To be absolutely sick of excuses being made for men's disgusting sexual behaviour? Trigfer warning. Hugh Edwards sentencing.

Just read that Hugh Edwards ahs been given a suspended sentence.

And if course it's not his fault. He had a mean Daddy and some mental health issues and some bad things going on in his life, poor lamb.

All that made him say 'amazing' when sent photos of children as young as 7 being molested.

Having a rough time and a strict father doesn't make you a fucking paedophile!!!

Take responsibility for your predatory and vile behaviour!!

Who are you talking to?

TheOliveGoose · 17/09/2024 13:03

YellowphantGrey · 17/09/2024 12:51

Are you confused? You said this

Women on mumsnet railing on and on about how awful men are doesn't help either

You then say this

Whatever. Just don't feel that you can speak for people who have actually been through their children being abused and talk about 'helping' us

So if going on about men doesn't help, why does going on about women committing crimes help?

There's no difference to what I've said from what you're saying. I'm saying women don't need to be bought into it whenever a man commits a crime and they don't need their crimes minimising

However you can't say that saying a male is bad for being a paedophile because that is excusing that behaviour and people can be angry at the man committing the crime.

Bringing the opposite sex doesn't help and only inflames the situation

None of it 'helps' me as the parent of a child that suffered abuse.

I didn't like you bringing 'if your child was abused' into the conversation when you haven't got a clue what it would feel like if your child was abused or what would 'help' if your child was abused. Using it like some kind of trump card to shut people down when you actually don't know is in poor taste and 'inflames' the situation.

Women who tell other women to stop calling out endemic male violence towards women and children need to take a long-hard look at themselves.

I just don't understand the thought process behind the ridiculous whataboutery. Violence against women and children is overwhelmingly perpetrated by men. We only have a chance of solving that problem if we see it for what it is.

FOJN · 17/09/2024 12:58

No castration, no hanging them, I say bring back the stocks in the town centre so we can throw rotten food and mock these sick fuckers. Probably won't shame them into stopping, but the people affected by the crimes might get something from it.

I've always thought a sick fuckers colony surrounded by water and without internet access might be a solution.

I have no interest in them being mistreated as a form of punishment. I don't think they believe they are doing anything wrong, they just know that society thinks they are doing something wrong.

I think by the time they are abusing children or creating a market which requires children to be abused they are broken beyond repair and the only thing we can do is to make sure they never have the opportunity to offend again.

If some deluded people want to make it their life's work to fix them then they can crack on as long as they use their own children as the test subjects for the efficacy of any treatment program, with the understanding they too will be sent to the sick fuckers colony if they get it wrong. That should focus a few minds.

For some reason men are always walking away from court with suspended stentences for having thousands of images of child abuse on their computers. It’s almost as if they don’t class it as a crime. Write an offensive tweet -it’s a different story!

One got a suspended sentence last year and he had 160,000 images including over 5000 Cat A.

Whatever. Just don't feel that you can speak for people who have actually been through their children being abused and talk about 'helping' us.

My daughter was abused for 5 consecutive years.
So, as deeply sorry as I am for you and your child's horrible experience, a walk I share with you as the parent of a victim, I feel totally helped and supported by the many voices on this thread calling out male abusers.
You want to turn this into a male v. female bun fight.
Well, you're silencing your own voice.
Abusers abuse and they can be men and women.
But today, right here, right now, allow us this safe space to really lean into the topic of the post.
If you want to talk loud, by all means, talk loud. If female-led abuse is something you feel passionate about, start a thread. Be the voice of justice. But let women like me read and post and be part of something on this thread that gives me a sense of strength, something I often lack.

SerafinasGoose · 17/09/2024 12:33

Women do do it too. The misconception that this never happens can be a dangerous one. However.

The percentage of women committing this type of crime is minuscule compared to the violent and sexual crime statistics pertaining to men. Men are the overwhelmingly majority offenders. The problem, whilst not exclusively men, is almost always men.

It's beyond sickening that on every thread - every thread, without exception - another little prairie dog will bob its head over the parapet to remind us that 'women do it too'.

