Did you know who Cat Deeley was before she joined This Morning?

When Cat Deeley became presenter of This Morning earlier this year I had not heard of her before, some of my friends are surprised that I did not know who she was. (We are all in our 40's by the way) I knew who Holly Willoughby was though.

Am I weird in never having heard of her before?

She also presented CDUK which was on straight afterwards - that wasn’t specifically a kids show (and no I was usually still at the rave or the after party at 11am, Time Team was my post-rave tv show).

I used to watch Cat and Edith Bowman on Hitlist UK on MTV in the late 90s.

Everyone saying "what you're 40s and didn't watch smtv" were all watching it when they got home from raves right?

You were 20 something watching kids TV so there'd better be some excuse Grin

I do not watch Breakfast TV and have never heard of her. Last time I saw it Selina Scott was presenting.

Maybe when they were younger but they look more evenly matched now.

Not at all, I think they're pretty evenly balanced tbh. She's pretty but not drop dead gorgeous. They were friends for years before they got together romantically. I think that's a far more sound basis for a marriage than looks!!

Toptops · 17/09/2024 21:49

I still haven't heard of her.
Wrong age probably.

So do you think that marriage is all about what potential spouses look like on the surface and nothing else comes into play at all?

Bonjovispjs · 17/09/2024 21:36

Of course, she's been around for years.

How can you possibly say that unless you know them both very well? And even if you do know them closely, you still aren't in their heads, knowing and sharing their feelings.

HeySummerWhereAreYou · 17/09/2024 21:26

Patrick Kielty is cute! And Cat is too. He's not super handsome and she's not beautiful, but they are both quite attractive. They go well together, and neither one is punching above their weight!

I'm fairly old and I knew who she was, but she had been in USA for work for a good while.

How dare someone call Patrick Kielty an ugly Irish man, what a cuntish thing
to say.

Actually he's good looking.

RetirementIsGreat · 17/09/2024 19:26

I know her from So You Think You Can Dance.

Tarkan · 17/09/2024 03:24

I'm 43 and I was only 17 when SMTV and CD:UK started so of course I wasn't hungover when watching it at first. Hahahahaha

I won one of the CD:UK competitions when I was 19. I only entered because they always did a goody bag of all the acts that were on and I was really into U2 at rhe time who were on the show that week. But the competition was for a 50CC motorbike-ride scooter, only open to those 18+ and it ended up being no goody bag! Even worse was the following week when I tuned in to see my name announced and they just didn't do it. It was like that competition hadn't existed and yes it still annoys me now (especially when I see Ant and Dec on TV 🤣).

The bike was worth a couple of thousand though and I got a helmet and accessories included too. Ended up keeping it in a hangar at a local marine base as I didn't have a licence yet and my neighbour would take me up there for me to practise. I don't have great balance though and I soon realised it wasn't for me so I sold everything a couple of years later and went on holiday to France with the money.

I always felt at the time when Cat moved on that Holly Willoughby always seemed to be there instead as if she had just replaced her and I think some people did forget about Cat because of that.

Autumnalleaves123 · 17/09/2024 03:14

Yea I loved her on SMTV when I was younger. My fav weekend show. She then went onto present so you think you can dance in America. It was a huge show in the 00s and 10s. Obviously now she's back here

EconomyClassRockstar · 17/09/2024 02:17

Yes. She literally grew up with Ant and Dec. She's pretty well known in the US too as she's been hosting So You Think You Can Dance for about 17 years.

Orangeandgold · 17/09/2024 01:21

Yes! She was my childhood

Clearinguptheclutter · 16/09/2024 21:17

Smtv!!
she was everywhere in it must have been late 90s and early 00s. But then disappeared for most of what must be 20 years.
I’m 46

NapTrappedAgain · 16/09/2024 21:11

Pleased to see everyone else has already mentioned Cat the Dog, CHUMS and Wonky Donkey.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Anty and Decky the Bill and Ben parody yet I don’t think. Looked it up and Cat Deeley played Prozac the Giggle-Fairy apparently. I was one of the younger SMTV live viewers on the thread so I didn’t get that reference watching as a child!

Also Fame Academy and Stars in their Eyes. Basically Cat Deeley was around for a lot of my childhood so yes I knew her before This Morning.

Zanatdy · 16/09/2024 21:08

Yes I’ve known her for years

lemonyellows · 16/09/2024 21:05

@Itisjustmyopinion I agree. I'm in my 50s and we used to watch SMTV in our house share in our 20s. Perfect hangover cure

PuddledDuck · 16/09/2024 21:02

I always remember her as Cat the Dog from Birmingham!
and CHUMS
How I would love to go back to those days of Saturdays morning tv in PJs.

What a cunt you must be with comments like that.

SMTV live, stars in their eyes etc.
Although TBF to the OP, SMTV live was more for those who are now late 30s than those of us in our 40s.

Speak for yourself. I am mid 40s and would always wake up (often hungover) for a bit of Cat the Dog and Wonky Donky
