A man told me how I should have reverse parked. I told him to floss and use a stain resistant toothpaste.

I had to use DH truck today - which I rarely drive. I then has a tricky reverse park in a busy town. A man watched the whole thing with his arms cross, chuckling and came over and offered a lot of critique and unsolicited advice.
WIBU to offer him critique and unsolicited advice in return?

Yeah yeah, I know I was rude but fuck me, he was a twat of the highest order.

I may have used the phrase "Is it FREE ADVICE DAY? GREAT?"

i go to my local tip. and nearly every time a man also dropping off rubbish different one every time gives me a wave from where i am at front of que waiting for next space to dump my stuff, they tell me there is a space its usually very small then i get blocked in waiting for people near me to finish their dumping of rubbish.last time i shouted i will wait for a bigger space they shouted of of course women cant get in small spaces, i replied i usually get blocked in and have to wait so i will wait for a bigger space to start with thank you

BluebellsareBlue · 08/09/2024 23:29

I'm
Confused, did you actually say those things to him about his teeth? If so, I think you were unreasonable. There's no excuse to ever shame someone for how they look. If all you said was 'oh is it free advice day' then fair enough. But that's not what your title says. It makes me mad to think a man was laughing at your efforts and felt the need to 'school' you. But it makes me sadder to think he was responded to by ridiculing his looks :-(

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 08/09/2024 23:27

Good for you, I wouldn't encourage others to do this though in case you get stabbed. Xx

Happyasapiginmuck1 · 08/09/2024 23:24

I had a new nextdoor neighbour who stood and watched me reverse park behind his car into a very small space. He was all ready to give his advice and wave his arms about as necessary, but I did it as I always do in one swift move. He congratulated me as I got out of the car! 😂 The joys of living on a terrace.

Thorilicious · 08/09/2024 23:24

Myself and some mum friends camp every year. A couple of men arrived one night, and made snide comments about women camping.
When packing up the next day, they were asking when the men folk were arriving to pack up everything. Didn't believe us when we said we were doing it. They went for an hour long dog walk and were amazed when they came back that almost everything was packed. Apparently they'd never seen women do that before...

ClockwiseHoneysuckle · 08/09/2024 23:18

I had a man "helping" me out of a parking space the other day. I called cheerily out of the window something to the effect of "Thanks, but I've got a reversing camera" and did a smart turn and whizzed off. I do wonder why these people assume you need help without asking.

ChampagneLassie · 08/09/2024 23:09

I’d just reverse parked in a very tight space and paused to admire it when a passing man offered to get my car out for me as someone had boxed me in. He didn’t believe me when I said I’d just parked it, until another man, on some scaffolding shouted down that he’d watched me do it! Random man 1 did not praise me he just walked away shaking his head

MzHz · 08/09/2024 23:09

Utter legend @user47 he was asking for it.

bet he’s been wondering about what you meant about flossing alllll day 🤣🤣🤣

Chocolateorange22 · 08/09/2024 23:01

Gets my goat. My company has a reverse park policy. Consequently I'm actually quite good at it as a result and can park our long car in the tightest of spaces. Parking at the hospital the once I had the window down and swung out ready to reverse. Chap walking past in his trackies, Nike's and a manky cap "oi love want us to park it for you?". I ignored the pillock and got the car in first time. He waited until I got out of the car before clapping me saying "you sure you ain't a bloke cuz women can't park innit" I dead eyeballed him and replied "definitely all woman, I'll let my vagina know that you approve of my parking, thanks" and walked off. He just stood there cogs whirring trying to make sense of it.

Haha I got told off once by a pensioner for wearing a camouflage print biker jacket on my motorbike. He said why am I so stupid wearing camo so nobody can see me.The jacket had reflective patches all over it, my lights were full on and I wasn't riding through a fecking forest.

To be fair, anything you wear on a motorbike becomes The Cloak of Invisibility.

user47 · 08/09/2024 22:55

@Babbahabba this is true. Never has a woman 'helped' me with parking, except my mum, when I was 17! Men do! But that may well be because I'm driving a truck and in a male dominated farm environment much of the time but I do find saying 'be careful back there! I might run you over!' Moves them on in most cases 😂

OP this is hilarious, I hate it when men do that! Some of them really need some smart arse answers directed to them!

