To have a Fuck Off Fund?

I currently have 6 months' salary in Premium Bonds that I'm topping up with bonuses, birthday money and any dribs and drabs that come in. My aim is to get it to full holdings.

It gives me comfort to have relatively liquid cash that I can use in the event that I need to suddenly start over.

Sometimes I am so cross/fed up with DP that I daydream about buying a little flat somewhere by myself and decorating it exactly as I want and working on creative projects every other weekend while he has DS.

This feeling normally subsides pretty quickly but I like having the "option" there as a reality that I wouldn't have if I'd put that money into our mortgage.

To be clear, this is separate from savings/investments etc and is earmarked for this specific purpose.

Anyone with a brain cell would have one.
Have a pocket he knows about and a pocket he dont.
Ive always have had pocket know one knows about.
Im also a minimalist so if shit hits the fan ive got nothing to lose but always got funds to cover me.

Because she then has a FOF of £50k? (And more chance of winning)

Yes, appreciate the more holdings you have, the chances of winning increases, but the bonds have poor interest rates compared to an ISA or similar.
Would it be better to spread savings across higher interest accounts as well as having some in n s & i?

As long as you're fine with your partner keeping the same proportion of salary/bonus to himself. If he's putting everything in to a joint pot while you keep chunks of income (excl birthday money) to yourself then that is wrong.
You could probably get a better ROI elsewhere but if you want something risk free and easily accessible then premium bonds are a decent option.

I have a FOF and I'm not even in a relationship 😂
I think everyone should have one!
One time, a few years back, I was having a very difficult time. I used my FOF to fuck off abroad for 6 months! Did me the world of good.
I keep it separate from any other savings which are usually earmarked for something.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you winning a nice little bonus Bees 🤞. I'm a single parent so don't need a FOF but it sounds like a great idea.

In 40 years adulthood, I've had to use mine twice, once when I discovered then 'd'p was sleeping with one of my friends and once, after DS was born when his df morphed into a controlling aggressive weirdo, and I had to pick up DS and run.

It is never a bad idea to have an emergency fund that your dp doesn't know about. If he is a good man he may appreciate it one day.

Why do you want full holdings? Your numbers are entered into each draw regardless of number held!

eh?

If you’re not married you’re separate legal entities so it’s fine. Less point if you are married as assets are shared and part of divorce.

I didn't have one but I'm wishing I did. Although saying that he would just be taking half of it with him now coz we are divorcing 🙄
