No women only spaces for 16 months. Basically women, RAPED women - were told they could not definitely see a woman to help them with such an awful crime, they might have to see a man in a dress, and if they objected they were to be 're eductaed' by the man in charge - a man who himself applied for, and got!! a job which was supposed to be only filled by a woman.

It's shameful, disgusting, but whats worse is how many people put up with it!! Who thought this was ok?! why did nobody do anything, or say anything FOR YEARS

Woman with head in her arms sitting on a bed

Edinburgh rape crisis centre failed to protect women-only spaces

The centre unfairly dismissed a worker who believed victims should know the sex of staff who deal with their case.

Fat chance. You've got to remember than males are the most vulnerable. Particularly when they're wearing a dress.

I am amazed that I went away after posting this and I come back and it seems to be all about men, but not the man in a dress!

My point exactly. Watching the transwidows film shows you that most of these men are living as their fantasy of what a woman is (often influenced by porn) which bears no resemblance at all to the reality of women's lives.

Notably most of them leave all the parenting to the actual women and give not the tiniest shit about the impact of their actions on their children.

The point, for I think many, is that there are aspects of being a woman that you can only access if you were born one. There’s also a history you can only fully access by having been born a woman.

If it’s either of those things that make us “live as women,” no trans person could ever be classed as living as a woman, and I’m not sure that’s a point I agree with - it’s very exclusionary.

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2024 21:00

Just to be perfectly clear here:

Police Scotland recorded 14,602 incidents of sexual crime in 2022-23. 2,529 of these concerned rape or attempted rape and 5,282 were sexual assault. 94% of rape or attempted rape victims were female and 86% of sexual assault victims were female.

But Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre couldn't or wouldn't provide a women's only service.

And someone comes along on this thread out of all threads on rape and rape services, and says 'oh well there wasn't a decent service for the men'.

Absolutely staggering.

As a mental health professional who has worked in this type of service I am horrified that any of this has happened and so grateful for JKR setting up and funding an actual women only service. Telling raped women that they are transphobic and need to "reframe their trauma" is the pinnacle of misogyny.

334bu · 12/09/2024 20:48

Any man who tells raped women to "reframe "their trauma if they object to being forced to have men in their group or as a counsellor is contemptible and should have been fired as soon as the tribunal verdict was given.

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2024 20:48

The CEO didn't take the stand for the court case. Instead very junior staff were expected to instead. The judge went as far as to comment on how this was poor form.

If the CEO has been a woman she'd have been sacked or resigned months ago.

The sheer arrogance over not taking responsibility for this shit show is absolutely breathtaking.

I shall not waste any energy thinking about whether or not it's 'comfortable' to say this is a man.

Not once has he demonstrated even a shred of empathy nor respect for any of the women he was supposed to serve, employ or to whom he was accountable.

Willyoujustbequiet · 12/09/2024 20:48

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/09/2024 19:31

Quite. Yet they're never the ones to start their own threads discussing the needs of males and how they should be prioritised, they just muscle in on the ones trying to talk about women's rights and needs. A bit like... well men.

Interestingly this is the only thread that poster has even posted on. It's almost like...

That's very interesting.

I wonder what that tells us.

I'm not really comfortable with referring to a trans woman, who has lived as a woman for many many years, as a man. It seems unnecessarily hateful, and detracts from what otherwise could be valid points being made.

He isn't living as a woman and never has. He's exhibiting male pattern abusive behaviour, arrogance and entitlement that he's exhibited in a very very male way for years. He's a walking example of toxic, abusive masculinity at its worst. If you think he's been 'living as a woman' that means you think dresses and skirts + fake boobs = woman, which really doesn't reflect well on you. The view that dresses and skirts plus fake boobs = womans is sexist and also means I, who've had two children, can't be a woman because I don't wear dresses or skirts and don't have fake boobs.

There is literally no woman with so few relevant qualifications that would get the job he has. He only got it because he was a man, exhibiting the worst type of entitled male behaviour but wearing a dress, and because the world has gone mad in a weird McCarthyist way on this issue - plus because those in power are sexist and misogynist. It's been obvious for years this is what would happen. It's happening all over the place with men like this. Time it stopped.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/09/2024 20:47

I've said this on numerous threads before, men need to pull their weight.

I've worked and volunteered in male (and majority male) services including shelters, prisons, housing, ex-offender provision. Guess what sex the staff were in the main in most of the social provision... female. In the women's services, guess which sex... also female. The managers were sometimes male but the people doing the work were female. Fundraising... female. Campaigning... female. Advocating... female.

If there's any real cash or influence to be had... male. But the actual work is done by women.

Men need to do all the above. Not just throw their hands up and ask women why they don't do even more. Considering they have most of the power, money, influence and spare time for bloody 'hobbies'. Take off the Lycra and do some unpaid labour.