I had a similar experience on a narrow high street, where I was walking behind this old dude and his elderly mother. The idiotic male proceeded to berate me for making his mother fall! Mind you, I was a good 2m away from them, so it made zero sense.

Some men just need to feel all high and mighty to fill some void in their miserable lives

that's very clever 😂

amicissimma · 08/09/2024 22:41

One day I was waiting outside the toilets in a shop. There are three cubicles inside, but as there were also people in the inner lobby, which is stuffy and smelly, waiting for the cubicles, I stayed outside. A man came up, just as I closed the door, so he knew I'd seen in the toilet lobby, and mansplained in a condescending tone that there were several cubicles.

I womansplained in my calmest voice, that he was correct and that there were three toilets inside, each occupied, and four people within waiting.

He was very huffy and said 'thank you for explaining that to me'. I told him politely that he was very welcome and I hoped he'd found the information helpful. He left. (I happened to know that the next nearby toilet was out of order.)

jaimelesoleil · 08/09/2024 22:41

TBH I would told him to fuck himself...but then I'm a nearly 60 year old who doesn't take shit anymore 😉

Wantitalltogoaway · 08/09/2024 22:37

The trick is to have a certain type of face. Mine says, “Don’t fuck with me”. I don’t try to make it say that, it just does. It’s apparently just my demeanour.

Because men tend to be intimidated by me they never really interfere with my parking, offer unsolicited advice in DIY shops or even sit next to me on the train.

As an old boyfriend said, “You’re very sexy, but God you’re scary.” 😂

highlandcoo · 08/09/2024 22:35

I was driving into the local pub car park where there's a weekly fish van. A bit on the last minute so I nipped in pretty smartly and parked a foot away from the pub wall. Not dangerously fast at all, just fairly speedy.

An old guy called over to me "I thought you were going to crash into that wall there!"

I said "Oh no, it's my husband who does that. I'm a really good driver." I couldn't think of a better riposte at the time. But I wasn't just going to smile and laugh. That's what they expect isn't it .. a reward for having attracted our atttention.

He would never in a thousand years have thought of passing comment to a man would he. Just why??

LunaNorth · 08/09/2024 22:35

LongTimeReading · 08/09/2024 21:19

No, that's worse. You can retaliate with being an "ist". In this case ageist. That would have be cheap & easy, and wouldn't have showered you in glory.

To be fair, she was being a bit dentist Wink

larkstar · 08/09/2024 22:32

Smashed that one out of the park!

I think you did well to say that, and maybe he’ll think twice next time.

LunaNorth · 08/09/2024 22:31

BlossomOfOrange · 08/09/2024 21:40

@LunaNorth what did he say to you, what did you say to him?

I was sitting in my car, indicating before driving off, when he came up behind. Someone had double parked opposite me, and instead of letting me drive off to make room, he insisted on squeezing through, ranting at me all the way.

I saw red and followed him - only to find he lives at the top of my road. He got out of his car, so I wound my window down and asked if he had a problem?

He was apoplectic. He said I was selfish for parking outside my house, and then something about us always having builders in Confused

I said I’d be sure to ask his permission before getting any work done on my home in future and he bellowed ‘YES DO THAT’.

So I wished him a happy bloody Christmas and drove off.

Hmm

Sexyshrek · 08/09/2024 22:25

There was a poster on here ages ago that replied "Thanks for the opinion, random man" when faced with a man desperate to give his critique. I have used it many times and can report that they really don't like it!

ThisWarmQuoter · 08/09/2024 22:24

When I was about 19 I was a passenger in a car with a relative who was in her mid 70’s and she lacked confidence in driving in general. Due to her lack of confidence she asked me to park her car after she attempted to park it unsuccessfully , I agreed.

Whilst this was happening about 5 work men stopped to watch us as I got into the drivers seat. It was a parallel park, I parked correctly and got it in the first time. This is not an exaggeration, the men started clapping and told me how well I had done. At 19 years old it just boosted my ego, but at 30 years old, I do think I would now have given a different reply. I do wonder why they cared so much to watch, and to give me a round of applause and I also wonder if I was a man would they have given a round of applause. 😂

PussGirl · 08/09/2024 22:18

I was once reverse parking in the local high street. DH was in the passenger seat. A man stopped on the pavement to watch and then applauded when I made a good job of it as I usually do
