To be absolutely sick of excuses being made for men's disgusting sexual behaviour? Trigfer warning. Hugh Edwards sentencing.

Just read that Hugh Edwards ahs been given a suspended sentence.

And if course it's not his fault. He had a mean Daddy and some mental health issues and some bad things going on in his life, poor lamb.

All that made him say 'amazing' when sent photos of children as young as 7 being molested.

Having a rough time and a strict father doesn't make you a fucking paedophile!!!

Take responsibility for your predatory and vile behaviour!!

I think that the siding with men /dominant group thing is mostly unconscious, ie people following their impulses without examining their behavior.
Many people are not given to reflecting on or examining their behaviour or feelings.

Incredible!!
But why?.....

Self preservation. Siding with the ones with the most power and showing similar attitudes in the hope of keeping themselves safe

It has to be either a 'pick me' or 'crocodile will eat you last' scenario.

Perhaps it gives the comforting illusion that visibly supporting the more powerful demographic will somehow rescue them from suffering at its hands in some way and at some time.

Bad news. It won't.

You see it with bullies in school - a clutch of hanger-ons who are frightened of the bully and support them to avoid being victimised themselves

I was sexually abused at 5 by a teen girl on a few occasions, in my 20s suffered numerous sexual assaults in bars from men and was raped twice by the same man, of course I’m bothered. What I was getting at is yours or anyone’s surprise at people wanting to say that there are men who don’t do this when you gun for the whole of the male sex. You make a point of searching threads for anyone who says hold on, stop lumping everyone in together, you are actively searching for these arguments, just don’t be surprised when some want to defend any sons or husbands they know.

So you were sexually abused by a teen girl? You do know that it's not all teen girls and that men do it too? My younger sister would never do that, I can't believe your lumping all teen girls as abusers.

Doesn't really help does it?

It doesn't help the other way round either which is the point I've made and the point you spectacularly chose to miss.

However when it comes to sex crimes, 98% of those crimes, including rape, are carried out by men compared to the 2% carried out by women.

Therefore when someone comes on and points out that women are just as bad, it doesn't really stack up when there's a huge, huge difference in numbers.

Likewise, defending the males on your family is natural, however because of the statistics, I'm more likely to be attacked and I don't know which male will attack me. I've got to trust it won't be my husband or my son but I've got to take appropriate precautions for anyone outside of my family.

How often do you hear people saying "well I never thought he would do that, he was such a lovely kind man" men can groom those around them and be the loveliest, kindest man, until they're not.

64 women are in UK prisons on charges if paedophilia. 4900 are men. This isn't including those on suspend sentences.

There's around 66,000 people on the sex offenders registers between 2 and 5% are women.

It's not all men, but it's most likely to be a man.

SerafinasGoose · 17/09/2024 13:41

BlackShuck3 · 17/09/2024 13:34

Why do so many men and women leap to the defence of men?
I think this is to do with the way the power and dominance works. I think it's an animal impulse type of thing, our default impulse is usually to align ourselves with whoever holds power.

It has to be either a 'pick me' or 'crocodile will eat you last' scenario.

That was me.

Why are you so triggered by women being angry over yet another sex crime committed by a man?

Do men committing crimes against women and children not bother you?

Nobody had to point out men commit crimes on the Lucy Letby threads and no one said "my wife would never do that, it's not all women" everyone was allowed to feel how they chose on there.

But for some reason, it angers women when people are angry at a male criminal

Incredible!!

Who gives a shit that HE 'might be at risk of taking his own life?' I honestly couldn't care less if he topped himself and in fact he would be doing the world a favour.

Millions of people have a strict father (try growing up with a military Dad, Huw) and didn't get into Oxford. They've all somehow managed to not indulge in child sex abuse.

It's ridiculous and insulting isn't it?
There's often suggestions that strict father = the need to abuse chidren.

Why? Doesn't make sense....

YES! Exactly! 👏👏👏
No brigade showing up to crash that thread.

And this is what I mean by its a man's world.

Vilify women and protect men.

Even the ones who say that men get attacked too by men, refuse to see how dangerous men are

I don't understand how a woman can feel so comfortable and confident in shouting down another woman in order to protect a man when that man is likely to be the one that hurts you

It is a precursor to vascular dementia and affects cognition and decision making. It's very much a mental health problem.

