Was I being unkind? Women filming themselves in their pants

I was scrolling through tiktok and came across a video of a woman showing a jumpsuit outfit which she is reccomending people buy.

The strange part to me is that the video begins with her standing there in tiny knickers and a bra then she gets dressed into the jumpsuit.

I perhaps shouldn't have said anything at all but left the following comment

"You look lovely. I'm not being unkind but why has it become so normalised to upload videos of ourselves in our underwear? You don't have to expose yourself like that to show the garment x"

Cue a pile on and her getting pissed off because apparently I'm only saying it because of her body type - which had absolutely nothing to do with it for me. We actually look quite similar in the buff!

I'm seeing more and more of these videos and it has become the new normal and done thing on social media for people who want to show clothes, to stand their in their pants beforehand and have you watch them get dressed.

Was I being unreasonable to say what I said and am I unreasonable for thinking its fucking weird and unnecessary?

"I want to show you this dress, but first here's my knickers!"

Edited to add - I mention women specifically because I'm not seeing any of these videos from men.. and nor do I want to 😐

Whats the matter? worried your prudish, unnecessary comment might have upset the person.

Bad enough you felt the need to comment on her video, never mind bringing it here to shame her even further just because it's not what you like/agree with.

I think I was perfectly kind in my delivery when I commented on the video. People here have been much more blunt than I was, and now she'll be reading that and likely feel like shit about it.

That's not on me.

I said my bit on her video about her video. This thread is to discuss the current trend in general.

The blame for any upset incurred from her reading this thread lies solely with the little shit stirrer who told her about it.

It was a perfectly vague and non identifying thread about not just her video (because there are hundreds) but the broader issue itself, now she's going to know its not just me who thinks it's twattish, it's over 60% of people who've read the thread and some have been quite scathing.

You're very loud but the poll speaks for itself.

Off you pop.

Shout out to Evie who is feeling quite proud of herself today as she managed to find the ladys video and write in the comments about this thread.

I had no intention of 'outing' who it was but now you've brought more traffic to the site.

Perhaps she will sign up and comment. Let's see.

I don't have an issue with the woman's body. I just don't think it's necessary for me or anybody else to see her in her underwear.

There are kids on the app. Should 13yo boys be watching 35-40yo women getting dressed?

I have a daughter and I'd be upset If she posted something like that.

I don't think it should be normalised. What next?

There's a reason changing rooms are enclosed.

There are many reasons for me and none of them are to do with her personally.

why is it any different from someone stood there in a swimsuit, gym clothes, or a bikini?

Its to show the body type before the clothes go on, to normalise the wobbles and curves.

Your comment was unecessary.

It's just attention seeking. This is the internet now.

This. If she was genuinely just showing the jumpsuit then she wouldn’t have started in her pants. To be clear, I don’t give two hoots if she wants to film herself in the nip, but it’s the pretending that I struggle with. Just film yourself in your pants and be proud of it, don’t use the excuse of displaying a jumpsuit 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh well that's alright then, I'll just whip my kit off in the middle of the aisle next time I'm browsing clothes at sainsburys and strut about in my bra and pants.

What do you think would happen if I did that?

I'd be told to leave the shop.

Why?

As I said, there's a reason changing rooms are enclosed.

Nothing would happen, I regularly try tops on in the aisles if the changing rooms are busy or they don't have one.

What an ignorant comment. Nothing the op said suggests that. A wider conversation about the normalisation of showing women’s bodies in underwear affects us all whether people like it or not. The op is right to raise it as a topic for debate. A lot of people supporting this don’t seem to factor in the balance of power in society, or its effect on women and girls.

If anything, I think your comment reflects more on you than on the op.

Edited

okay well you also sound like a very unkind and deeply unpleasant person

OpalGoose · 28/08/2024 18:32

I wonder what they'll make of the comments on here and the divided opinions. I've been a nude model for life drawing classes since I went to college many years ago and even those who were surprised, even shocked, when they found out were very supportive about it. Totally different to a lot of the negative comments on this thread from people who presumably don't even know the woman in the video.

