Medium rare and my mouth is watering reading this thread.

UmopapIsdn · 01/09/2024 22:56

Medium

'cause it’s lovely and melty and not chewy. I cant have it too pink in the middle as I get all squeamish, like a daftie,

This thread has reminded me of a time I was told a pub wasn't allowed to serve steak blue! It was a chain but can't remember which. I asked them for the rarest the chef was prepared to chance and it wasn't too bad thankfully.

I usually do steak at home though given the difficulty/mark-up ratio.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/09/2024 22:56

I like it cooked the way DH did it this evening - I think they were about medium rare, in butter.
The outside definitely needs doing enough for the Maillard reaction to work its wonders.

PurpleFlower1983 · 01/09/2024 22:55

Medium rare, it tastes better and less chewy.

soupmaker · 01/09/2024 22:55

Medium rare. Cooked on a very hot dry cast iron skillet. Outside is caramelised and almost burnt, inside pink and juicy. Rested for longer than it was cooked for.

PickAChew · 01/09/2024 22:53

Usually medium rare but thin cut steaks are really tasty well done.

mumroom6571 · 01/09/2024 22:51

Cremated. Love it dry ha

NamelessNancy · 01/09/2024 22:51

Blue because it's delicious. Overcooked is like a chewy piece of leather.

XenoBitch · 01/09/2024 22:37

The red stuff is not actually blood.

Well I never!! I thought it was blood too but Google tells me you are quite correct.

I like mine rare to medium rare. I don't mind the pink stuff that's not blood.

It's nice and tender and juicy and tasty and is a waste of a nice steak when it's not pink in the middle.

Svolvaer · 01/09/2024 22:49

Blue - probably because when I was a child I used to go shopping with my grandma and when we went to the butchers to get meat for the cats he used to give me a small piece of raw steak to chew on the way home. I loved it!

NewName24 · 01/09/2024 22:48

Well done, because I don't want to eat anything a good vet could revive.

medium rare, just pink all the way through. Because its delicious

OneTC · 01/09/2024 22:48

It's not a cut I often buy but I cook it a bit more than some others owing to the fat content/distribution.

mondaytosunday · 01/09/2024 22:47

Medium rare. Just send the perfect state of cooked but tender.
My DH loved it blue.

Hohofortherobbers · 01/09/2024 22:46

At the point a good vet could resuscitate it. Lovely!

PortiasBiscuit · 01/09/2024 22:43

Cut off its horns, wipe its arse and stick it on a plate.. rare!

RabbitsRock · 01/09/2024 22:42

I’m on a sirloin streak! Like mine medium 🥩

Michellebops · 01/09/2024 22:41

Medium rare, with peppercorn sauce, onion rings and chips

Could go it now 😆

I grew up in a house like this! I was in my 20s when I found out pork chops weren’t meant to be stringy 🤣

Lamb too. You can have that pink and juicy. Grew up on it being served tough and grey looking.

StormingNorman · 01/09/2024 22:39

XenoBitch · 01/09/2024 22:36

Very rare.

I was bought up on steak that could have well have been the tongue from a Dr Marten's boot. Then I tried rare. Have not looked back.

Prriorayingly · 01/09/2024 22:39

Rare.

StormingNorman · 01/09/2024 22:38

Blue to rare

longdistanceclaraclara · 01/09/2024 22:38

Medium rare, and it has to have a crust and be properly rested.

Not chewy, tastes better.
