Help settle a discussion between between me and my husband.
I think scraping your cutlery on your plate is the equivalent of licking your plate.. The foods gone, no need for all of the scraping to get every last morsel of food in your gob!
He thinks my intolerance to food noises is getting out of hand.
I will admit I've always been sensitive to people chewing/slurping but regardless I still believe scraping is bad table manners, anyone else, or am I really being unreasonable?

  • For context we have had chicken salad for dinner, he had finished but was scraping mayonnaise left on the plate onto his fork.

Kids screaming. Especially when they discovered their voice and do random high pitched screams. Any higher, only dogs can hear it.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 26/08/2024 23:26

Engine idling noises and the yappy spaniel a few doors down annoy me but generally, noises only do my head in when I'm already overwhelmed.

Noisy eating is the most unbearable sound in the world, but I do have misophonia.

I too have misophonia and people have no idea the torture it is. Most think it's just making a fuss over nothing but I'd literally prefer to bash my head against a brick wall than hear people eat with their mouths open, or bite a crisp 5 times before they start actually eating it.

It's on a very few occasions like this I'm grateful to have tourettes (and I wear a lanyard to state the fact), as one of these days, I'm sure I'll get so fed up that I'll say out loud, eat with your gob shut but they won't be able to do much about it as I won't have any control over it.

Breathing

Sameshitdifferentdayx · 26/08/2024 22:45

My main one has to be loud open mouthed eaters.. agh!
Teeth grinding
Screaming/shouting - as a chronic migraines sufferer, this literally goes right through me on the worst days and really hurts!!!
People who drag their feet.
Constant sniffing.
Someone mentioned above dry feet being rubbed together.. YES, absolutely awful. And the same with dry hands to be fair!
The noise of chalk on a chalkboard 🤮

longdistanceclaraclara · 26/08/2024 22:40

Pretty much everything but wet sneezes are probably number one.

I hate the chimes of the ice cream man.

The ice cream man playing that music means he is ALWAYS sold out by the time he gets round to us 😉.. my 10 year old still believes this so I'm just waiting for the day.. 🤣😂

I can help you with the last one.

You can scan using your phone on the SmartShop app. No need for the handset.

I find it really fiddly with my phone, unfortunately

ilovebagpuss · 26/08/2024 22:36

The hacking snort sniff my DH does it and I loudly ask if wants a tissue every time.
The loud bikers noise down our local A Road just that sudden roar they do.
Angle grinder

FinallyPregnant23 · 26/08/2024 22:35

Sound coming from other peoples phones or tablets in public. It should be outlawed, if you’re using a device in public you should have to use headphones if you want the sound on!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 26/08/2024 22:32

Noisy eaters but also people who make an expressive statement before or after eating. Like guzzling a pint of juice and then saying "god I was so thirsty" or "I really needed that"

Or putting food in their mouth and saying "oh this is divine".

Put a fuckin sock in it and just eat your goddammit food preferably 20 miles south of me.

PhilsMajicHat · 26/08/2024 22:21

Slamming doors, there is a handle for a fucking reason mr and mrs next door 😤
someone I sit near at work does this really annoying humming noise, but it’s not a song or a tune, just this occasional HMmmmmm noise (ending on a higher note) as he drags stuff around on the screen.
men chinking loose change about in their pockets.
my husband clipping his nails.
the boy racer who picks up and drops his mate off for work and sits there in his shitty little yellow souped up vw polo idling for ages each time, rumbling and bumbling on for ages.

People whistling

Youd be no good round me lol .i whistle and sing a lot. Im happy! 😁. .thats how it comes out of me.

Everyone is different.

I hate the heavy breathing through nose when someone is eating...ex did it and it bugged me no end.

Unnecessary loudness ads on tv ...or tv programmes/films where its so loud one minute, you turn it down, then next minute you have to turn it up because you cant hear anyone talk...bang bang, crash then mumble whisper! Arghhh.

Many things....

Noisy eaters.....actually just people in general Smile

Miley1967 · 26/08/2024 22:11

Motorbikes speeding around just give me the rage and frightens my dog. We seem to have a problem with them just racing around in gangs in our area. I detest them.

I think I have some sensory issues so my list is rather long. Biting nails, chewing gum with mouth open, popping gum, teeth flossing, noisy eaters, continuous sniffing, whistling, the sound of a dartboard... I could go on. I get genuinely distressed if I can't escape some of those noises, especially the first two. Earplugs in public are my best friend.

Also to add : noisy people in general. My FIL loves to be the centre of attention so will whistle, sing and be unbearably loud as soon as he enters my home.
He also hammers on the door at least 47 times when he arrives…..

sanityisamyth · 26/08/2024 22:09

Balls bouncing.

Gorgeousfeet · 26/08/2024 22:08

People talking loudly on phones in public places ( fuck off - no one gives no fucks - find a more private place to discuss your shit)
Chewing gum. Eating cornflakes.
Eating food in cinemas ( refuse to go because of this)
Loud people who sit in restaurants and cackle loudly … attention seeking behaviour in my opinion.
Dogs yapping.
Babies screaming.
slurping drinks.
Not walking properly- pick your fucking feet up.

People piss me off a lot….

LlynTegid · 26/08/2024 22:02

Any trailer of Mrs Brown's Boys and the bad laugh or theme tune. The practical joke by someone in the BBC to commission this so-called 'comedy' has worn thin.

Hand dryers irritate me. And motor bikes

They are so loud! I don't mind it personally but I don't use them if there are young children there.

LoneHydrangea · 26/08/2024 22:01

Controversial, but nose-blowing. It really turns my stomach and I think it should be an activity one does in private. I have a brother in law that discharges what sounds like a litre of snot into an actual handkerchief (he's 40, not 80) AT THE TABLE.

Oh and one of SIL's dogs has a bark guaranteed to make your ears bleed. It makes me wince in pain.
