DH and me on Mounjaro weightloss injections

God I’m so fed up.

Usually my husband and myself diet together. We’ve done every diet under the sun and we support each other through it.

This time I decided to start mounjaro and he hasn’t. He’s not comfortable with his body what so ever and claims he’s the biggest he has ever been but won’t join me on this and doesn’t seem to be making any changes.

It feels like he’s jealous of me losing weight. He says I talk about it all the time but I don’t, he rolls his eyes when I mention anything iv lost, he never asks me how much iv lost or how am I doing. He’s not acknowledged any change in me. I tried a pair of jeans on today that I couldn’t even get up a few months ago and now I can do up! I told my daughter first and then went downstairs to tell him and all he said was “I heard you upstairs”.

iv been on it a month now and lost nearly 2 stones. Iv been unable to tell him or speak to him about how im feeling because he just says “you do talk about it a lot” I bloody don’t.

It’s really really getting me down. He’s making me feel embarrassed and ashamed for losing weight and being proud of myself. I don’t know what to do 😞

Surely the pp asking a question doesn’t mean she’s not supportive.
You're a bit prickly.

Mumsnet is so pro this stuff you can’t even have a decent discussion about it. 🙄

I am just asking if this is what his issue with it is. That’s a perfectly reasonable question.

Is he concerned about the risks associated with it? Maybe he’s actually worried about what you’re doing to yourself long term.

Thank you all :( it’s just sad because apart from online I don’t really have anyone else to talk to about it.

we can afford for him to do it if he wanted to. Iv offered lots to order it for him :(

Ok, I think you’ve done what you can and well done for your progress and being able to get into your jeans!

I’ve lost 3.5 without using anything, but now stalled and would like to lose final 2 st. Pls could I ask what mounjaro does that isn’t calorie restriction anyway?? Asking purely out of curiosity for my own circumstances. Hope that’s ok?

I think you’re going to have to accept you’re not going to get the support from him this time, which is a shame to say that about your partner.
Bottom line is you can’t force anyone into making changes they have to want it themselves. He’ll join you if/when he’s ready.
could they jealousy be as he can’t afford mounjaro?

NCfor24 · 06/09/2024 07:03

What's his reason for not joining you? Is he afraid it won't work for him?
I must admit I almost didn't want to start because what if I still failed to lose weight? I'd have to accept being fat forever.
I think all you can do is keep going. Get your support from here (are you on any of the Mounjaro threads?) or Facebook or whatever, and continue to be encouraged and supported by your daughter. But it's your achievement and you are right to proud! Your DH probably feels a little threatened by your success, especially if it's making him feel badly about himself but he won't admit it.
Personally for me I'm concerned about the fact I no longer really drink alcohol. It's highlighting issues that have always been there and I'm not sure what the outcome will be.
When one person changes, even for the better, it threatens the status quo and there will be adjustments needed.

Detach yourself from him and his approval.

YOU have taken a huge step to get healthy
YOU are the one having sucess
YOU are the one who will benefit and be able to wear all the clothes as well!
YOU are the one who will feel better and have a better quality of life

Hes obviously very resentful of your success especially as he feels so bad about himself - but that's not your issue.

Try not to focus on what he thinks or says and you'll mention it less so he'll feel less resentful.

I'd also say the less you talk about it, the easier it will be for his ego to admit that he wants to give it a try!

If he's being a grumpy child about it, he may be too stubborn to give it a go even though he's desperate to start having seen how well it's working for you!
