To suggest a male curfew one night a week

when women can walk free in the streets without fear?

Yes, violence still happens in homes and behind closed doors but what a powerful message it would send.

I'd say every night but let's start with one.

Who is going to police this ridiculous idea?
seeing as the police won’t be able to.
what age do you think it should start at?

What will be the punishment for breaking this little curfew?

SoupDragon · 19/08/2024 19:24

BargingOnBy · 19/08/2024 18:44

That is how a lot of women have to live at the moment.

Interested in whether you are male or female @StoneHenge85 to post such an offensive thing?

Why is it offensive to suggest the OP stays at home but not offensive to say that all men must stay at home?

InsensibleMe · 19/08/2024 19:24

There are many men that belief some ardent feminists are bat-shit crazy. Hard to believe, isn’t it?

nocoolnamesleft · 19/08/2024 18:56

Pity it's only a thought experiment, and not realistic. Because it would feel amazing.

No male paramedics out? No male workers anywhere?

What's amazing about it?

tuvamoodyson · 19/08/2024 19:21

Happily, I’m not under curfew, nor have I ever been.

you understand that all women are aleeway effectively under curfew every night, because of the few men?

Well they aren't. Hyperbole like that does nothing to help decrease VAWG.

FreedomDogs · 19/08/2024 19:23

Silly silly op hasn't thought it through

Just keeps coming back with 'anyone else got a better idea'

Silly silly OP thinks everyone works 9-5 and only goes out in the evening for leisure, and hasn't thought through how much of society's functioning depends on a workforce doing shiftwork I suspect

Swisscave · 19/08/2024 19:23

Males (sex at birth) aged 16 to 25, a curfew between 8pm-5am. Exceptions for those that work during these times, which a licence could be given. Exceptions also include medical emergencies.

Those over 25-55 must gain a licence to be able to go out at night. A test to be passed to gain the licence. You must carry your licence in public if you are out. Points taken off for bad behaviour in public. Eg, drunk and disorderly. 12 points and you have your licence revoked.

No licence needed for those 55+

Sounds horrific but you can bet your bottom dollar that crime would fall, the streets and roads would be safer and women could venture out more at night.

Againname · 19/08/2024 19:22

you are ok with men being violent against men?

Poorly funded, ineffective, and insufficient public services cause and increase the the breakdown in society and community safety and cohesion, and crime goes up. Affecting both women and men.

Tackling this (by doing the things I listed in my previous post) would reduce VAWG both from strangers and in the home, but also male violence against men.

I'm not sure what the difference is between this and any other form of hate speech is and I hope the people on here who are obviously radicalised are only representative of people hiding behind a screen and not the wider public.

This.

bingobanjo · 19/08/2024 18:17

All those saying it’s unfair to punish all men for the actions of a few… you understand that all women are aleeway effectively under curfew every night, because of the few men?

I haven’t been outside alone at night since I was a teenager (presuming myself invincible)

Happily, I’m not under curfew, nor have I ever been.

How would my son get to work?

Silly silly op hasn't thought it through

Accident

FiddlyDiddlyDee · 19/08/2024 19:19

Rosscameasdoody · 19/08/2024 19:17

Of course it is about all men.

Funny how sweeping generalisations are frowned upon. Except when it comes to men.

Men aren't human apparently

I would like cars to be banned one day a week so I can head out without fear of being run over

Which impacts all those disabled people who need to use their cars for work, leisure etc, and have no alternative. Nothing is without consequence.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 19/08/2024 19:18

BargingOnBy · 19/08/2024 19:09

Exactly. The likelihood of being attacked might be fairly low but the consequences are usually devastating and life-changing.

Just like the liklihood of being hit by a car is low but the consequences being life changing and devastating?

Or your house catching fire?

Or you slipping on ice?

Or playing sport?

Of we judge risk ONLY by the consequences then we wouldn't do anything

FiddlyDiddlyDee · 19/08/2024 19:18

GoadyMcBigot · 19/08/2024 19:12

Well I’m the mother of two sons (and no daughters) and I think the concept and discussion is needed

yes I know that NAMALT but ONLY men commit that kind of crime against women (stalking, raping, stabbing, abusing, murdering etc)

it should be all the NAMALTS that are leading the charge against the men that are. But they are not, it’s up to us women to raise the issue.

just to clarify you're saying no woman has:

"committed that kind of crime against a woman (stalking, raping, stabbing, abusing, murdering etc)"

?

pinkfleece · 19/08/2024 19:18

twojumps · 19/08/2024 17:50

It isn't bait, actually. I'm serious. I'd like to walk at night without fear. For my DDs to go out without fear.

Something has to change. It would be a gesture and wake up call.

What do we do, nothing?

I walk all the time without fear.

tuvamoodyson · 19/08/2024 19:17

ExtraOnions · 19/08/2024 17:58

Violent Criminals are mostly men, as are sexual criminals, drug dealers, gang members, thieves, dangerous drivers etc etc etc.

Men seem to be in no hurray to solve the problems caused by thier sex - all you get is a load of wet “It’s not all men” apologists.

Men need to own the behaviour of thier sex, and acknowledge that they are part of the problem.

“but my son’s not like that” .. in front of you maybe, get him with his mates, drunk, or worse .. then see how it is.

I think a male curfew would be blissful

But it isn’t all men! Were apologists because we disagree with men having a curfew??

Rosscameasdoody · 19/08/2024 19:17

noworklifebalance · 19/08/2024 17:59

Ha! I knew there would a string of NAMALT and the predictable “what about my son”
(and I say this as a mother of a lovely son, sister of a lovely brother and wife of a lovely husband).
Of course it is about all men.

Of course it is about all men.

Funny how sweeping generalisations are frowned upon. Except when it comes to men.

Want to work out exactly what you’re trying to say and have another go? :-)

Why would she want to do that when her post was perfectly clear? 😳

DonnaDonna0 · 19/08/2024 19:14

😂😂😂 Is this just click bait?
What a ludicrous idea, it wouldn’t be followed by the very ones you need saved from, impossible to police and you might as well wander round with a big sign saying “take me, no one to stop you.”

FiddlyDiddlyDee · 19/08/2024 19:14

Newbutoldfather · 19/08/2024 18:59

How about if you changed ‘men’ to a particular ethnicity based on percentage convicted of violent crime? How would that thread go?

We have a really fundamental and, I believe, valid concept that everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty, as individuals.

Punishments due to belonging to a certain class or group are quite common in some parts of the world. I believe Hitler tried one based on his mistaken beliefs about people like me (I think curfews were involved in the beginning).

Even as a thought experiment, this is pretty vile.

I'm not sure what the difference is between this and any other form of hate speech is and I hope the people on here who are obviously radicalised are only representative of people hiding behind a screen and not the wider public.

To their new job mending the roads which they had to be drafted into to make up for the shortfall of labour one night a week.

Want to work out exactly what you’re trying to say and have another go? :-)
