Bought Oasis tickets for husbands birthday and now doubting the date I picked

So for context I’m only posting this late as we have been at a wedding in London this weekend and I spent most of the car journey home asleep (6 hours as had to detour to pick kids up from my mums) and also I rarely experience hangovers these days due to having 2 toddlers so I think my anxiety levels are through the roof atm (lol).

I tried for Manchester tickets first time round, didn’t get into the pre sale ballot so queued for hours in general sale and no luck so gave up and started looking for alternative birthday present ideas as husbands birthday is on 20th September.

Then by some miracle I got invited to enter the presale ballot for the extra Wembley dates and got sent the code to join for the 8.30an slot yesterday. I was getting ready for the wedding at the same time as waiting in the queue. Ideally I needed Saturday tickets as my husband is a primary school teacher at a private school so the chances of him being allowed to take Monday off is pretty slim if not out of the question (he basically wouldn’t want to ask). Whereas I could take Monday as holiday if I wanted to or just swap my Friday as I don’t work Fridays atm. Anyway annoyingly there was 16,000 people ahead of me and by the time I got to buy tickets standing had gone. I really wanted standing. I then tried seating and at first there was only restricted view seats so I went back and tried again and then there was 2 top tier seats but I knew he wouldn’t want to be that high up so I tried again and there were 2 seats for lower section but for £206 each and I still wasn’t sure they were the best option?! I’ve never been to Wembley so not a clue where to sit as I just assumed I would get standing and I felt very under pressure to be quick - I almost bought them then last minute pressed the back button out of panic and then just couldn’t get back to where I was and had to join the queue again (yes, I know :| ). I then thought right I’ll just see if I can join the Sunday queue instead and low and behold standing tickets were available so I quickly added to basket without hesitation and purchased.

however, now I am thinking that I should have just stuck to the Saturday and just bought the seated tickets (lower section) ?! As we would be staying with my brother in twickenham which is at least 40 mins on a bus on a Sunday late at night and then it’s a 3 hr 20 min drive from his house to where we live so for my husband to be at work for 8am we’d have to leave at 4am in the morning 🙈 or we park at Wembley and drive back to ours after the gig and get home for 2am (if we’re lucky).
I don’t drive so it would be him driving.

So now I’m thinking have I made a huge mistake and will I end up reselling my tickets closer to the date? Or should he just be grateful that I got him standing tickets to a once in a lifetime experience and as a one off he’ll accept the situation as it is?! Also if he doesn’t want to go because logistically he doesn’t think it will work am I being unreasonable to be annoyed?

what would you have done in my/his situation?! Advice appreciated.

@boymama55 my tickets are for heanton park on the 19th July and I panic bought but the whole thing is going to be an expensive headache to be honest what with hotels or simply driving all that way! Would love to have the Wembley ones, private message me and we can have a chat.

Happii · 16/09/2024 08:39

To get a ticket at all was really hard, I'm sure he'll understand that! Its not like they aren't in demand and you had hours to browse and think about it. It'll be fine as a one off I'm sure.

vixsta2001 · 16/09/2024 08:38

@boymama55 I have two standing tickets for mancherster and we live in London!! Fancy swapping??

OP literally says he won't even ask
And it's a private school, they are sometimes more open to allowing it

If he won’t ask it’s because he knows the answer will be 100% no. And if he knows that, and his bosses know that everyone is aware of the policy, then he’ll look an idiot for asking. So of course he won’t ask.

MayaPinion · 16/09/2024 08:32

Jeez, stop overthinking it - just do it. Life is short. He wants to see them. I’d be furious if someone bought me tickets to a band I really wanted to see and then sold them! He’ll be tired on Monday. It’s not the end of the world.

TayceOnToast · 16/09/2024 08:30

You got the standing tickets you wanted, congratulations!!

Think of it like this, sometimes we experience bad nights sleep for rubbish reasons out of our control then have to go to work the next day anyway… At least the reason you’re losing sleep is a fun reason.

Neither of you will remember the following day in a few years time but you’ll remember the concert. The Saturday option sounded overpriced and shit. You made the right (or just lucky?) snap decision and it paid off. Don’t fret, celebrate!

MouseofCommons · 16/09/2024 08:28

You'll have to leave the Sunday gig early to get ahead of the masses.

rookiemere · 16/09/2024 08:28

I would go and just accept that you need to get up very early on the Monday morning, and/or see if he would be allowed to go in an hour late so it's not quite such an early start. Or I still feel quite awake after a concert so maybe another option is you drive half way, stay in a cheap hotel and get up early but not as brutally early the next day.

You will be tired on Monday so just go to bed really early and you'll be fine by Tuesday.

