Anyone else sick of hearing this phrase. It's everywhere just now.

It's the new "grim".

I've said this to my children for years. Ds in particular identifies with the saying - as someone who often makes questionable impulsive decisions due to his adhd 🤣

Monkeysatonthewall · 25/08/2024 21:06

I see it but same with 'it gives me the ick" - literally everywhere 😲

Oooh yes, that's like nails on a blackboard for me!

Scribblydoo · 25/08/2024 21:42

These sayings have been around forever. Scotlands motto is essentially FAFO Nemo me impune lacessit. You could try bringing that back?

fiddleleaffig · 25/08/2024 21:38

It's you and me, there's nothing like this. Miss Americana and The Heartbreak Prince....

Thanks for the ear worm 😉

itsgettingweird · 25/08/2024 21:25

I really like it.

Alongside my late mums favourite saying to us as kids

"Ask a stupid question......" when we asked a stupid question and got a stupid answer!

Allnewtometoo · 25/08/2024 21:11

I like it. Its not new though which TS song is it in?

LemongrassLollipop · 25/08/2024 21:11

I only know it from the TS song. Much prefer it to fuck about, find out.

Was it a saying in it's own right before Taylor used it?

Only see that on MN.

phoenixrosehere · 25/08/2024 21:08

Heard it as a kid a lot from my parents pointing out people doing stupid things and underestimating the consequences and can’t say they were wrong.

I see it pop up every now and then but nowhere near that it is “everywhere”.

LostTheMarble · 25/08/2024 20:07

I prefer the modern ‘fuck around and find out’. Much more to the point.

Me too.

@Timeturnerplease Your 5yo has an excellent grasp of knowing actions have consequences, I'd be proud.

Timeturnerplease · 25/08/2024 21:00

5yo DD asked me the meaning of this after hearing it in the TS song. She now sings it at her 3yo sister when she makes errors such as falling off the sofa after being told not to jump on it. I can’t work out if I find it annoying or amusing.

Demonhunter · 25/08/2024 20:59

I prefer...

The correct retort is winner winner chicken dinner.

If you're playing mornington crescent a la mode.

angelikacpickles · 25/08/2024 20:51

I've never heard anyone actually say it. I know it's a phrase but the only place I've heard it is in the TS song (which isn't particularly recent).

ThatsNotMyNumber · 25/08/2024 20:48

How can it be the new grim? It doesn’t mean the same thing.

It’s stupid games and stupid prizes and I quite like using it.

helpfulperson · 25/08/2024 20:47

Like others, I haven't heard that in a very long time. It a version of 'reap what you sow'. I didn't realise it was in a TS song.

I'm not sure what the connection with grim is though. Surely that means something completely different.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 25/08/2024 20:25

Also came to say I just heard it sung in TS's voice 🤣. I can't say I've heard it anywhere else of late though! Not even a new TS song at that!

Littletreefrog · 25/08/2024 20:16

Beth216 · 25/08/2024 20:15

Seen it a few times on here, prefer grim personally.

Am I missing something? Grim doesn't mean the same as play stupid games win stupid prizes.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say it.

lmhj · 25/08/2024 20:00

Never ever heard it but reminds me of an old sheriff who used to say

Fly with the crows, get shot.

Or my mother in law who said if you are going to paddle wear wellies.

Cheepcheepcheep · 25/08/2024 19:59

Yeah my mind went to TS 😂
