Daughter at Leeds Festival

My 18 year old daughter and 4 friends have gone to Leeds festival. They arrived Thursday. She was texting and sending me messages up to 08:30am this morning and nothing since. I've texted 3 times and tried to call. Snapchat tells me last seen 7hrs ago so I'm wondering if her battery has gone. She did take 2 battery packs with her though.

Also I don't have her friends numbers which I am kicking myself about now. Am I right to be worried or will this just probably be a dead battery?! I know none of you know but I'm holding myself back from driving down there (2.5hrs away) and looking for her which would be a needle in a haystack! The storms are what have worried me mostly but also that's she's there with all kinds of other people and my mind is running away!

She’ll be fine - her charging packs will be in the tent and her battery will have died while she’s in the arena. Walking back to the tent can be a long treck - sometimes 20 minutes or so - so she is perhaps having a great time and doesn’t really care about her phone, or they’re waiting till everyone’s ready to pop back to the tents so they can go together.

I'm at Reading and it's not always easy to get messages through. I have full signal but it's just jammed.

I did loads of festivals pre having a mobile (late 90s). She’ll be fine and having too much fun! As long as she has trusted friends who have her back she’ll be grand.

I text DS who is 19 and get radio silence for hours. If I don't answer him straight away I get 'Mum?' 'Mum?' 'Mum?'. They don't think like we do. They think it's perfectly acceptable to disappear.

I bet she has ran out of battery and can't be arsed to go back to her tent to get a power bank. She's with friends and if something had gone wrong then one of them would have been in touch with home and you would know.

That's my 20 year old too. Leaves me unread for days or sometimes longer, but the moment I don't reply he phones, texts and WhatsApps me.

I bet her phone has died. Just agree with her next time to write your number down and call you if her phone dies / gets lost. She might forget to do that too of course

Just got a text from her 🎉 it was a reply to my earlier text that asked was she still alive and her answer was "Yes" 🤣🤣 Phew!!

Mine is also there, the signal is very very bad.
mine has managed to send me a cpl of messages but they are slow to arrive, she sent some at 7.30am and I didn’t receive them until 10.30. It’s always bad and I guess the storm has made it worse.

Didimum · 23/08/2024 20:33

Even if she’s got battery packs, she likely wouldn’t charge it til she was back in her tent for the night.

sillysausage92 · 23/08/2024 20:30

Ok thank you I feel calmer now! I am looking up her friends on social media and hoping she's some charge/signal soon!

I agree will all the above. Worrying for you, but 'No news is good news' is my mantra in these sort of 'worried Mum' situations!

BetFreda · 23/08/2024 20:29

There’s been a lot of disruption because of the storm last night. I last heard from my DC then they finally got on the shuttle bus but now they’ve got no signal.

TickingAlongNicely · 23/08/2024 20:29

Lost phone or phone soaked through. Or no charge as others have said.

Most likely to be a phone issue rather than a her issue.

Chickadeep · 23/08/2024 20:28

Dead batteries and bad signal no doubt.
I think it was easier not to worry in the days I used to go, your Nokia would die then no one expected to hear from you!

Soloadventurer · 23/08/2024 20:28

It will be a mix of no signal, having too much fun and no charge. Look at it this way, if something had happened you will have heard about it by now.

Cheepcheepcheep · 23/08/2024 20:27

I’m sure it’s signal, please don’t worry.

If she was in any trouble she’d be in view of the relevant teams and they’d contact you.

Sallyingon · 23/08/2024 20:25

I'd be looking up her friends' mum's on Facebook and making contact with them to see if they have heard anything

Kitkat1523 · 23/08/2024 20:25

I know when I’m at festivals I can’t get a signal to phone or text or WhatsApp….just the sheer volume of people ….she’ll be good

craigth162 · 23/08/2024 20:23

Definitely sounds like her battery has died. They might have charging points there though that she'll find. Can u track any of her friends on social media
