Family holiday drama

So we are due to go on holiday next year with family. We invited my parents, they booked their own room - they then invited my nephew (who is 17). My brother didn't pay for my nephew or even offer to pay for their place.

I found out I was pregnant recently and can't book the baby's space until they are born. Also there will be no spaces as, the baby is due 4 months before the holiday. Anyone we trust with our child will be on that holiday. We need to take my nephew off the booking and change it to the baby when they are born.

AIBU to take my nephew off the booking (I have spoken to my parents about this and they understand) but I know my brother won't be happy and it will cause drama. Or should just not go and lose thousands 😣

Need an outside perspective pleaseeee

Or maybe she could go and dh can stay at home with his baby.

From one of ops comments they’re going with DHs family originally and op after that invited her side of the family.

can’t you add the baby to DHs family’s rooms?

MigGril · 21/08/2024 22:21

Op if the curse is full and you can't book another cabin see if they will let you change the holiday to a latter date where there would be an extra cabin available. You may have to pay an admin fee as well but at lest this way everyone will get to go on the curse. Your baby will be slightly older and you'll maybe have a more relaxing holiday.

It's not unusual for people to have to rearrange holidays like this my auntie and uncle have had to rearrange several cruise mainly due to health problems.

There are two options to explain this thread as I see it:

either this post is a joke

or

the OP at one and the same time wants reassurance that she’s not about to do something terribly rude and unbecoming, and yet, doesn’t actually truly care about whether what she does is right or wrong, but only about how it’s perceived by others.

let me solve it for you, OP, you’re being quite selfish and not fooling anyone. If you don’t care much for your family, why plan a holiday with them in the first place?

Namenamchange · 21/08/2024 22:20

one of the children can share with in laws, much better than kicking dn off, who has been paid for

rosesyrup · 21/08/2024 22:20

Just saying: This is the only way. and We will lose thousands of pounds.
does not answer any of the questions people are asking you.

Madamecholetsbonnet · 21/08/2024 22:16

Don’t encourage her!!

This is easily solved. Either you book an extra room for you and baby or you add baby to PILS room (poor fuckers) on paper but in practice baby is in with you.

How old is the DD who is sharing a bed with a 17 year old boy?

A lot of cabins with 4 berths have pull down beds rather than double sofa beds for the 3rd and 4th person.

OP if the cruise is fully booked and you can’t book an extra cabin, I suggest you ask the cruise line if they will allow you to transfer your booking to another cruise rather than lose the money. I know cruises are bloody expensive but no way can you ask your nephew not to come.

AdultChildQuestion · 21/08/2024 22:19

Can a child go in with the parents-in-law? If not, book another room for you and the baby.

Chucking your nephew off the boat is unpleasant, selfish and unkind.

May not be sharing a bed, the recent cruise we went on the 3rd & 4th beds were bunk beds and the majority of cabins were set up like this.

Rory17384949 · 21/08/2024 22:18

But won't the baby be in a cot in your room? And also not eating real food yet so not really "count" as a guest?

Whaleandsnail6 · 21/08/2024 22:18

You are ignoring the very obvious suggestion of booking an extra room now for an adult, that baby can be added to once born.

You are the ones who have created the need for the extra space...not your parents or your nephew... Who have all been paid for at no extra cost to you. And also, seemingly doing a favour to you by having one of your children in their room or you would have had this whole room dilemma before you even fell pregnant as you always had too many children for your room.

Invisimamma · 21/08/2024 22:18

Sounds like the op is too tight trying to avoid paying for an extra room and what's to bump DN for his holiday instead.

jamsandwiched · 21/08/2024 22:17

dobblevit · 21/08/2024 22:00

Can you and the baby not go then you only lose your booking. I know you'll lose money but you won't really as you would have paid it anyway. You'll be losing a cruise. But you'll have a small baby and probably won't be sleeping well as it is

Or maybe she could go and dh can stay at home with his baby.

Madamecholetsbonnet · 21/08/2024 22:16

pearldiamond · 21/08/2024 22:08

Are you having twins OP? Otherwise, why are you referring to the baby as 'they' ?

Roastiesarethebestbit · 21/08/2024 22:15

So your parents have paid themselves for a room for 4, and are having one of
your kids and have offered to have your nephew? Seems like they are doing you a big favour having one of your small kids in with them, in the room that they have paid for. It’s a bit cheeky that you want then to kick out their other grandchild to make room for another one of your kids. If all your kids don’t fit into one room, that is your problem to solve, not your parents! If there is no such thing as a family room that sleeps 6, then you are going to have to book 2 rooms for your family. Or share your small children out among the other relatives present - and if they are currently
in 2 person rooms then I guess pay for the upgrade in room size that will
be required.

Thursa · 21/08/2024 22:15

Did you invite your parents so they would have two of your children in with them? And now they messed the plan by inviting your nephew? Can’t the in-laws have on of their grandchildren in with them?

FawnFrenchieMum · 21/08/2024 22:14

Bogginsthe3rd · 21/08/2024 22:13

Will the baby be cruising at 6 months or just crawling do you think?

Depends if they can get an extra cabin whether they will be cruising or not 😂

Staunchlystarling · 21/08/2024 22:14

And yeah why can’t one of your kids sleep with your in-laws?

you have plenty of solutions that don’t involve kicking your nephew off. You chose to have 4 kids, so provide for them. Get an extra room. Or shove one in with the In-laws.

HeddaGarbled · 21/08/2024 22:13

the baby is due 4 months before the holiday

Can you travel with a 4m old? I though they had to be 6m

Sorry the baby will be 6 months at the time of the holiday

😃

It might be that she doesn't know the baby's sex. I chose not to know mine until he was born.

Christ. This is hard work.

cannynotsay · 21/08/2024 22:11

You're just using this to get the nephew off the holiday... it's clear as day

All my children are under 6 that's why, I can't leave one at home can I - how silly

No the silly part was getting pregnant when you already have plans made that will now cost you lots of extra money.

To be helpful, which cruise line is it? That might off more tailored advice. Did you book direct or via an agent?

CountessWindyBottom · 21/08/2024 22:10

Curious to know how your baby is due four months before the cruise but will be six months old at the time of the cruise.....
