Shopping Spree on Company Credit Card ?

Ok so I know I’m partly unreasonable, but I am being totally U ?!

Ive resigned and leave in a week. I have already had my final pay.
For years my horrendous line manager wouldn’t sign off legitimate expenses to the point I no longer submitted them as she loved the power play (a whole other thread !).

So for about 5 years I have been paying for all my own stationery, batteries, toners, things like that. I wfh so no stationery cupboard to raid on the last day - I’m thinking of replacing all the things I’ve used and brought myself with my company credit card now before I hand it over.

They won’t know about it for at least a month, possibly longer. And even then it will just be legitimate expenses, not like a holiday or anything 😂

Someone tell me to do it …

If you are still working this week, I would just get a toner cartridge, there’s no way they can tell if you ran out this week. Small one off purchase may not cause suspicion, but multiple purchases probably would and you may feel slightly better for doing so. I do think though you should’ve pushed for your expenses to be paid earlier or used company card for these purchases.

Sounds like a great idea.......💸🚓

Don't be ridiculous

angellinaballerina7 · 13/09/2024 09:35

I know you’re kidding, because that would be an awful idea.

CuriousGeorge80 · 13/09/2024 09:34

Well we would take legal action against somebody who did that at our place. So I really wouldn’t.

OurChristmasMiracle · 13/09/2024 09:31

I would send the receipts for things you’ve paid for and emails sent with them that weren’t authorised to higher up and request irs paid within 14 days

Thrilley · 13/09/2024 09:31

I don't understand why you weren't buying these things on the company card in the first place, if that's a possibility?

No reason not to put legitimate expenses on it now, and submit the required paperwork before you leave.

Whothefuckdoesthat · 13/09/2024 09:28

No, not worth the aggravation. If she’s refused to sign off valid expenses for the last five years, then you can’t really be said to have had a legitimate expectation that these would be signed off either. The time to do this was five years ago, when she first started messing about.

I have no idea where you’d stand legally, whether it would be enough to constitute theft or not, but I do know that it’s a load of grief that you really don’t need when you’re trying to concentrate on learning a new job. If you want revenge, then work really hard, get yourself promoted, earn more than her and feel very smug & happy that you’ve escaped and are a good enough manager that you don’t need to resort to stupid games.

Glitterandmud · 13/09/2024 08:48

Can't you just put in an expenses sheet, send to your LM and cc HR / their boss (whoever is appropriate in your company) saying you expect this to be paid before you leave?

NoOneKnowsWhoYouAre · 13/09/2024 08:44

That would be theft. Don't do it unless you want a criminal record. Move on, forget about it.

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 13/09/2024 08:30

Wow, no don't do this. They will know sooner than a month and you will have no justification for it. So it would be theft. You would be expected to pay it back or get a visit from police (or both)

Goldengirl123 · 13/09/2024 08:30

I would but I would also put it in writing to them

SoleToSoulToSeoul · 13/09/2024 08:27

Don't do it (I know you won't)

Leave with your head held high, and never burn your bridges.

But congratulations on getting out of there! 💐