What you shouldn't do is take the important position at the head of an organisation which should only go to a much better qualified woman.

334bu · 12/09/2024 20:42

Men, women and trans should all get the same level of support. Rape is Rape.

Indeed it is and the victims are almost always female and yet ERCC thought it was acceptable to reject raped women who requested female counsellors. Moreover, in other areas such as Brighton, some centres won't even offer single sex counselling services to the majority of their clients and yet will still offer men only and trans only groups

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2024 20:40

ERCC’s values as stated in its strategy are: loving, empowering, inclusive, accountable, brave

are not fully consistent with NSS’ values: survivor-centred, trauma-informed, gender-informed, empowerment-orientated, embodying a culture of belief, actively anti-racist, and employing an intersectional feminist approach

‘Loving’ and ‘brave’ are not listed in RCS Best Practice Model 2021. These appear both inappropriate and to raise boundary issues when used in the context of survivors of gender-based violence.

This man clearly understood the issues. So much so he used inappropriate language that was deeply problematic.

Then went on a podcast saying women needed to 'reframe their trauma' in response to comments about single sex provision.

This has been found by the report to have further traumatised a survivor.

The report concluded that Wadhwa “failed to set professional standards of behaviour” within the organisation.

And we are supposed to respect him?

Christ, he couldn't even get data protection right. The policy hadn't been updated since 2017 and didn't even include references to the latest data protection laws - GDPR!

He couldn't even look after flipping data correctly. Nevermind the well being of women.

And we are supposed to RESPECT HIM. And we are supposed to centre males when half the report is about the failure to centre female survivors as a core values?!

Get to fuck.

This bloke hasn't even been sacked yet. He's still on paid fucking leave, whilst the charity has a funding crisis and is making redundancies.

So a young raped teenage boy is supposed to set up his own centre to access support. Great!

The system we have in our area is they are under 1 roof, my son had more important things to process than campaigning for male rights after his rape. 🤔

I'm so very sorry about what happened to your son.

nebulae · 12/09/2024 20:39

@Saind3rs you've done yourself no favours on this thread. Whatever sympathy people felt for you is rapidly evaporating. Bow out, please.

murasaki · 12/09/2024 20:36

It was all about validating this unpleasant man's delusions and position of power over women.

Yep all about his own huge ego and validation.
He might wear a dress and call himself ‘she’ but the male entitlement just oozes out of every pore

Whoyoutakingto · 12/09/2024 20:37

Saind3rs · 12/09/2024 17:08

If men aren’t to be involved at all the whole system needs changing as currently males experiencing rape struggle to get the support they need. My son was raped and got nothing as the rape support centre would only let him access support 1 day a week which he couldn’t do as opposed to the 4 days a week women were offered because he couldn’t be on the premises. Men, women and trans should all get the same level of support. Rape is Rape. The whole system needs overhauling. He has still had zilch and is expected to process a court case and the rape itself on the back of zero therapy and support. Women only spaces shouldn’t be protected at the expense of male survivors. I don’t understand why there aren’t separate buildings offering exactly the same.

I fully support you and agree there should be equal access for all but as you said separately.

But hell the staff were still seen as more important than the service users:

The ERCC Strategy 2023-28 is a high level document which does not give survivors first priority. The first priority mentioned is to ‘Invest in our people, culture and systems’. It mentions women once in the context of the SIA project.

Once.

Women got mentioned once. And the service wasn't centred on them.

And we are supposed to respect this man?!

FFS. Mridul had no interest in actually helping raped females did he?

SleeplessInWherever · 12/09/2024 20:29

TwistedWonder · 12/09/2024 20:22

Totally agree. I actually feel more contempt for the penis pandering handmaidens who are betraying their own sex to suck up to these male fetishists.

The traitorous women are happy to throw away many years of hard fought women’s rights to worship at the alter of #bekind.

They sicken me

You do know this is the same individual who, on face of criticism of their policies, stated women need to "reclaim their trauma "? . This is not an individual who cares about women.

Sorry that should be "reframe"

murasaki · 12/09/2024 20:25

He deliberately recruited young brainwashed kids to be trustees from the 'be kind' generation. They've mostly now quit.

Saind3rs · 12/09/2024 19:16

Nope not upset. A Mumsnet thread is not upsetting. Seeing your child denied much needed support because of gender is upsetting.

support because of sex not gender.

Again sorry for your son, but you are unbelievably crass. Start your own thread and people will point you in the direction of services.

Meanwhile in the living as a woman bingo stakes, i was fired for being pregnant. No man has had that one.

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2024 20:24

The judgment also found that the management investigation in respect of RA had the effect of creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating and offensive environment for her and she was discriminated against because of her gender critical beliefs.

There was an employment tribunal that found in favour of the employee.

There wasn't even an employee handbook.

This was how much he respected the staff.
