I’d buy a stone cottage in the Cotswolds with a natural swimming pond and a flat in Notting Hill for when i got bored.

I would rescue 3/4 dogs (would be a gradual process as my current dog shepherds away dogs I show affection to)

Buy siblings and parents a house.

And probably foster. My job would come in the form of investing in female education in my grandparents’ home country. And something to do with the elderly here.

I’m a homebody so apart from a first class trip to Sydney I probably wouldn’t live too much a jet setter lifestyle.

I often think about this and my answer changes all the time. I'm not a huge "things" person but I've always wanted a house with an indoor pool that has a retractable roof. No excuse not to exercise then.

I'd buy DD a nice London house. Nothing fancy, just in a nice area with a tube station nearby.

I'd get myself a camper van or caravan but I'd need to learn to drive first.

I'd put some money in trust for my brother's kids. They can get at it when they are 30.

I'd go on lots of holidays including ones with the camper van.

Then I'd be a philanthropist because £125m is an obscene amount of money and heaven knows plenty of people are much more deserving of help than I am.

ncforcatquestion · 04/09/2024 21:06

I prefer the idea of really helping even one person over giving to charity. I would donate to Cats Protection though, as they are not able to take new patients for hospital at the moment, which is sad

mrswarthog · 04/09/2024 21:06

This may be a bit ranty, on a light hearted post but I'll start by being grabby!
I'd buy the house I have my eye on (but no money for😁), buy a house in France, fill my pension, sort out my DC and family THEN
I'd set up a charity / CIC specifically to teach every child but predominantly kids from the Global Majority/BAME and their mums how to swim. I'm so fucking furious about how many kids we lose in the UK every year to accidental drowning. Mums take kids swimming and if they can't because of privacy/ opportunity/knowledge then we need to set up Women only sessions. I live on the North West Coast, we've lost so many young men and women this year.

LondonWeeknd · 04/09/2024 21:05

I wouldn't tell anyone but:

I'd buy houses for my parents and each of my children and set them up with pensions although they would have to work.

Gift 250k to a few close friends.

Have someone to do my hair every single day as it's always been wild.

Do my house up with all the things I've wanted to do but couldn't afford, then sell it and buy something by the sea too.

Set up bursaries/trusts at mine and my children's former schools.

Donate to as many women's charities as I could, both here and abroad.

readysteadynono · 04/09/2024 21:03

Buy a house or two. Buy houses for family. Give excessively to my children's state schools and put money in trust to pay for additional school staff forever. Put some in trust for every family member. Go on holiday. Give the rest away.

Penguinhippo · 04/09/2024 20:57

Quit teaching immediately.
Buy a house - not a huge mansion, just a humble home.
Go on holiday.
Pay for private education for my child.

Tigerbreadbum · 04/09/2024 20:57

Make sure my family were sorted with everything they need.

Buy some properties and rent them out at genuine affordable rent

take the kids out of school and go on an epic world schooling adventure

buy some land in the countryside and build our dream home with stables/pool/gym

unmemorableusername · 04/09/2024 20:53

I'd buy all the abandoned buildings near where I live and bring them back into use.

I hate my car so I'd buy another one.

Lots of charity donations.

I'd bribe politicians. 😜

Firenzeflower · 04/09/2024 20:50

I would buy land and plant a forest. Then a lot of it I would invest in supporting small environmental charities. Do as much rewilding as possible and anything which can help the environment.
There really is nothing material I want.

iamtheblcksheep · 04/09/2024 20:47

Plug the gap in housing for ex military personnel who should be given priority. Affordable rents with an option to buy.

I wouldn’t tell a sole that I’d won though. DH included.

Assuming this Friday:
Give a million to everyone I know and love.
Give a generous amount to various charities.
Secure our dd’s futures.
Do up our house.
Buy a second home somewhere by the sea.
Retire early.
Buy a motorhome.

But I won’t as I’m not entering this Friday.

Give a million to everyone I know and love.

I had a quick think about this and think it could quickly mess up all your friendships and relationships with family!

In theory really nice but in practice I reckon it would create a lot of weirdness!!

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 04/09/2024 20:36

Buy the house next door to me, knock it down and build a lovely house for my younger son and his family.
Buy one of the houses across the river that have moorings.
Buy a nice boat.
Pay for my grandchildren’s private education and extracurricular activities.
Buy a house for my older son and his family.
Engage housekeepers for my home and those of my boys.
Engage a personal trainer.
Obtain weight loss jabs. 😬
Buy a property in Gibraltar and pay my tax there.
Buy new cars for my family.
Buy driving lessons for the DIL who doesn’t drive.
Take my family on a fabulous holiday, annually.
choose charity to support.
Hire a private detective to find my brother.

Vitriolinsanity · 04/09/2024 20:33

God wouldn't it be be wonderful???

I would spend another year in my job, which is stress but extremely rewarding knowing I can say fuck it and ride off into the sunset in my Porsche convertible.

Then I'd spend a year just bopping off to everywhere I'd ever wanted to go.

