For wanting to photoshop a photo of a friend

justforthispost1 · 10/09/2024 11:58

Had a lovely holiday with some friends, I was the designated photographer so I sent all of the photos to everyone afterwards and told them to send the ones back they want uploaded to social media. All was fine however one friend sent back a picture and on closer inspection I would feel more comfortable photoshopping part of it. I don't want to upset my friend so I was thinking of just doing it without telling her but then I think if she looks at it compared to the original and she notices then she will be offended. Would it be unreasonable to just edit it without telling her?

My friends would probably 'shop on some extra pubes. But that's how we are.

Normal slang for female genitals around here. I quite like it. It suggests a possible bite for the unwary.

I haven't heard 'Growler' as a term for female genitalia before- it just reminded me of a hairy dog!

Thanks for all the advice. I decided to just ask her. She said she didn’t notice but she’s not sure how she missed it. Doesn’t want it edited because everyone knows she has pubes because she’s an adult. Not embarrassed at all and was appreciative I offered to edit them for her. So this thread is solved, is there anyway to close the thread or delete the post now?

Just saw your update after my post, that was the right approach and what I was suggesting. Goodluck.

Added for context

There’s some noticeable hairs visible from an area that a bikini usually covers. The thing is I’m not sure if my friend noticed and she doesn’t mind or she didn’t notice. If it’s latter then I could get away with photoshopping it however if it’s the former she might be offended that I asked to edit it out.

I would just message her directly to say hey wanted to confirm if I should edit this or if you're ok as it is before I post it. I'm assuming she's a friend you can talk to about stuff like this.

I am a hobby photographer so I have good quality cameras and can take good photos and I enjoy it so everyone leaves the photography up to me :).

I will not be sharing the photo on this forum because of privacy

In fairness to your friend, you must let her know

YouOKHun · 10/09/2024 16:58

This thread has sent me straight to YouTube to rewatch The Smack the Pony visible pube sketches.

Weddingbells6 · 10/09/2024 16:04

I don’t think you should edit the photo. She’s seen it at the end of the day and likely checked it as she knew it was going in socials. Women have hair? It’s literally just body hair and if she went to the beach / pool / bar with this hair showing then clearly she doesn’t care that it’s showing and in which case neither should you. If you’re really uncomfortable just don’t post that one and maybe another one so it isn’t obvious that 1 is omitted.

If it’s your friend then I would think you would
be able to ascertain if she is the sort of
person that is cool with stuff like being a mammal and therefore having body hair.

With respect, a lot of "social photographers" assume people take them more seriously than they actually do. Most people don't see it as an amazing opportunity for free professional photos. It's actually quite cringy when a self-proclaimed pro photog comes along and documents the entire trip.

Then they always send everyone a Google Drive Link with 50GB worth of images that takes ages to open and load up. Nobody genuinely cares which pictures get uploaded onto social media...it's not Facebook 2007. Everyone will skim the photos as fast as they can and pick out the few they feel are ok just to get the task done with. This is presumably what the friend did and didn't even notice the bikini issue. If it gets photoshopped, she won't remember the difference or bother comparing images.

Edited

I agree with what you have to say but you could have used a bit better tone. With respect and quoted social photographers was not necessary.

SummerHouse · 10/09/2024 15:56

I am quite comfortable with hedge trimmings hanging out my swimmers but what goes on tour, stays on tour. If you were my friend I would say yes please, trim the bush. She might say it's fine. No way to know unless you ask.

ClairDeLaLune · 10/09/2024 15:50

If I was your friend and hadn’t noticed that my pubes were showing and you had, I’d be offended if you DIDN’T photoshop them out! Do it OP.

Women have body hair so what

BobbyBiscuits · 10/09/2024 15:44

It's very hard to say. Without seeing it. If it's to make her specifically like slimmer, have 'nicer' hair, skin etc. then it's a bit weird. If someone has got a leaf stuck in their hair or there's a bird flying past in the background then that's more reasonable. I guess if you are talking about people's faces then you'd need to ps all in a similar way? To not make it look like one person was unattractive? God knows. Tbh I just don't know. If someone made me look a bit nicer but didn't go too far then I wouldn't mind personally.

Feelinghurt2 · 10/09/2024 15:43

I would just explain it to her and ask her what she'd like you to do.

Bogginsthe3rd · 10/09/2024 15:41

That was the worst possible option to go for. She will have been mortified. More so if she reads this thread having been pubicly called out.

I'd be highly pissed if you did that to me.

Recently I texted a close girlfriend a selfie of myself, I felt I was looking okay that day, its more common that I feel ugly so I was happy to send the pic. She often sends me selfies of herself but they're always so retouched that she looks like a cartoon character.

Well later that day she sent the selfie back w/touch up. The last image, my teeth looked like bright white scary fake teeth. my face-it was horrific, all the smoothing etc it just isn't my thing. I know I'm older now, I don't want to look like I'm 20 yrs old.

I was so offended, I replied and asked her to delete those images and never do that to my pics again. It was awkward but no way was I going to let her do that to me.

Keep your insecurity to yourself OP! do NOT do this to a pic you're posting on sm!

MLMsuperfan · 10/09/2024 15:30

Either Photoshop on a pair of shorts or pixelate the whole area.

You've answered your own question here op, do you think in a million years your friend would be happy with a photo showing spider legs sticking out of bikini? Obviously not, unless it's her thing.

So going on that, she most likely hasn't noticed so feel free to edit it, if she does ask you say you only noticed once she sent it back so decided to edit it slightly.

Unless you put a bright yellow star over the area to cover it, she will not notice either way.

Like getting blood from a stone covered in pubes with you OP !

In light of the update - if I was your friend, I'd want you to edit. Definitely.

I would too!

DappledThings · 10/09/2024 14:51

Not sure what kind of anatomy lesson is needed here but no, a few stray hairs that go below the leg line of a swimsuit does not mean my genitals are in any way on show.

And yes, if I did care about appearing to be hairless I would do something about it. I don't care and would resent being told my not caring is inappropriate. Sometimes I wear full shorts and a long sleeved rash vest for a bit more warmth in the UK sea. Sometimes I wear a normal swimsuit. In neither item am I choosing to show or cover hair. They are just items that are cut differently.

Anyway, OP doesn't know if her friend is bothered or not so should just ask. Not that she's coming back again, clearly.

Think you maybe don’t know what growler means, 😂

Wineandcupcakes · 10/09/2024 14:57

sweetpickle2 · 10/09/2024 14:51

Yes but the other posters are responding to the situation as described by the OP? Not sure there's any need for the snark.

Then stop posting snark.

HateSpewingTurnip · 10/09/2024 14:55

Are you really good friends? If so id be sending "Just checking did you know you've got spiders legs showing? 🤣 " and if she's horrified offer to shop them out.