Neuro-cognitive disorders like SVD are classified in DSM 5 - the Diagnostic an Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Assoc. And are diagnosed and treated by mental health professionals

It can lead to mental health problems but it's a neurological condition which isn't a mental health condition

Dementia isn't a mental health condition. It's a brain disease that can affect mental health

“Delivering his sentence, the judge said Edwards would be "particularly vulnerable" if he was given a custodial sentence, both from attack from others and as a suicide risk.”

Vulnerable just like the children he was happy to abuse.

Such a shitty excuse. Poor little Huw. We wouldn't want done to him what he was perfectly willing to do to others. 🙄
I mean, in a regular prison, he would never have been among gen pop. He'd have been separated from the get go and the asshole handing down the sentence knows this.
And eventually, he'd be moved to a place like Littlehey anyway.

It doesn't come under the classification of a mental health condition though does it?

Cases of it can lead to depression etc but the disease itself isn't a mental health condition

I’m shocked at this sentence and sends the wrong message to other perverts.
I also want to say how brave Gisele Pelico is. I was in awe of her walking into court past all those disgusting men with her head held high. She is amazing. I do hope that justice is done there and hope they are all locked up for a long time.

I don't want to turn it into a men vs women anything. I don't want people using my voice to shut others down. Using 'if your child was abused' as some kind of trump card that they know nothing of.

Read and post as you want. I don't care. I haven't addressed you. You are the one who appears to be trying to police my posts not the other way around.

No one is policing your threads. You're just banging around, wounded, angry, cutting people up on your sharp edges. I know! I AM YOU most of the time myself on these threads and in life in general. You never stop being angry as a parent of a victim. It's a club I wish no one would ever have to join.

I'm not policing your threads. I'm asking you to grant us this space to fucking bleed out onto.

YellowphantGrey · 17/09/2024 13:11

TheOliveGoose · 17/09/2024 13:03

None of it 'helps' me as the parent of a child that suffered abuse.

I didn't like you bringing 'if your child was abused' into the conversation when you haven't got a clue what it would feel like if your child was abused or what would 'help' if your child was abused. Using it like some kind of trump card to shut people down when you actually don't know is in poor taste and 'inflames' the situation.

Point missed again.

YellowphantGrey · 17/09/2024 13:09

ilovesooty · 17/09/2024 12:51

If he has small vessel disease he has a mental health condition. It's not a "card". That doesn't mean I'm minimising the offence he's committed. I'm just pointing out what was in the sentencing report.

Way to spectacularly miss the point.

Male violence against women and children is endemic - it's a social problem. The only way we solve that is too address it head on. Huw Edwards is just the latest in a long line. There has been at least a thread a week about incidences of male violence/perverted sexual behaviour/family annihilation in the past few weeks.

There ARE problems in the black and south Asian communities too (there are problems in most communities). The only way they can be addressed is to discuss them head on (see failure to do so in Rochdale). Social and cultural issues exist - shying away from them does nobody any favours.

The difference is that this is a patriarchal society, with a justice system that utterly fails women and girls (rape conviction rates being the definitive evidence). This isn't packaging together the unrelated crimes and reaction to those crimes of disparate people who happen to be men. This is pointing out that a patriarchal society doesn't treat women and children as full humans - and this allows suspended sentences for the very worst crimes against the person and humanity of children and women.

It's completely different to racist statements. We are hollering against our oppression.

Lovefromjuliaxo · 17/09/2024 13:08

Neither women nor men get any sort of proper punishment for downloading CP. when the man who sent Edward CP got a suspended, it was very obvious Edwards would never be going to prison. Unfortunately I have the displeasure of knowing someone who got caught with CP, accused of rape (of an adult) but there wasn’t enough evidence and it didn’t even go to court, THEN caught by one of those pedophile hunter groups. He still didn’t go to prison. It’s not Edward’s being treated well because he’s a celebrity.

My daughter was abused for 5 consecutive years.
So, as deeply sorry as I am for you and your child's horrible experience, a walk I share with you as the parent of a victim, I feel totally helped and supported by the many voices on this thread calling out male abusers.
You want to turn this into a male v. female bun fight.
Well, you're silencing your own voice.
Abusers abuse and they can be men and women.
But today, right here, right now, allow us this safe space to really lean into the topic of the post.
If you want to talk loud, by all means, talk loud. If female-led abuse is something you feel passionate about, start a thread. Be the voice of justice. But let women like me read and post and be part of something on this thread that gives me a sense of strength, something I often lack.

I don't want to turn it into a men vs women anything. I don't want people using my voice to shut others down. Using 'if your child was abused' as some kind of trump card that they know nothing of.