Platypuslover · 28/08/2024 18:28

It’s borderline prostitution as they show themselves almost naked for money. As that is why they are doing it that way.

All for clicks views sadly! Agree unnecessary - are they advertising the underwear as well?

usernother · 28/08/2024 18:05

It's for attention and engagement. Just scroll on by, that's what I do.

Why do we need to see her knickers if she's promoting a tracksuit?

My sentiments exactly!

I think your comment was unnecessary at best. Why do you have an issue with a woman's body? It's not like she was naked.

Probably doesn't have an issue, just doesn't want to see it...

user1472151176 · 28/08/2024 17:54

Maybe to show she isn't wearing anything underneath the jumpsuit, like body shaping underwear- can see what the outfit looks like naturally if she's an influencer.
I don't know. I wouldn't put videos of myself in my underwear but it doesn't bother me that other people do. I wouldn't have said anything or commented.

Mumoftwochildrenand6furkids · 28/08/2024 17:54

If you dont like it stroll on past.or is it you been jealous.

chocolatemademefat · 28/08/2024 15:04

TikTok’s a place where you have to be nice. I see people trying on clothes that in no way flatter their body types and everyone tells them they’re stunning. Or the dieters who week after week lose pounds - but look no different and people gush about how well they’re doing. I

@ForestForever You are a terrible human being. You have no idea how I'm raising my kids. It's the opposite of what you're suggesting.

I agree with you OP. It smacks of desperation and makes me scroll by quickly, as I don't really want to see them in their underwear.

LivingInStrangeTimes · 28/08/2024 08:55

"No man"

How do you know what any particular man would say / think. There are billions of them in the world and forums that house many of them. Have you sifted through them all to make sure?

Men aren't doing this. Thankfully. I don't want to see that any more than I do this.

If men were doing it, though, I'd be saying exactly the same thing.

Men absolutely are doing this. I have seen men doing 'get dressed with me' tiktoks and yes they start off in their underwear.

I get so irritated by people who police other peoples social media, it's so unnecessary and uppity. We all have opinions but just like you didn't want to see the lady in her underwear I dot want to see your boring, arrogant comments.

ForestForever · 28/08/2024 12:56

Disturbia81 · 28/08/2024 12:43

@ForestForever And you're totally missing the point too.
This is one of those subjects people are very divided on. I think opinions like yours are dangerous, to not acknowledge what effect a barely clothed woman has on men like that. You only have to look at all the sad pathetic men commenting on the almost nude thirst traps on facebook.
We will never agree with each other.

Well gosh, with an argument as solid as that you’ve completely changed my point of view - not.

“I think opinions like yours are dangerous, to not acknowledge what effect a barely clothed woman has on men like that.“ Are you serious?

Opinions like that are dangerous because it gives men the agency to believe that they have the right to behave in a sordid manner because they couldn’t possibly help or control themselves over a bit of exposed flesh. Get a grip. Men like this are the way they are because they are raised by women like you with your warped views which enable and excuse their misguided way of thinking.

stopthepigeonstopthepigeon · 28/08/2024 12:55

If she wants to show the world her knickers that’s her business 🤷‍♀️

TonyeKnausgaard · 28/08/2024 12:53

LivingInStrangeTimes · 28/08/2024 12:30

I don’t choose to put a bikini photo of me because it wouldn’t go down well with my line of work

Why do you think that is?

What do you want us to say? That it's shameful if others see we have a female body?

Where do you draw the line? It's not ok for me to post my beach pictures - let's say that's true. Am I still shaming myself if I post one in shorts and a vest? What about a cropped top? Is that ok with you? What length skirt am I allowed to wear?

My original intention was to wear whatever the fuck I like and not take your opinion into account, but I'll humour you by hearing what exactly you're dictating I can wear without bringing shame on myself and humanity.
