I’ve not been back for around 18 years…lived there from birth until 23, when I then travelled lots and lived abroad. The last time I went back was before my family moved house to another area of the U.K.
I had my whole childhood, amazing teenage years and early 20’s there. I’d always wanted to travel and live abroad and thought I’d be back one day…I never returned to live. My immediate family don’t live there now or I suppose I would have been more likely to have gone back. I still have a few good friends there, but many are scattered everywhere. I’ve been dreaming about it lots recently and my old house and my old life as it were. I’m mid 40’s, is this normal?
Did you ever move away for a long time, then move back?

I moved from suburbs of a city in West Yorkshire to a small town in North Yorkshire when I was 10 and have had the urge to go back since then, but never managed to as life got in the way. It's a strange feeling, that my family going back generations lived there and I have such a deep connection and yearning to go back. When I have visited even though I don't have family there anymore, it just feels like home. I would like to live back there one day, I've lived in places around the country since but it's just not the same.

Nope.
I had a good childhood there and it’s a nice town. But, I’ve moved on and I don’t even have friends or family there anymore.
I’ll take my kids there one day to show them where I grew up.
I actually drive through it every few weeks due to work but never stop there.

I grew up in Worcester, left at 19, no family there, but would LOVE to go back xxx

I’ve never moved away. I can actually see my parents house from here.
I sometimes wish I’d struck out on my own. The grass is always greener and all that.

No!

I’ve had periods where I’ve thought about returning, but it’s usually when things are quite tough, so I assume it’s just wanting to return to an earlier simpler/happier time.

Yes, my home town is beautiful. Although it has changed a lot since I was there.

However, we wouldn’t have much money if we lived there. House prices are £££.

God no. I don't even like visiting my home town.

H0PE1 · 06/09/2024 19:34

No thanks lol. I grew up in Surrey, not for me thanks!

Aussieland · 06/09/2024 19:33

Nope. Zero. No friends or family still there, no interest in going there really never mind living there!