Trust funds for all my amazing Godchildren.

Pay off all my best friends mortgages.

Then I'd knuckle down to, in some way, trying to improve the outcomes of the children in the Trust I've worked for that has given me so many reasons to get up every day in the last five years.

terracottafarm · 04/09/2024 20:28
  1. First thing I would do is quit my stressful low paying job.
  2. I would buy lots of land and build my own property, albeit that is a long process, I'd start immediately.
  3. I'd give both mine and my DH families money or pay their mortgages
  4. I'd help a very few close friends to get into the property ladder.
  5. I'd buy a luxury camper van and travel Europe with my DH and our doggy.
  6. Buy my Lamborghini Urus. Dream car
  7. Have a private chef and PT
Alongthepineconetrail · 04/09/2024 20:17

You can tell I've thought about this quite deeply eventhough I've never bought a ticket in my life.

To throw people off the scent, I'd host a large birthday party and invite friends & family then I'd spend a year travelling.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 04/09/2024 20:09

There will be some very happy donkey and dog rescue charities if I win.

TheHateIsNotGood · 04/09/2024 20:08

I'd buy a farm and employ only local people and train up up any interested youngsters and all age groups.

I'd also invest in making my 2 most recent 'business' plans - both involving travel and holidays.

Study that Phd and write those academic papers that still haven't been written although accepted as viable 20 years ago.

Get new teeth.

Dweetfidilove · 04/09/2024 20:06

I'd set up a trust to see my daughter comfortable forever.

Give my parents and siblings decent amounts.

As soon as my daughter finishes school I'd set off to retire in my home country.

See the world.

Beezknees · 04/09/2024 20:04

Buy a bottle of champagne and get tipsy would be the first thing.

Quit work second thing.

Then I would buy a flat in Mayfair and move there.

Gift money to my friends and family and set up a trust fund for DS. I'd buy him a house or flat and set him up for retirement but I'd expect him to go out to work as an adult, I wouldn't want him to never experiencing working for a living.

Then I'd spend my days travelling the world, getting fit with a PT, doing some volunteering.

Would be so lovely to be able to do little things like take my friends out for lunch and be able to cover the bill.

I would also maybe buy a couple of properties to rent out to single mums at very affordable prices. Although I'm not keen on the idea of hoarding properties.

Arlanymor · 04/09/2024 20:02

Oh and I work for a charity and volunteer too, so would have to work out how to keep contributing to the not for profit sector. Not sure I would give up work entirely.

Also a stone cottage, but by the sea on the Welsh coast… on the beach. And a bolt hole in either London or Paris. Heck I’m a multimillionaire, I’ll have both! I’d upgrade my car which is 13 years old and I would also get a couple of rescue pooches.

I’d pay off the mortgage of two dear friends and give another couple a deposit towards buying their first home. I already have premium bonds for my goddaughters but I would top these up to the maximum and sort out a few nice cash gifts for other nearest and dearest.

And then I’d take me and three of my closest friends on a really nice holiday.

ProvincialLady2024 · 04/09/2024 19:59

I have lots of burdens to deal with first.

But when I get round to me I'd like to:

Share my good luck with a few close friends (after all I didn't earn it).

Rent a villa in Italy or France for the whole
of July and August and ask our most treasured friends to come out and enjoy.

I'd like a room of my own.

Make sure that my mothers end of life makes up for her unhappy life.

Soonenough · 04/09/2024 19:59

Divorce. Even if I had to share it . Then build myself my dream house and live by myself.

FirstTimeHomeowner · 04/09/2024 19:57

@Perzival and @Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong damn.... I was happy with my selfish plans but now I feel I need to fund these kids of charities and maybe limit myself to just one private jet ;)

I'm in the process of purchasing my first home (hence the username) and would happily pay cash and start mortgage free.

Holiday home in Dorset and perhaps a flat in Edinburgh.

Taylor Swift tickets, first class flights and a fancy hotel for one of her US shows.

Best friends mortgage?

Don't know what I'd do about family - I'd want to support everyone but can see millions down the drain/supporting addictions if I'm not careful. Maybe I'll just hire them a financial advisor to manage their money for them? This is worrying me far too much now for someone who hasn't won anything yet 😂

EmeraldDreams73 · 04/09/2024 19:56

Ooooh. I don't play, so zero chance, but:

Finish my house and get it absolutely beautiful. Then buy a big, very old, riverside house and restore it beautifully. And the garden.

Buy a couple of other smaller properties in places I like to/need to visit a lot.

Train as an interior designer.

Never cook another sodding meal but have a chef. And a cleaner. And a PA/housekeeper. And a private gym and a personal trainer. And loads of lovely clothes! No plastic surgery, though.

Buy homes for both dds.

Buy a home for my brother.

Pay off family and close friends' mortgages

Buy a super plush retirement home for my parents and ensure enough was available for top quality care when needed.

Write and travel.

I'd also love to set up some kind of charity programme for adult literacy, and another for music education for children.
