To think manifesting works?

That's it really..
I'm reading a lot about it and I'm hoping it does work although I'm not wholly sure how to go about it for effectiveness.

Thinking positively to help manifest carefully crafted personal goals is not in any remote sense "dangerous".

And what if it doesn't happen? Can you not see how a vulnerable person could think "I'm not doing this hard enough, I can't even do this right" and end up worse off?

I think good things happen to positive people who aren’t anxious and worrying about things not working out. So, to that extent, it works for sure!

I needed to hear this - thank you!

Wombbaalaa · 19/08/2024 22:14

@PashaMinaMio intriguing , i’d love to hear the story if it’s one you don’t mind sharing?

It's bollocks for the gullible I'm afraid.

This.

One desires things; learns how to manifest them by becoming more accepting of their desires, hopeful about their outcomes and grateful for what they have.

Then one realizes that what really makes them happy is to be accepting, hopeful and grateful. And that’s the magic of it.

And to state the bleeding fucking obvious, in case no one else has yet, it's the rich/privileged that have the confidence behind them or financial backing to get what they want in life anyway, that are the type to promote this shit. Spoiler: you didn't wish your luxurious life into existence you just have a rich mum and dad.

Well it all worked for me.
i am in no way a woo person but id had enough and just went for life instead of maintaining my negative mindset.

i got a new job. New life. Went from 19k job in a terrible flat to 8 years later house owning and 6 figure salary. New life, country and man 😀

and nothing to do with my narc parents who I’m NC with.

saidthebellsofstclements · 19/08/2024 20:41

Yes.. I'm going to see it as a positive that I've seen this post. I've been working on something for a couple of weeks now, I can not wait for it to materialise!

jusqualafin · 19/08/2024 20:41

How does it work? You decide you want to manifest something (something that's actually possible/ achievable) and if it ends up happening, you manifested it and if it doesn't, you didn't believe in it hard enough/ weren't positive enough?

Absolutely, the first nations people, those taken on slave ships, anyone who collectively went through a famine etc just didn't want life enough, if only they'd tried harder. Perhaps send some books about this to the suffering millions of people. Congratulations, you've cured infertility. Strange how these things are weighted towards the privileged to start with.
Realistic goal setting, planning, focus and putting the work in, helps make things happen. Re relationships, if you open yourself up to the idea, then it's more likely to happen. Some get things through luck.

I could not agree with you more @Ponoka7 . Those poor people in Gaza are clearly not manifesting hard enough.

That reminds me that I listened to an episode of a psychology podcast that was all about common myths. It included visualisation/manifesting. It was probably the podcast that Professor Richard Wiseman does.

Visualising the end goal eg winning a race, getting the job you wanted, getting great exam results etc actually makes you less likely to achieve that goal.

But if you think of your goal and then visualise the steps that you need to carry out in order to achieve that goal, then that can be a successful strategy.

That's very cool! How interesting that just focusing on the end result actually doesn't get you a win necessarily. It makes more sense that you'd need to break it down, which is really what you'd do if you weren't visualising. More like preparing in small stages.

It depends. Visualising you're going to win the race you're preparing for, or imagining you've got the job when you're going for interview - yes that works. Visualising a happy life when you have anything but, and trusting in the universe to provide (?!) Not so much.

I think it does in as much as someone who is 'manifesting' something often spends time and energy thinking about it, and this includes pondering how to get there. Having the mindset of I'm going to do this rather than I can never ever achieve that also helps in having the confidence in taking up opportunities etc.i don't believe starting at an image of what you want on a piece of paper magically leads to anything, but yes I do think someone focusing energy on thinking about achieving something helps.

Yes l definitely believe in manifesting,

I was longing for something to come about. It was 45 years overdue.
Suddenly it happened after much manifesting usually just before sleep.
I did nothing but the event came to me in a most obscure way.
Happy days.

Maybe we need to do it on the night of a full moon or something, not quite sure of the rules 🤣

You might be onto something there

I've done the same with Henry Cavill but alas he has yet to arrive at my door.

Ah, that's my fault. I've been manifesting the same thing. He's probably confused which direction he should sweep.

How about you manifest Monday through Wednesday, and I'll manifest Thursday through Saturday, then we can give him a break on Sundays?

If you don’t believe in manifesting though by the rules, you wouldn’t manifest 🤣

And if you stick to the rules all you'll manifest is a serious mental illness 🤓

m00ngirl · 19/08/2024 20:21

User623 · 19/08/2024 20:16

I think it's dangerous and can cause serious mental health issues in those prone to them (such as OCD, psychosis and delusions)

Wow. A comment on how victim culture increasingly pathologises positivity, aspiration and achievement.

Thinking positively to help manifest carefully crafted personal goals is not in any remote sense "dangerous".

WoopsLiza · 19/08/2024 20:19

I think it's the wedge end of a very gross, blame-the-victim mentality, and it's no surprise it has been formetnted in the most individualistic and capitalist societies on the planet.

If your lives aren't what you want them to be, I totally understand. If you wish you were more in control of them, I totally understand. But I think it is the grossest form of gaslighting that someone has persuaded you it's your fault and not the result of societal and economic factors disabling you.

By all means determine that you and going to approach things with a positive mental attitude and try to focus in your lives on the things you actually feel are worth working towards. I really hope that you get them and I also believe you deserve them. I just also believe that even shit people deserve nice lives and if we were more up for facing that, more people could have nicer lives and as a result might have positive mental attitudes.

It is a form of delusion borne out of traumatic disappointment to believe you got a nice life because you had the right thoughts in your head. It will haunt you even if you do actually achieve the things you want.

Been manifesting Gérard Butler sweeping me off my feet for years, hasn't happened yet, still hoping though.
