To think we should all boycott John Lewis until they respect their female employees

This is a letter from a female employee of John Lewis's Cheadle branch. John Lewis told its female employees that they have to share toilets and locker rooms with trans identifying men. The employee says this is having a terrible effect especially on colleagues who have experienced trauma relating to men or who have religious reasons to not want to share a space with someone who is the opposite sex.

I'm interested in what is the opinion you refer to that large numbers of people disagree with. Could you explain?

Yes. The opinion expressed was that transwomen are male. This is something that large numbers of people disagree with. It is an opinion, not a fact. HTH both you and Kendra.

Do you understand that wasn't me being rude, that was me stating facts? Do you not know that transwomen are male? Confused

Do you know that what you’re expressing is an opinion?

I think it’s sad though that you don’t even realise that calling someone ‘dense’ because they disagree with you is rude.

ElleWoods15 · 29/08/2024 21:27

In your opinion.

But the articles aren’t about trans women, they are about predatory men.

You seem to have some sort of insider knowledge on this. Can you let the rest of us women know how you sort the sexually predatory males from the non sexually predatory males? And how are transwomen not male? If they're not what are they transitioning from?

Do you understand that what you’re expressing is an opinion, with which a large number of people disagree.

There is no reason whatsoever to resort to being quite so rude to someone who doesn’t share your opinions.

Only on MN is it a ‘fact’….. but you keep reassuring yourself of that.

Nope, you can gaslight all you like but it is fact.

What makes them different?

And, by the way, calling women who disagree with you 'hysterical' is classic misogyny.

Indeed.

And also, can we stop with this ridiculous assertion that trans woman in some way necessarily means sexual predator. It’s offensive.

No one is arguing that but I think you know that.

My argument is that some men are sexual predators. Transwomen are male or they could not be transwomen. They are in the same sex class as 99% of sex offenders. I can't tell if a male person is a sexual predator just by looking at them, can you?

Do you think single sex spaces cast aspersions on all men or do you accept it's a reasonable safe guarding measure?

ElleWoods15 · 29/08/2024 21:29

You are going off on unrelated tangents which I have not mentioned (the suffragettes?!) and for some reason feel the need to keep this up even though we obviously have different views (which is absolutely fine and allowed 😊)

Are you unable to connect the suffragettes and the birth of feminism with the current erosion of women's rights?

Look at the language you are using. The issue is that women aren’t safe around men yet you are coming across as aggressive and intimidating.

If swearing bothers you then I don't think MN is the right place for you. Nethuns is that way. 👉

I think it's interesting that there's a mention upthread that Primark changed their policy to have women only changing rooms again. Presumably they listened to feedback.

I think they had their reputation tarnished by the viral video of the distressed woman on social media, which was then picked up by MSM.

Not even comparable - I'm not being excluded, women can still go in, and also out in public.
You can choose not to though, - it doesn't mean women aren't allowed to.

The point being you don't seem to care about the women who are affected by this? Why is that?

BeachParty · 29/08/2024 21:26

Would fit right in Afghanistan with that attitude! Completely fine with women being excluded from public spaces - exactly like the Taliban.

I think the reason these debates end up being about women’s toilets doesn’t relate to who wants to use what, it relates to the level of hysteria that GC posters on boards like MN are able to create.

Hysteria? Really? You must be the only woman on the planet who isn't aware that men commit 98% of all sex offences and use whatever opportunity they can to do so. What a sheltered life you've led. Hmm

What do the articles you’ve linked have to do with trans women using female toilets?! And also, reread that 20.23 post and ask yourself if you don’t sound a bit hysterical.

Edited

@ElleWoods15 were all the victims in the above cases also irrational?

JL employees need to fight their own battles - they’re supposed to own the company, aren’t they? No way am I boycotting my favourite shop.

Do wo/men identifying as male want to use men's loos?

In all the many debates about loos, it seems that all people want to use women's loos but no one, not even (straight/regular/identifying) men themselves, wants to use men's loos. What could be done to make men's toilets more appealing for everyone?

DD14 has just told me about how the toilets at her school have been remodeled over the summer so that there are stalls and that handwashing areas will be communal and that she knows the boys will 'trash' these. Why is this? Why will they not keep all areas tidy?

I can understand (trans)men in dresses being leery of men's toilets but do women presenting/identifying as men want go in men's toilets?

I've never felt particularly girly but I can't imagine relishing men's loos. I've always avoided them because I know, in the urinal section, they all have their willies out and I think it would be rude to intrude since I'm not a man.

Perhaps, if I were dead chuffed to be expressing my masculine side, I would be keen to join the swinging dicks?

I think the reason these debates end up being about women’s toilets doesn’t relate to who wants to use what, it relates to the level of hysteria that GC posters on boards like MN are able to create.
