Family holiday drama

So we are due to go on holiday next year with family. We invited my parents, they booked their own room - they then invited my nephew (who is 17). My brother didn't pay for my nephew or even offer to pay for their place.

I found out I was pregnant recently and can't book the baby's space until they are born. Also there will be no spaces as, the baby is due 4 months before the holiday. Anyone we trust with our child will be on that holiday. We need to take my nephew off the booking and change it to the baby when they are born.

AIBU to take my nephew off the booking (I have spoken to my parents about this and they understand) but I know my brother won't be happy and it will cause drama. Or should just not go and lose thousands 😣

Need an outside perspective pleaseeee

None of this is adding up, first of all you said your baby is due 4 months before the cruise then you changed it and said baby will be 6 months old. But aside from that. You seem to have 3 children already with one on the way, so you are the ones who should suck up the cost and need to pay for an extra room for you or your husband to go in with some of the kids. No your nephew should NOT be kicked off. How utterly mean. I actually can't believe people can be so selfish. You said yourself that you were going to book an extra room until your parents kindly offered to have one of your children. But now that you are having another child, you will have to book another room. Jesus the entitlement of some people!

Who is staying in your in laws room? Can the baby not be added to their room and then they just sleep with you in a cot?

Or surely you can just book another room for one of the adults and then add baby to it when they are born?

Yes.

You can book people into various rooms

BUT THEY DO NOT ACTUALLY NEED TO STAY IN THAT ROOM!

so you can cram a few kids in your room when in the cruise. As long as the booking is correct.

Separately the baby needs to be booked on to check the ship overall had capacity on the baby range. If they do not, then who sleeps where doesn't matter. They can't go and so none of your family can go (though both your parents could still go with nephew)

Op if this is what the situation is I have no idea why you are here asking the question. You keep arguing your point to anyone that questions you. You don't need validation. If no one has paid you any money for his place and the holiday is ages away , and now the baby needs the spot ( I have no idea about these things by the way) then the baby needs the spot end of. I wouldn't waste your time here anymore and I would instead be speaking to your brother to let him know.. if he can't go then he can't go. That's it.

OPs parents have paid for his place and their own cabin where they will have one of OPs children who is under 6 and they'll be looking after that child overnight. She now wants them to have two of her children in their care so one of hef children takes the spot for DN who her parents paid for.

Sugarsugarahhoneyhoney · 22/08/2024 08:29

Surely you could pay for another room and one of your parents could go in that room with the nephew or one of your children?

CandiedPrincess · 22/08/2024 08:29

All rooms are full, this is the only way - we can't just book another room and then change it to the baby because they need an adult in there and we don't have anyone else

Of course there is enough adults. Book another room and you go there in with the baby.

Did you book with MSC?

If not, you’re screwed anyway.

Even they have changed now. They have honoured existing bookings with parents signing a disclaimer but future bookings is 6 or 12 months depending on the length and amount of sea days.

PuppyMonkey · 22/08/2024 08:26

It’s weird that the baby is due four months before the holiday but will be six months old on the cruise.Grin

ComealongMartha · 22/08/2024 08:26

They said we CANNOT add this child to the booking or PAY for another room until the baby is born. Which will be 6 months before we sail. The ship is nearly at full capacity already with only suites currently left

Book a suite now for you or your Dh. When the baby is born you add it to the booking for the suite. One of you goes in the suite with the baby and the other stays in the room that you have already booked with the children.

You haven’t paid for your parents or nephew so you are basically asking other passengers to cancel their booking to facilitate your new baby.

CatherinedeBourgh · 22/08/2024 08:22

Just book an extra room for your husband, then you will have a spare space in your room for your baby.

You can then rearrange the sleeping arrangements closer to the date to distribute the adults and children in a way that suits you. Your baby might be a shockingly bad sleeper, in which case you'll be grateful to have a cabin just for yourself (or your dh) and them, with the other parent and the other children in a separate one.

@familydrama1 I honestly think some of the replies on here are ridiculous!

You can’t leave your own children that would be ridiculous. Life happens, your pregnant you need the space now your nephew, as shit as it is can’t come. I don’t that see what other option you have?! Are you and your husband in separate rooms - that’s the only other thing I can think off.