Sorry I haven’t read all your post as I am about to fall asleep, just be extremely careful if you decide to sell them because I think they are going to try to make a point about ticket touting and cancel re-sold tickets. I can’t be sure how, just wanted to warn you to look out for possible risks.

You can resell easily via Ticketmaster for face value

Beekeepingmum · 16/09/2024 08:21

This is going to be the "cultural event" of next year, like the Eras tour was this year. You should go. You can park right next to the Stadium and there won't be any traffic once out of London. I'm not sure 5 hours standing is too much of an issue. Lots of people will spend a day out walking then drive that far.

He’s a teacher. They don’t get days off. They even find it hard to get leave authorised for funerals in a lot of schools if the family member wasn’t a direct relative. And he won’t even be able to enjoy it as OP won’t drive so he has to.

It was a bit of a stupid idea of buy Sunday tickets when she had Saturday tickets available. But what’s done is done.

OldChinaJug · 16/09/2024 08:14

I'm a primary teacher and I wouldn't even contemplate getting home at 2am on a Sunday night. It would be too much on a Monday and set me up badly for the week.

But I'm not your husband.

I think you'll have to just wait and see what he says.

Well, if he won't even ask about the Monday off then it's kind of his own fault that he has to drive back isn't it?

Schools generally don't allow for time off in term time. Some might as a one off but it really is school dependent. At most, it's an automatic no. If he doesn't even want to ask, it's because he already knows it's a no and asking would be pointless and a bit ridiculous.

Littleleap · 16/09/2024 08:13

I think in any sale you just had to take what you could get so I'd give them to him as planned and if he thinks it's a problem just put them back up for resale on Ticketmaster, they'll be snapped up in seconds.

You posted this at nearly 1am after a 6 hour drive, was it just after you got back or was it that you were awake now after a long drive?

If he's really not sure about the late drive back when he opens them then suggest you'll keep an eye out for potential Saturday resale tickets and then sell yours on.

Hi OP. Can’t your husband take Monday off or start later? It’s a lovely gift but sounds exhausting plus he won’t even be able to have a beer if he’s got a late night drive ahead…

Ivehearditbothways · 16/09/2024 07:58

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 16/09/2024 07:54

Seriously? You had a choice of tickets and you're still grumbling?? What a lovely position to be in. There are 1000s of people out here who didn't get tickets despite hours of trying.

Anyway. Have an easy Sunday morning. After the gig, you drive home, your dh can sleep in the car. Go straight to bed when you get back.

The OP doesn’t know how to drive. Not sure why she can’t just learn.

Doingmybest12 · 16/09/2024 07:53

Can you go to your brother's the day before so there's an easy journey there on the Sunday. I would imagine being at the last show is an added bonus. If he's not feeling its the best plan then you can work on swapping it somehow. I'm sure he'll be delighted though.

lemonyellows · 16/09/2024 07:42

He could always ring in sick if he has a good attendance record 🫣

Clearinguptheclutter · 16/09/2024 07:40

I think you’re overthinking. Will be fine. Not sure how realistic it is but it may be possible to swap with someone nearer the time? There will be people with Saturday tickets who prefer Sunday

Catza · 16/09/2024 07:36

boymama55 · 16/09/2024 01:08

@RobinHood19 so it would be a 3/4 hour drive down on the Saturday and then a 3/4 hour drive back after oasis finishes on top of at least 5 hours standing and then he has work at 8am whereas I’d most likely book it off work as I know I’d struggle and all I have to do is sit in a car. I know he really wanted to see them though and it’s the last night so maybe he will think it will be worth it? I guess I’ll just have to wait and see!

Drive down on a Saturday, spend the night at Twickenham as planned and then have a nice day and a gig on Sunday before driving home.

JMSA · 16/09/2024 02:12

Stop worrying and overthinking and just have a bloody good time!

CareerChange24 · 16/09/2024 02:08

Do you realise how much someone would kill for those tickets? I entered every ballot spent thirteen hours logged in trying to get tickets and now being threatened that if I pay extortionate prices for resale tickets they’ll be cancelled. I was told I’d never walk again and when I had an op that fixed that and I could stand again my first dream was to stand or sit on the floor to an oasis gig. I own every single vinyl, watched high flying birds when no one knew who they were and travelled solo to do it. True fans have missed out on this opportunity so you should go for it and enjoy it.

boymama55 · 16/09/2024 02:05

@Caerulea I think I’m just stressing because I usually would have asked his opinion on which tickets to get as he’s more fussy than me when it comes to view - he’s also 6ft4 so I know he would always prefer to be standing than restricted to a seated area, but I’m now questioning whether booking the Sunday is a bigger compromise and maybe he won’t enjoy as much as won’t be able to relax like he would have done on the Saturday? Hopefully he will see we’re lucky to have got tickets 😅
