Not to mention the people buying the unlicensed stuff off of the streets?

I’ve seen it so much lately, this surely can’t end well.

It’s de rigeur on here to take jabs rather than control calories.

it’s depressing. YANBU

The only way you can lose weight on . MJ is by controlling calories, ya muppet! Maybe better not to embarrassed yourself posting about things you don't understand

Johann hari has a great book on this with extensive research

I take it you don't know all that much about Johann Hari?

SilenceInside · 02/09/2024 23:20

You mean a book with definitive inaccuracies and outdated claims written by a serial plagiarist and fabricator. Hmm, not sure I'd consider that a great book.

What do you mean by can't end well?
What dangers do you think there are?

I don't understand what your problem is. I'm more concerned about county lines and vapes than weight loss jabs where people are actively trying to lose weight and as a last resort scrimping and saving to improve their livelihoods with weight loss injections. Get a grip.

fashionqueen0123 · 02/09/2024 23:14

If people are lying about their weight or using fake photos then surely they could change it to be appt face to face only and weigh them?

Bigfuckoffmarrow · 02/09/2024 23:13

@Manyshelves You could say that about anti depressants and self affirmations in the mirror each morning. 😂

The injections are to help you control calories. That's what they do. They don't magically melt the fat away whilst you eat cake.

I have used weight loss drugs. it worked very well for me. I've stopped as i'm a healthy weight and so far havent gained.

I think it is crazy that these medications aren't being utilised by the NHS. I think that is a scandal in itself having used them and successfully lost weight on them. People will buy unlicensed crap due to not being able to access it via the NHS.

I would not have been able to lie and obtain through the suppliers I had used. I had to send pictures of ID and photos which included my face, so they knew it was me.

I’m on Mounjaro, legitimately and through a trusted pharmacy who have been very thorough. I worry that it will it will cause a serious clamp down on them making it really hard to obtain. It’s been life changing for me as I’m perimenopausal and have endo
so regular diets were not working.

I have lost 2st and my pain relief is the main benefit!

I do worry about some of the people who post on the groups saying they have hit the target and the before photo shows that they were slim to begin with. It’s a blatant disregard to the medical professional they have lied to.

mm81736 · 02/09/2024 23:04

As time goes by and our understanding of these drugs go and tge price comes down, it will likely be approved for long term maintenance

mm81736 · 02/09/2024 23:02

The only way you can lose weight on wegovy and mounjaro os by eating less than you burn? Same as amy other diet. How is it 'cheating ?

That’s the thing. When people break the rules, the ones who follow them often end up paying the price. I really don’t know what’s going to happen with this but it’s a legitimate concern to have.

Clearly if people are lying to get drugs which shouldn't be prescribed to them, that isn't great. If they're buying through illegal channels that's worse as they don't know they're getting the legitimate drugs

I do get why people are doing it though. People generally want to be thinner. And the discourse around weight coming from the media and the medical community for decades now seems to me to be a big part of the reason why people feel that way. It's honestly a bit strange that people are now all dismayed like "wonder why they'd resort to drugs to help them be thinner 🤔 "?

So I see both sides really.

Fwiw, my dsis took these (she's a doctor). She ordered them online I believe. She didn't lose noticeable weight and her eating habits have just gone straight back to how they were before...so I don't think they work well for everyone.

The way these drugs have been marketed is a bit iffy to me as well. Someone, somewhere is making a fuck tonne of money

MaidOfSteel · 02/09/2024 22:38

I'm considering buying a weight loss injection treatment, but am most definitely 3 stone overweight. What lies are they telling to the pharmacies supplying the meds, OP?

updownand · 02/09/2024 22:38

It's not fair that fat people can become thin

Arraminta · 02/09/2024 22:36

mozempic · 02/09/2024 21:52

people are looking for a magic bullet so they can eat what they like and be a size 8 -10.

That just isn't true. A lot of ignorance on this thread. You still have to make an effort with the drugs, it just gives you a big boost. If you invest in the process you're not going to want to eat what you like but to make healthy choices and the drugs make that easier.

Agree with this. So much ignorance about how these injections actually work. They do not magically melt away your fat (if only...). Instead they mute the food noise in your head and mute some of your appetite - this helps you to make healthier food choices and eat smaller portions.

I am one of the 'grey users' with a BMI of 29. I get mine from a fully accredited online pharmacy which I researched extensively. My GP now knows I've started the injections and made an interesting point that my taking Tamoxifen has likely impacted my ability to easily lose weight.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 02/09/2024 22:28

It's up to any individual what drugs they lob into their mouths/snort up their noses. If the drugs are illegal and/or untested/or just not prescribed for you personally then their own due diligence is about all there is.

UhHuhHuH · 02/09/2024 22:21

If cleared through trials for broader use, I support that 💯. I do not support the narrative it’s 💯 safe as NO medication is and proper medical supervision needs to be in place.

What’s dangerous is this perpetuation you’re entitled and should get it by any means. It’s not up to the individual to do their ‘due diligence’ on illegal drugs. Hilarious comment 😂

The most recent (2024) research has shown absolutely no increase in thyroid cancers or any other cancers for this taking semaglutide long term.

I think a lot of this faux concern is envy-related.

I'm someone who has taken it for a while, first because I was obese, but having reached my target weight and come off it, weight did start to creep back on, so I decided to take it occasionally to try to maintain my new weight, so every couple of months or so, and yes, I have to lie about my weight to get it, but I see it as a long-term investment in my health. I exercise six days a week and try to watch what I eat, but without it it's more difficult.

I think there should be some sort of way to take it legitimately, without having to lie, at low levels to maintain your weight once you've reached your target.

Edited

Well of course it's more difficult to maintain weight without it.
This is why it's so problematic. It messes with metabolism and doesn't actually establish healthy habits.

sahah · 02/09/2024 22:18

mozempic · 02/09/2024 22:12

Turns out it clearly IS an envy thing. How about being happy that people who have struggled with obesity (and people can become obese for various reasons) are able to lose weight when everything else has failed? And take less of those hospital beds someone upthread was moaning about. Hmm This is great news at both individual AND societal level. Pitiful that some people can be so envious and spiteful.

That was one person. You can’t then go on to conclude that anyone who has an issue with illegally procured medication is envious? I can go and get it myself as well if I want. How is that envy.