So fucking what? This thread, the many threads created when yet another man has committed an abhorrent crime against women and children, is talking about yet another crime committed by yet another man. Want a thread about female offences and rates of offending? By all means start one. See how much traffic you get.

The overwhelming majority of victims of sexual assault are women. I am sick to the back teeth of having these experiences dismissed and minimised. It's bad enough when a society set up to serve men's ends constantly fails to view women as even human or believe us when we tell it we've been raped. The few of us who do get to court are then violated a second time by a legal system biased in favour of the male offenders. Now, on a support site geared at a women's demographic, with necessary and much-needed discussion of how men's criminal behaviour affects us, this is being minimised with constant reminders that a tiny number of women are also perpetrators, and that we're not giving enough consideration to the Mighty Penis.

I want @MNHQ to start coming down far, far harder on these tedious, offensive trolls. (And trolling is precisely what they're doing, in the old-fashioned definition of that term). The majority view on these threads is clear: the prairie dogs can fuck off back into their burrows. And take the bleats of NAMALT, Not My Nigel, and 'What About The Men' with you. (Incidentally, talking in slogans like this is very much a giveaway as to who and what you are).

This isn't an MRA site.

If he has small vessel disease he has a mental health condition. It's not a "card". That doesn't mean I'm minimising the offence he's committed. I'm just pointing out what was in the sentencing report.

voiceofastar · 17/09/2024 12:51

A woman was complicit in sexually abusing me when I was a child.

This doesn't take away from the fact that the VAST, VAST majority of people who perpetrate sexual abuse and sexual assault are men. Despite experiencing it myself, I would never come onto a thread spouting 'women do it too' unless someone was explicitly claiming that women never do it. Everyone here is aware that women also commit crimes, including sexual crimes. What do the 'women do it too' brigade actually think they are achieving by trotting out such an obvious statement? The female sexual offending rate is a drop in the ocean compared to males, and this rightly needs to be prioritised.

Pinkchicken75 · 17/09/2024 12:47

how arrogant did he look as he came out , people get jailed for fraud & yet here we are with the Mental Health card being banded about & he get a suspended sentence. Shocking.

It's not about railing on about how awful men are, it's about that no man can commit a crime and have it spoken about without someone coming on saying "women are just as bad"

Why does this need to be said?

No one ever does on threads where a woman has committed a crime. No one ever comes on and says "oh its not all women"

Women get vilified on here and in the press for the crimes they commit. Men get excused and protected and their crimes minimised.

@YellowphantGrey the irony of these women anxious to defend men is how often a woman is murdered by their own son or partner

Yet someone will still say it's not all men

I genuinely wonder how many of them are in abusive relationships and don't know it as it's their normal?

Who gives a shit that HE 'might be at risk of taking his own life?' I honestly couldn't care less if he topped himself and in fact he would be doing the world a favour.

Millions of people have a strict father (try growing up with a military Dad, Huw) and didn't get into Oxford. They've all somehow managed to not indulge in child sex abuse.

TheOliveGoose · 17/09/2024 12:21

YellowphantGrey · 17/09/2024 12:01

But it happens on every single post where a man has committed a crime. Someone has to come on and point out that we can't be angry at men because men do it too.

But it never happens on a post about a woman who has committed a crime does it?

Even on the post about Gisele Pelicot being raped by 70 men, it was full of women wringing their hands and desperate to point out that women are just as bad.

We've got to stop minimising men's criminal activity by watering it down with "women do it too"

If your child was raped or assaulted by a man and you were angry, would it help someone saying "it's ok, women do it too"

Women do commit crimes however everytime I turn the news on lately, the assaults, the rapes and the murders are being committed by men.

Men really don't need you on their side, the world is designed for them

He was never going to get a stiffer sentence than the one handed out to the man who sent him the images. He also has to do a sex offending course and will be on the sex offenders register for seven years. He will be punished and humiliated by his reputation being ruined and being defined by society by the offences he has committed. There would be no purpose in sending him to prison.

All while living on his nice large BBC pension and the large salary he was paid while suspended ....

Portakalkedi · 17/09/2024 12:14

Sadly as with many other things these days, the catchall phrase 'mental health' is uttered, which forestalls most negativity and criticism (and insults those with real mental health issues).
