No women only spaces for 16 months. Basically women, RAPED women - were told they could not definitely see a woman to help them with such an awful crime, they might have to see a man in a dress, and if they objected they were to be 're eductaed' by the man in charge - a man who himself applied for, and got!! a job which was supposed to be only filled by a woman.

It's shameful, disgusting, but whats worse is how many people put up with it!! Who thought this was ok?! why did nobody do anything, or say anything FOR YEARS

Woman with head in her arms sitting on a bed

Edinburgh rape crisis centre failed to protect women-only spaces

The centre unfairly dismissed a worker who believed victims should know the sex of staff who deal with their case.

I know it's not the point, but the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre isn't a women's service, and wasn't before Mridul Wadhwa was appointed, though they offer women only sessions at dedicated times.

I agree that anybody accessing rape care services should have the autonomy to reject provision from a gender or sex they aren't comfortable with, and thus that the dismissal was wrong.

I'm not really comfortable with referring to a trans woman, who has lived as a woman for many many years, as a man. It seems unnecessarily hateful, and detracts from what otherwise could be valid points being made.

Calling a biological man ‘he’ is not ‘hateful’ FFS - since when has that become such an overused buzzword for anyone calling a spade a spade?

And what exactly is ‘living as a woman’ meant to mean? Growing your hair, wearing a dress and a bit of slap does not make you female.

Im actually sick to death of these fetishist men bulldozing their way into women’s single sex spaces demanding anyone who doesn’t pander to their emperors new clothes delusions needs re educating (lecturing and scolding)

The shameless way actual women are acting like owns pandering handmaidens to support this misogyny against their own sex is the real hateful behaviour.

Sticking on a bad wig and an M&S dress does not make a man ‘stunning and brave’ it just shows his male entitlement will always come screaming through.

I'm sorry about your son. That must be so difficult for you all.

Women's Aid can provide specialist support to male survivors and there's a database here of support:
https://www.survivorsuk.org/ways-we-can-help/national-database/

I don't want to derail the thread but Women's Aid in Scotland do not offer services to male survivors, they are women's only services.
Note, not necessarily single-sex services as each service will have it's own policy on that, male survivors however are not provided for by women's aid.

Well he is a man, both biologically and, if we insist on indulging the insanity of legal sex, he is legally a man. He should never have been appointed.

Stating facts is not hateful but using the accusation to shame women into silence is misogynistic and hateful.

Sandy Brinkley of Rape Crisis Scotland and Maggie Chapman MSP have a lot to answer for in this mess.

They really do. MW is a vile, vile man. Shame on all those who supported and facilitated him.

This is where TWAW ideology has got us. It's the furthest thing from being progressive and kind. Sex matters.

Dismayed but not surprised that yet another thread gets derailed by the 'but what about the mens' feelings' brigade. Have a day off.

FOJN · 12/09/2024 18:16

Tut tut, don't you realise a man's feelings would have been hurt if the needs of traumatised women had been given priority.

User79853257976 · 12/09/2024 18:15

That’s truly awful. Why are you embarrassed though?

Saind3rs · 12/09/2024 18:14

1offnamechange · 12/09/2024 17:50

Okay so if your son is too traumatised why don't you or your husband or your father or your brother or one of your son's friends do the campaigning then?

If everyone thought like you - that nobody who had actually experienced or was close to someone who had should be expected to get involved in organising better support and treatment there wouldn't BE ANY rape centres at all, ever.

How vile. You have literally no idea. My time has been focussed on supporting a mentally ill, suicidal young person, battling for mental health treatment and education, searching for rape support, dealing with police and services whilst trying to hold down a job and parent other children. Campaigning for equal rape support isn’t high on my agenda even if I had the time which I don’t.

All right. First, please let us know what "lived as a woman" involves, as no one has ever been able to detail the specifics of it. I'm a woman and I make no plans how to woman on waking each day, I simply live my life in a female sexed body.

I'm not comfortable referring to trans identified XY men as women and will not do so.

