Why would someone keep an empty envelope?

To ask why a person would keep an open but empty envelope with their name on the front. They haven't mistakenly kept it. I know this because it has been deliberately moved from its original place and hidden in a new place while they were tidying up.

Is the envelope the same size as the photos?

Alondra · 18/09/2024 17:05

Why is an empty envelope so important to you that you posted about it?

I don't get it.

MounjaroUser · 18/09/2024 17:05

Can you tell who addressed the envelope? Was it typed or handwritten?

thebrollachan · 18/09/2024 17:04

Set up nannycam.

Loosely screw up mystery envelope and place in the nearest bin, on top of the other rubbish so it can easily be found.

Carefully observe his actions.

MarkingBad · 18/09/2024 17:04

Place holder for a photo he particularly likes?

I had an empty envelope for years doing sterling work just keeping something marked for me.

Could be anything, I'd ask him.

Pallisers · 18/09/2024 17:03

It's a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

I keep old envelopes for shopping lists.

greengreyblue · 18/09/2024 17:02

It must be written by someone he cared about. You’re obviously worried he has cheated.

Claricestarling1 · 18/09/2024 17:01

I’ve kept an empty envelope as my dad gave me some holiday spending money inside it, and that’s the last thing he ever gave me ☺️

What meticulous lengths? Folded it up?

Folded it up and put it inside a pack of photos. That's sounds like a conscious, deliberate act for something that on the face of it has no reason to be kept.

RafaFan · 18/09/2024 16:59

First day cover? Could be worth a bit in the future.

Smartiepants79 · 18/09/2024 16:59

I can’t imagine living in a world where I would even notice this let alone be curious enough about it to post it on the internet.
What do you think is his reasons?? The photos sound totally innocent? Just you and your family? Not some random woman or secret love child??

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/09/2024 16:57

@Anothernamebite - there could be some sentimental reason why the envelope has been kept, or it could just be that your dh picked up the envelope, meaning to throw it away, but was side tracked by the photos and absentmindedly put the envelope in with them when he put them back in the packet.

When mum died, and we were going through her sewing chest, we found an empty paper bag folded up in a pile of fabric - absent mindedness is the only reason we could think of for it to be there.

Well that depends entirely on who wrote the name on the envelope and who went to meticulous lengths to save it, doesn't it? You don't have much imagination if you can't see why this potentially might be an issue for the OP.

Of course it could be nothing worth worrying about at all and she's being paranoid, but without more detail we can't know.

It has been hidden inside a packet of printed photos.

It has been put inside a packet of printed photos. It has not necessarily been hidden.

Nope- honestly wouldn't even register with me, but then again I'm not suspicious of my husband.

Anothernamebite · 18/09/2024 16:14

Yes, it is my husband, my husband's name written on the front.
Now the envelope is inside a packet of photos, photos that I had never seen printed before, random photos from his photo stream from seven years ago. Yes I will ask him but wanted to get some ideas first.

Who is in the photos? What are they of? Are they old or recent? Does he usually get photos printed out these days? Who wrote his name on the envelope and where was its 'original place' that he moved it from?

And why are you concerned about any of this?

BobbyBiscuits · 18/09/2024 16:53

Could it be used for collecting money, and for some reason they just keep using the same one? It might be some kind of aide memoire to help them remember to do something?
Or the only remnants they have of a lamented love lost many years ago. Who knows?

MasterBeth · 18/09/2024 16:53

BabyofMine · 18/09/2024 16:12

People still print out photos??

Yes. Of course.

When we take and keep so many photos digitally, it makes printed photos more special.

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 18/09/2024 16:51

My friend used to keep opened envelopes "because they had her name on"

She was and still is a clutter bug.

But this sounds different and odd.

Rickrolypoly · 18/09/2024 16:41

what a non event- Holy shit, have you nothing else to occupy your time.

This wouldn't even register with me.

SonjaBarkerFinch · 18/09/2024 16:49

What are you suspicious of?

Would your husband police you if he found you had an envelope with your name written on it?

Theotherone234 · 18/09/2024 16:49

Could be to put some of the photos in? To separate them from the others? Maybe wants to give some to his sister/mum/aunty and doesn't want to use the packet they came in so the envelope is being reused for that?

TwigletsAndRadishes · 18/09/2024 16:48

Anothernamebite · 18/09/2024 16:10

I wasn't searching for the envelope, I noticed the new packet of photos so looked at them, then noticed the envelope.

Whoever has folded it up and kept it with a pack of photos has some sentimental attachment to it. Who is in the photos? Your partner's ex? Someone you think he has a crush on?

LonginesPrime · 18/09/2024 16:47

They haven't mistakenly kept it. I know this because it has been deliberately moved from its original place and hidden in a new place while they were tidying up.

Sounds like his idea of tidying up is putting things away neater than they were, rather than actually considering whether that thing actually needs to be kept.

When you look at the area he was tidying, it will look tidier, but he has simply moved the rubbish around and/or hidden it away in places it fits, as envelopes and photos are of similar sizes.

REP22 · 18/09/2024 16:45

Maybe it's in the handwriting of a person they loved that is no longer with them. I keep gift tags and cards for that reason. If it's a comfort to them why does it matter (unless their hoarding is a major issue)?
