envelopes for scrap paper (to jot down shopping lists, use as bookmarks etc.) The only way you’ll know why this person has kept this particular envelope is if you ask them.

(The true crime fan in me has loads of utterly improbable suggestions- fingerprints, DNA on seal)