This can’t be a serious post 😂 they can book an extra room.

mrsm43s · 22/08/2024 08:19

The long and short of it is that OP will have a family of 6, and so will need 2 cabins for their family alone. Each cabin needs an adult in, so that will be OP in cabin one and OP's DH in cabin two. Her family can then be fully accommodated.

The fact that her nephew is in a cabin that she hasn't paid for is neither here nor there. She has no more right to boot him off the holiday than she has to boot any other passenger off the holiday. Her parents have paid for that cabin, and they and only they get to choose who goes in it, and they have chosen to invite their nephew.

The simple fact is that she and her DH need to ensure they have booked and paid for spaces for all of their children, and that necessitates two room. So OP needs to stop trying to steal spaces in her DPs room, suck it up and book and pay for the extra cabin.

Edingril · 22/08/2024 08:17

So if your parents booked there bit and added the nephew how on earth could you change anything it is not your booking it is your parents?

OP did not pay for her nephew to go on the cruise, her parents did. Therefore she has absolutely no right to tell the nephew that he now cannot go on the cruise.

Move the holiday to 2026. Get the extra room.

familydrama1 · 21/08/2024 21:58

I have spoken to the cruise line they said we CANNOT add the baby. If we booked another room. We would need another adult - which we don't have.

I do not want to take my nephew off. I booked it for my parents, why would I want to be spiteful.

My room has my other 2 children and husband in there. All other rooms are full. This is the only way. It's not out of spite. We will lose thousands of pounds

You or dh sleeps with dc in a second cabin. Or dpil sleep separately one with dd one with dn.

I fear the OP may have jumped overboard.

Or jumped the shark....

The whole vibe of your answers 😂

Pure genius @Bogginsthe3rd 😄

Truetoself · 22/08/2024 07:51

If you were going to pay for two rooms initially then you need to pay for an additional room and one of you or your husband goes in there.
I don't understand the cruise being difficult about an unborn baby ....... it's up to you if you lose money if you decide you can't travel with a new baby or you can't subsequently travel for whatever reason .....
with three kids when they are young, husband and wife often have to split up due to capacity of most hotel rooms beign 3 or 4 max

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/08/2024 07:41

I fear the OP may have jumped overboard.

Whatafustercluck · 22/08/2024 07:38

The biggest issue as I see it now is how old op's baby will be at the time of the cruise. Presumably that is why cruise lines won't add babies until they're born - too many variables. All other conjecture is irrelevant. If baby is highly likely to be less than 6 months then op needs to cut her losses and plan another holiday.

Fwiw, if the age of the baby was not an issue, I'd be saying book another room and add the baby later. I can't imagine I'd be popular with my sister for bumping my niece off a holiday, and I wouldn't blame her irrespective of who paid for her place!

Marchitectmummy · 22/08/2024 07:36

If the baby doesn't fit in your room regardless then why don't you book another room now for your husband and 1 child. Then when your baby is born, there is space jn both your and your husbands room for the new baby.

You then wouldn't have to wait for the baby to be born, you have already created space for it with people who already exist.

GoFigure235 · 22/08/2024 07:35

Cruise ship cabins are miniscule. There are very good reasons why you can't have more than 4 passengers (including a baby). Yes, the baby is small but by the time you have the buggy, the cot and one child sleeping on the sofa or in a pull-down bed, there is literally no floor space left.

ilikeeggs · 22/08/2024 07:31

Even your latest update does not address what the majority of posters have suggested...book the extra room (or suite) NOW for another adult...either you or dh and then add baby in when he or she is born.

Your parents have paid for themselves. You are not paying for your nephew. Therefore you have no right to insist he does not come to prevent you having to book an extra room/suite now before they sell out

This cruise problem is your doing (not that I am calling a baby a problem!)so is yours to sort out without saying someone who you haven't paid for cant come.

Clearly you dont like this idea since you have ignored it in every single update in spite of most posters suggesting it

Yeah this seems pretty easy to solve to me- book another room on your husbands name. Job done.

But I don't think this is about that is it- you just dont want your nephew to come. You cant promise someone a holiday and then boot them off, thats awful and if it was your child (when they are a teen) you'd be on here saying how nasty it was
