Now is the time to set out his vision for the UK, to inspire the UK towards harmony and productivity with a huge majority, which he will never have again. Instead there is a speech , presumably delayed by the riots, which continues to heap blame on the Tories. It was dour, depressing and offered no motivation to the public. There may be huge holes in the public finances and tough tax rises may be necessary, but he also needs to set out a grander plan for economic and societal prosperity. Why can he not do more ?

@Daltonbear1 right wing pricks? Maybe take a look at your bitterness & accept this is a forum open to all?Not just the ones that agree with you

GoldenLegend · 29/08/2024 19:15

I don’t want politicians who charm. I want politicians who DO THE JOB. Given that Starmer has only been in power a few weeks and that the previous government made a binfire of everything they could, I’m more than happy to wait and see how he does.

Bollihobs · 29/08/2024 19:15

KendraTheVampyrSlayer · 29/08/2024 15:43

This.

Perhaps he's trying a brand new evolutionary tactic in politics - honesty?

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Are you 12???

I agree, but two tier doesn’t have any of those characteristics.

Perhaps some people lobbing the two tier stuff about would like to define exactly what they mean by the term and explain why they endorse it.

Reform voter are we two tier there is no two tier policing. Funny thing is that when black people got arrested or they have been stopped in. Search pretty much more than any white person. Your lot would have said they should just suck it up. You were not calling the police 2 tier. Then it's actually an insult to actual things that have happened towards minorities not to racist. Arseholes that shouldn't have been. Rioting

StarDolphins · 29/08/2024 19:11

Exactly. Now the MN majority have got what they wanted, everyone needs to be quiet. Different when they spent years bleating about how crap tories were!

They have only been in 7 weeks for fuck sake and unravelling the damage the tories have done is gonna take time as this country was destroyed by them that's why

Daysnconfuddled · 29/08/2024 19:12

BitOutOfPractice · 29/08/2024 19:10

I personally don’t need my PM to have charisma (look where that got us Boris). I need them to have integrity and the best interests of the majority at heart.

Justcallmebebes · 29/08/2024 18:36

Well we've had years of multiple, daily Tory hate posts. Why should the current government be immune and not held to account for their failings and unpopular policies?

Exactly. Now the MN majority have got what they wanted, everyone needs to be quiet. Different when they spent years bleating about how crap tories were!

Bogginsthe3rd · 29/08/2024 19:10

Finally a Brexit consensus has been reached. I consider the matter closed now.

Ah yes. Tony Blair, that famous success story! Come on…

He was bloody good tbh. Yes it’s trendy to criticise him, in reality he was no different to Thatcher, many of whose policies were far more damaging long term.

Are we going to have one of these threads every day?

Just don’t bloody read it. Goodness me. I & many others like to discuss these issues. If you’re not interested, don’t?

Daltonbear1 · 29/08/2024 19:07

This is becoming a bore fest on here every day. Look you reform idiots Nigel farage is a dick who didn't win because he is lazy, clacton hasn't seen him do any work yet. Labour only been in 7 weeks so yes the tories are to blame. He's not boring he's telling the truth. It's going to be a long 5 years for you

Pensioners on £12,000 total annual income are no longer eligible for the winter fuel allowance.

Do you think someone on £12k p.a. is wealthy?

My NHS pension is £10k pa. Many pensioners earn more than working people.
And I’m sure that you know that many of these pensioners are sitting on huge amounts of unearned wealth due to the ridiculousness of house prices.

MrsLeonFarrell · 29/08/2024 19:05

I don't want a leader with a big personality, we've had that and it didn't work. I want an efficient leader who can make decisions to fix the problems in the country. It is far too early to see any results from the current government.

bluelavender · 29/08/2024 19:04

I'm not opposed to banning smoking in areas where it could impact on others

I find it very very weird that it was not in their manifesto. If they were wanting to do this; fine. But share the evidence; make the case and be open and transparent with it

We got what we voted for. It’s naive to think he’d be any better at being PM, than he was in opposition.

OhmygodDont · 29/08/2024 19:02

He reminds me of the grumpy tour guide of the museum of boring things. Can’t help it. Just very dull here we have a brick. It’s a red brick. There is a yellow brick. We like bricks. Here to more bricks. Better bricks. Brown bricks. For a wee bit of excitement bricks with ventilation holes.

Like a vey rehearsed scripted has no option of their own. Like trying to get though to someone at British Gas off script 😅

We had them when the Tories were in power so it’s Labour’s turn and rightly so

Andthereitis · 29/08/2024 18:59

I'd love someone to run the figures and implications of increasing tax allowance for each child a family has.
That way people can have as many children as they want and can earn plenty of money as a family unit to support that.

And to raise the tax allowance to avoid having to "make a note to not sue any pensioners for not paying tax on the £500 over on the state pension to the tax allowance."

Bogginsthe3rd · 29/08/2024 18:54

All I'm asking for is for Kier to consider an entrance like this at Labour Party Conference.

What was your opinion on needless cuts to benefits ? Most of the pensioners who’ll lose out have better incomes than working people plus huge collateral in their homes.

I'm not saying there aren't a huge number of wealthy pensioners. But the cut off should have been £20k, not those in receipt of pension credit. That bunch are almost destitute. How does being just over that red line they've drawn help to pay the fuel bills this winter?

And what specific needless cuts to benefits are you talking about? I'm all for the 2 child cap.
