No women only spaces for 16 months. Basically women, RAPED women - were told they could not definitely see a woman to help them with such an awful crime, they might have to see a man in a dress, and if they objected they were to be 're eductaed' by the man in charge - a man who himself applied for, and got!! a job which was supposed to be only filled by a woman.

It's shameful, disgusting, but whats worse is how many people put up with it!! Who thought this was ok?! why did nobody do anything, or say anything FOR YEARS

Woman with head in her arms sitting on a bed

Edinburgh rape crisis centre failed to protect women-only spaces

The centre unfairly dismissed a worker who believed victims should know the sex of staff who deal with their case.

Totally agree. I actually feel more contempt for the penis pandering handmaidens who are betraying their own sex to suck up to these male fetishists.

The traitorous women are happy to throw away many years of hard fought women’s rights to worship at the alter of #bekind.

They sicken me

Edited

Articulated it better than I did.

Basic governance procedures were poor. Trustees had concerns about the quality of trustee board papers and tried to support and direct improvements. However, the CEO did not implement the Trustees’ requests.

This is how much he respected the Trustees.

I bet he just thought the trustees were stupid wee girls that had no authority over him.

It's absolutely extraordinary that anyone thinks we owe courtesy to this arsehole.

I'm ashamed of any woman kowtowing to this nonsense. Imagine pandering to these awful men at the expense of traumatised women. What kind of craven traitor would do that?

Ugh. Men in women’s spaces.. why? If they are truly “wanting to be a woman” why wouldn’t they be for us not against us? Why would they want to to be nurses carrying out intimate procedures on women or working in rape crisis centres? I have to assume their motives are not right here.

I’ve been raped, like many women have and I have complex trauma from the years it went on for. I have seen two male therapists and three women. The males are where I have jelled and worked well. But I would never ever tell anyone woman they should work with a man when they don’t want to. Rape crisis is often that first port of call. The first responder if you will. And that should be women. Women only.

Oh god I agree, and that post makes me feel sick.
Who on earth would support a vile man over traumatised women?

I can post where I like. As I said women’s rights appear on every other thread.

oh dear. Even on a thread like this it's all leaping around and "pick me pick me"

give it a flipping rest.

Women campaigned and raised funds for DECADES to get rape crisis centres. And you know what? they often also offer support to men. How many have men set up for men and also offered services for women?

It's the same as mental health charities. One of the first for men is CALM. Set up by a woman.

I'm not really comfortable with referring to a trans woman, who has lived as a woman for many many years, as a man. It seems unnecessarily hateful, and detracts from what otherwise could be valid points being made.

You do know this is the same individual who, on face of criticism of their policies, stated women need to "reclaim their trauma "? . This is not an individual who cares about women.

It's just absolutely exhausting isn't it. Men expecting to be centered and prioritised even when we're discussing female rape victims traumatised by males. Its shameful.

It's fucking appalling.

It shows they haven't read the report. They don't understand what it's about and why those findings were important.

Or worse they have and they don't care and they still want to make it all about the menz.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/09/2024 20:12

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2024 20:00

The subject was literally about the lack of women's only services because it was traumatising, humiliating and degrading to women to not have single sex available.

And someone has made it all about the menz.

The report in question points out the % of female victims compared to men. And that the majority of services were effectively mixed.

But nope despite over 90% of victims being female they STILL couldn't provide details of guaranteed single sex services because it's was all about being inclusive and championing values rather than giving a shit about the victims.

Slow hand clap to the poster who has managed to once again make the point about how women aren't worth shit.

Quite.

Why should I show 'respect' and undermine my own rights when he cant even pretend to respect the women he's supposed to be serving.

We are not here to valid males. We are not here to be nice to males who trample all over us.

The report literally says this man traumatised women by his totally unnecessary actions and words.

Some men have no choice being in rape centres because they’ve been raped and that’s where the support is based.

"women's crisis centres."
Men can talk to GP or seak one of many charities con erned with mental health.

At least the main stream media are now taking notice of the appalling situation in Edinburgh, despite ignoring, for the most part, the tribunal which triggered this enquiry. Where were the reports on the BBC of this tribunal where it was being revealed that raped women were being told by ERCC that they couldn't receive help, because they wanted a female counsellor ? They only deigned to mention it after the judge gave his damning verdict .

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2024 19:54

We can't even centre women on this thread without 'what about the men?'.

hot2trotter · 12/09/2024 19:52

Us women are second class citizens - always have been and always will be.

IwantToRetire · 12/09/2024 19:51

the treatment of “Sarah” at the Brighton rape crisis centre

There is no rape crisis centre in Brighton.

The local government has given funded to Survivors Network which isn't / never was a feminist / women only organisation.

That's why its not just about making sure only those federated get funding, and funders ensure that they only fund services that provide if not 100%, 99% women only services.

Women only = biological females.

murasaki · 12/09/2024 19:50

Men make similar arguments about refuges. Why don't they cater for men? Because women set them up for women. Set your own ones up.

Goodluckanddontfitup · 12/09/2024 19:40

The poster talking about access to services for male victims of rape being needed isn’t wrong. But yes that’s not the issue that this thread was about. So rather than argueing the toss back and forth why doesn’t everyone just discuss the original issue.

No one has said she/he is wrong.

What has been said about their posts being wrong, is that this thread was started about an issue that affects only women and that their son isn't relevant to this conversation because he isn't female.

They are more than capable of starting a thread about their own fury about how their son had been treated but this post isn't the place to do it

But no, they have to coming back and stirring the pot and trying to make it about their son.

This suggests they aren't completely genuine.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/09/2024 19:47

Saind3rs · 12/09/2024 19:12

No thankyou. I’ll post what I feel on the subject, you don’t get to dictate. It’s a parenting discussion forum. I am the mother of a raped child and can voice my views.

Have you got your son's permission to post about him on here? He might not want his personal information broadcast in this way, poor lad.

YellowAsteroid · 12/09/2024 19:46

Some of us have known about this for quite some time. Including the heroine, J K. Rowling, who set up Beira’s Place as an alternative to the Edinburgh Rape Crisis place.

I remember in the 1970s when rape crisis centres were set up by feminists as volunteer organisations and how hard it was to establish them and raise the money to run them. Now the men are trying to take over. Again - see also the treatment of “Sarah” at the Brighton rape crisis centre.

poppyzbrite4 · 12/09/2024 19:40

I completely empathise with you and provided a directory on one of your posts so you could find specialist services including counselling, for your son. I advised that women's aid could help but I meant Rape Crisis, they can talk to your son and advise on other support available.

I'm sure you understand that traumatised survivors of sexual assault do not want to see men or be counselled by men, in what is meant to be a safe space.

The UK doesn't have enough services for men, that's something to campaign for. You could also contact your local MP to raise the issue, perhaps contact Rape Crisis to see if there is any campaigning you can do.

This thread is about traumatised sexual assault survivors who have been accused of being bigots and told they have to 'reframe their trauma' to accept men in their spaces. A support worker went through a tribunal because of the way she was treated while trying to support survivors. People are angry about this.

I wish you all the best.

She/he won't acknowledge your post because they are on this thread with the intent of making sure no one forget about men.

She/he is all kinds of furious bit not enough to do anything to make a change but only enough to attempt to make an issue that affects only women, about men.

She/he cannot stand the thought of not being able to protect men and justify and insert lots of whataboutery, just to make sure we don't forget about men

Nope not upset. A Mumsnet thread is not upsetting. Seeing your child denied much needed support because of gender is upsetting.