It seems unnecessarily hateful In what way? MW is and has always been a male bodied person, and as humans cannot change sex there is nothing hateful about the truth. Hurt feelz? Up to MW to deal with them when not larping the day away.

The ERCC should be ashamed that this nonsense has been allowed to go on for so long with much detriment to women.
🙅

If one can't call a man a man it makes it much harder to discuss the problem.

'man' isn't considered hateful terminology on MN.

Indeed.

Autumnweddingguest · 12/09/2024 18:10

I remember when this first came out the man in charge said that raped women should prioritise educating themselves and then when they were understood that men were women they would qualify to get support from those men. he didn't use those words exactly (although he did stipulate that first they should educate themselves) but that is exactly what he meant. And he wasn't challenged! Radio interview on the news and this was just broadcast as information to women - if you are raped, prioritise the needs of men before your own. If you feel unsafe in the one place that is supposed to support you, get over yourselves.

I was enraged and my distrust of self-ID turned to disgust at it.

You can call him whatever you like, but stating facts is not 'hateful'. We are all over this nonsense now, thanks very much.

Back to the topic. I honestly can't believe this was allowed to happened. He is a disgrace and these poor women were failed.

If an organisation has a policy of only employing women and a job is given to a man then they have breached their own policy. Yes, he is still legally a man because he doesn't have a Gender Recognition Certificate that says he should be treated as a woman. Living as a woman doesn't mean that biologically you're a woman and legally without a GRC you're also not a woman. Whilst legal and biological facts may be unpalatable they're not necessarily hateful.

Saind3rs · 12/09/2024 17:08

If men aren’t to be involved at all the whole system needs changing as currently males experiencing rape struggle to get the support they need. My son was raped and got nothing as the rape support centre would only let him access support 1 day a week which he couldn’t do as opposed to the 4 days a week women were offered because he couldn’t be on the premises. Men, women and trans should all get the same level of support. Rape is Rape. The whole system needs overhauling. He has still had zilch and is expected to process a court case and the rape itself on the back of zero therapy and support. Women only spaces shouldn’t be protected at the expense of male survivors. I don’t understand why there aren’t separate buildings offering exactly the same.

Campaign for better male rape survivor system then. The issue on the thread is about rape of women.

I am glad these many horrific incidents are finally making it out of the ghetto of the FWR board and to the mainstream boards.

Were you here during the general election 🙄 ?

well you can continue to mis-sex a man who for some reason absolutely had to be involved in the "care" of traumatised women.

Not here, though, if you don't mind.

murasaki · 12/09/2024 18:02

I am hoping that this new report gets rid of him, at least on the grounds of incompetence. Not the grounds I'd like, but it will serve the purpose.

lifeturnsonadime · 12/09/2024 18:00

MrTiddlesTheCat · 12/09/2024 17:58

I can't get over that a man with no therapeutic training skills whatsoever was allowed to join in with therapy sessions for women who had been raped and got to ask them if they orgasmed as they were being raped. Then went on to describe these experiences as the fun, enjoyable part of his job. He's a very sick man.

This fact he still is in his job is utterly shocking

marshmallowfinder · 12/09/2024 18:00

Mortified means embarrassed. You surely mean disgusted, in which case I agree with you.

murasaki · 12/09/2024 17:59

lifeturnsonadime · 12/09/2024 17:59

Yes this is important. Didn’t the male have 2 other options, the male support & the trans support yet he chose the women’s support and when Sarah objected she was removed from the service?

I think that's right, so he had all the options and she had none.

titticaca · 12/09/2024 17:59

spannasaurus · 12/09/2024 17:56

The lack of single sex support groups is not just limited to the ERCC.

Sarah is suing Sussex rape crisis an survivors network to try and get a female only support group. Currently the women's group is open to anyone who identifies as a woman despite the fact there is a separate trans group
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4539958-big-update-on-rape-crisis-legal-challenge

and a separate Men's Group. So males have potentially 3 groups to choose from and the Women have 1 that might include transwomen.
