Valentina Petrillo shouldn't be allowed to compete in the women's race

Valentina Petrillo only started transitioning 5 years ago and previously competed as a man. How can that be fair? I appreciate that she did not make the final, but she's taken the place of a woman who has worked her arse off, but couldn't surpass Valentina's natural advantage.

We have already seen the IOC stance on this and it is to allow males in female competition.

Oh I know. I’m still in shock at reading about the poor breast feeding councillor in Australia who’s being forced to attend a tribunal to be publicly shamed for daring to be of the option that it’s wrong for a male to nurse an infant with chemically induced secretions. It’s so dystopian that it’s hard to believe it’s real.

The feelings of the male engaging in what she quite legitimately believes to be a fetish must come first 😡and she’s been hauled over the coals for HER wrong behaviour in pointing this out.

The attack on women to appease these males is appalling.

This one? Yes I remember Buckley complaining that women, experts in breastfeeding, were saying that no male should be feeding the artificially induced secretions of unknown composition and drug interactions to any infant. Considering how many of us mothers where told we couldn’t have so many things while breastfeeding, how the fuck can any medical doctor encourage a male person to do this as supposedly Buckley’s endocrinologist did? There is no research done, therefore medical specialists who have encouraged this are experimenting on infants.

WTH Australia? | Mumsnet

For context, nearly all the states and territories in Australia have Self ID. Since women won't 'behave' they're doubling down on persecuting women....

It's not fair that para athletics allow this when AB athletics doesn't.

There should not be a difference.

Para sports classes are to allow for impairments and the effect on performance to create a level playing field.

Being transgender is not a disability.

The athlete has a visual impairment I believe. They aren't claiming that being transgender is a disability.

Naunet · 07/09/2024 17:11

It’s like the last days of Rome. Men getting whatever they demand is never a good thing for anyone, long term.

MintyNew · 07/09/2024 17:09

Yanbu, that was a scary sight too! How on earth is it ok for this very obvious man to take the place of a born female.

lifeturnsonadime · 07/09/2024 17:08

Helleofabore · 07/09/2024 16:31

Don’t forget though, apparently there are new discoveries that have turned the world on its head. Apparently, a group of male people should be made happy and female people should shut the fuck up.

What I don’t understand is why he’s not embarrassed. I find that aspect baffling.

Naunet · 07/09/2024 16:36

He’s an entitled pig, the fact he’s allowed to do this is dystopian.

Helleofabore · 07/09/2024 15:48

Feelings errol. Feelings.

Ah, well I'm very happy to think about feelings - those of female athletes, who are the only people whose feelings are relevant in the context of female sports.

Caffeinequeen91 · 07/09/2024 16:35

It’s disgusting that a past it born male athlete cheats and takes the place of a female athlete. He has no shame.

Helleofabore · 07/09/2024 16:31

lifeturnsonadime · 07/09/2024 15:49

If the science wasn’t clear there wouldn’t be a separate female category in the first place.

There is no valid argument for destroying the female category.

Trans people are not prevented from sporting participation by retaining sex based categories but females are by the fact that the ioc & other sporting bodies put the feelings of males first.

And to top it all off, Petrillo had the sheer nerve to whine to Italian TV about having been provided with private toilet access rather than having the free run of the women's toilet and changing facilities. Ffs. It's not like Petrillo was being stuck in with the men..

After he bleached his hair too, poor bloke.

Jokingnotjoking · 07/09/2024 16:12

This is not fair and is a mockery to women. He should not race in a women’s race.

Maria1979 · 07/09/2024 16:11

Obviously not fair! Biology is what it is and men have an advantage in sports. He can transition and be a she but will biologically remain male.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/09/2024 16:07

YANBU, obviously.

HermioneWeasley · 07/09/2024 16:07

Of course not. The whole world can see he’s a man. It’s shameful

SinnerBoy · 07/09/2024 15:58

No, of course he shouldn't be "competing" in the women's category, for all of the excellent reasons already posted here.

Namechangeforadhd · 07/09/2024 15:57

The whining about the toilet situation was grotesque as well. Ffs. Taking a female athlete's place because he's not fast enough to run with males (obviously, he's over 50 I think) isn't enough for him. And of course he doesn't want his own toilet that organisers have bent over backwards to sort out. No. What's really necessary is the validation of peeing with females.
What a delight.

SquigglyNonsense · 07/09/2024 15:55

Men shouldn't be in women's sports. Or changing rooms. Or refuges. Or prisons. Or hospital wards.

Well that just shows clearly what it's all about. Most females would prefer the privacy.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 07/09/2024 15:53

How disgusting that a biological male was allowed to take the place of a blind female. 😡

The fact that he's around 20 years older than the others shows how much male advantage he has retained. It's shameful that female rights are being trodden over like this.

The science is actually very very clear that male people who have been through any degree of male puberty have an advantage over female people.

The fact that this male runner is so much older than the female runners shows that advantage.

The IOC has chosen to prioritise philosophical and political belief over the science and the human rights for female people to have fair competition. It is actually a violation of human rights for the female half of the world’s population.

If the science wasn’t clear there wouldn’t be a separate female category in the first place.

There is no valid argument for destroying the female category.

I think it's a fair point of concern. This is an issue that needs to be thought about going forwards and I think Olympic organisers aren't sure exactly what to do about it. There was some discussion about this before her race. Tanni Grey-Thompson said athletes preferred not to comment/get involved, when asked what the feeling was amongst the other athletes, and who can blame them, given the abuse they might get?

What on earth do you think needs 'thinking about'?
