No women only spaces for 16 months. Basically women, RAPED women - were told they could not definitely see a woman to help them with such an awful crime, they might have to see a man in a dress, and if they objected they were to be 're eductaed' by the man in charge - a man who himself applied for, and got!! a job which was supposed to be only filled by a woman.

It's shameful, disgusting, but whats worse is how many people put up with it!! Who thought this was ok?! why did nobody do anything, or say anything FOR YEARS

Woman with head in her arms sitting on a bed

Edinburgh rape crisis centre failed to protect women-only spaces

The centre unfairly dismissed a worker who believed victims should know the sex of staff who deal with their case.

Mridul Wadwha must be sacked now. He's a disgrace. Who were the directors of ERCC and Scottish Rape Crisis at the time who allowed this abuse to carry on? They must all be held accountable, not just him.

My understanding is that the board was very young, inexperienced and mostly put in place by Wadhwa himself. There was also a lot of churn. I'm not sure what would be appropriate here.

I'm not really comfortable with referring to a trans woman, who has lived as a woman for many many years, as a man.

Could you explain how he's lived as a woman for many years? Has he had to cope with periods? Leaking pads? Hormal contraceptives? Internal ones? Morning after pill? Pregnancy, birth, or termination? Earning 20% less than male counterparts? Sexually harassed while walking down the street? Been spoken over and had his needs ignored? Been given the task of serving the coffee despite being more senior than all the men in the room? Driven a car that has never been tested for their safety? Taken medicine that has never been tested for their safety? I could go on.

So how exactly has he been living as a women? Millions of women would really like to know.

I'm sure there will be men along soon to tell us how we are living as women incorrectly.

I can post where I like. As I said women’s rights appear on every other thread.

Alongside male apologists like yourself who are doing the work of the patriarchy and not allowing women to have their say on issues that affect them without making sure that no one forgets about the poor men, not even for a minute.

Georgyporky · 12/09/2024 18:59

I'd let men have those sort of jobs, providing they have their bits chopped off first.

I'm kind-hearted really, I'd let them have an anaesthetic.

TheKeatingFive · 12/09/2024 18:59

Wadhwa peaked me, so this one's close to my heart.

Not an ounce of empathy for women like Sarah!

Astonishing.

This has just been reported on the BBC1 news at 6.

TheKeatingFive · 12/09/2024 18:58

Anyway. Is Wadhwa still in a job do we know?

YellowphantGrey · 12/09/2024 18:58

Saind3rs · 12/09/2024 18:55

Not common in our area. There is one rape centre. Men get raped too and are just as deserving of treatment.

Stop!!! Just stop!!!!!

This is about women!!!!!!!

Why do you have to come on and make it a male issue??????

Saind3rs · 12/09/2024 18:57

lifeturnsonadime · 12/09/2024 18:56

No one has said men don’t deserve rape care. It’s a different issue. Start your own thread rather than distracting from a very real issue for women.

It’s not equal though is it?

Have you seen what happened to Sarah Summers. 3 options there for the male but not one option for a woman who needed single sex care.

Edited

For RAPE

Which is overwhelmingly a woman's problem. Absolutely disgusting.

lifeturnsonadime · 12/09/2024 18:55

I posted too soon.

So please come back when women have achieved equality. The way men who identify as women has run roughshod on women’s single sex services means there is no equality for women. This has zero to do with male rape victims. Where’s your empathy for women like Sarah?

The amount of threads that women’s rights appear on and “derail” is massive. But that’s ok. Equal rights for rape support provision is pertinent to any conversation on the subject.

It's an awful experience for anyone but this poster apparently assumes that as soon as it happens to a man the thread has to derail.

I was raped twice and never received help even after going to the hospital immediately after. I spent a long time as a peer support worker for women who have gone through the same thing. I definitely wouldn't have been able to have a male support worker or support group.

Men should NEVER, ever be in charge of rape crisis services or involved providing care services for women who are victims of rape.

This. My husband works as a business advisor to our local Rape Crisis charity. He has never set foot on the premises . He meets the managers ( all female) off site. It would never occur to him to go to the centre. Hes a man. He has never experienced things that women are rightly fearful of in person... because he's a man. But he absolutely knows that he has no place there. Why can't transwomen summon up even the tiniest bit of empathy and understand that women who have been raped don't want to be anywhere near anyone who is quite clearly biologically male.

You're too outraged, angry, upset, struggling to start a campaign or a even a post about your son has been treated.

But not too outraged, angry or upset to hijack a thread that affects women and attempt to make it about your son?

I don't want to derail the thread but Women's Aid in Scotland do not offer services to male survivors, they are women's only services.
Note, not necessarily single-sex services as each service will have it's own policy on that, male survivors however are not provided for by women's aid.

I didn't mean Women's Aid, I meant Rape Crisis.

I am so, so glad this day has finally come, but so beyond incandescent that women who were suffering have been further damaged. I hope they finally sack MW, good luck reframing your trauma, you prick.

Amen to this

How vile. You have literally no idea. My time has been focussed on supporting a mentally ill, suicidal young person, battling for mental health treatment and education, searching for rape support, dealing with police and services whilst trying to hold down a job and parent other children. Campaigning for equal rape support isn’t high on my agenda even if I had the time which I don’t.
